Chapter 2: Figuring it out

Chapter Text

Chapter 2

–Who are you?

Cale looked around and panicked while trying to identify where the voice was coming from.

“I should be the one asking that question, where the fuck are you hiding?!” It creeped him out how clearly he could hear the voice as if he was talking right into his mind.

‘Could it be some sort of magic? But isn't this a high-grade level of magic? For someone to be able to do this they at least have to be close to the level of an archmage if not a dragon. He could also be invisible, but I'm sure he wasn't whispering and it didn't seem to be coming from either side of me. His thoughts were forming all sorts of theories trying to figure out what was happening.

–Didn’t you cause this?

Hearing the genuine confusion in the tone of the voice Cale’s theories stopped. Now he was confused too.

“What the fuck do you mean I caused this? How the fuck am I supposed to do that? I don't have a single drop of mana!” Cale had already decided to take the theory of this being magic as the truth because how else could this even happen if neither of them knew what the fuck was happening?

‘Could a mage even act as a third party to do this? Is the owner of the voice lying?’

***

“mana?”

Kim Rok Soo was starting to have a bad feeling about this. ‘Maybe I should stop reading stories for a little while..’

***

–Forget that. You really don't know what the reason for this then?

The voice’s confusion towards mana didn't skip away from Cale as he became more lost about who this person is. “If it's the reason for it then obviously it's magic? Are you an idiot? Since you obviously don't seem to be in the same room as me then it has to be magic similar to what’s used for video communication devices, the question should be who is doing it?”

Cale's last question was meant to be sarcastic as he was hinting that the owner’s voice was the reason, although he was kind of hesitant about his conclusion of who the perpetrator is now.

***

“For fuck’s sake… haah…”

Kim Rok Soo cursed. It was slowly becoming clearer the more the other person talked of the familiar terms he was sure he had read about last night, he still refused to believe it.

“Haah, I don't know who caused this so just tell me, what's your name?” he decided to just ignore his crazy conclusion he came up with knowing that his conclusions were almost always right.

There was a pause from the voice on the other side before he replied to Rok Soo's question.

–...Cale henituse.

And there it was. The sliver of hope that his conclusion was wrong died the moment he heard the name.

Kim Rok Soo put his head in his hands and closed his eyes, sighing once again. ‘Is this what I get for resting for one night? It had to be Cale Henituse too?’

“I just want to confirm something so-” Cale had cut him off.

–I told you my name so what is yours? Or would you rather I continue calling you an idiot you clueless bastard?

He held back another sigh. “It's Kim Rok Soo.”

–What the hell is up with your weird ass name? I'll just call you old man since you sound like it.

Kim Rok Soo was fighting the urge to curse Cale remembering that there’s no such thing as Korean names where Cale is and the fact that he most likely doesn't know Choi Han’s name as a minor villain. “I'm not that old.”

–You just proved my point, you sound like an old man.

Kim Rok Soo couldn't hold back anymore. “Could you just get back to the point you little brat? I really don't want to be stuck hearing your voice for the rest of my day.”

***

Although Cale was having fun teasing the old man he was confused about a lot of things this Kim rok soo was talking about, he wanted to ask about many things–like why the hell he didn't react to his name at all despite everyone in the Roan kingdom knowing, at the very least, the fact that the henituse county has a trashy son.

Which brings him to the other confusing point. Even while hearing the name of Henituse he didn't change his way of speaking at all. Was it because he was a noble too? But nobles never talked as rudely as him. Unless he was also the problematic son of a noble? But as far as he knows no one in the Roan Kingdom is like that. Then could it be that he wasn't in the Roan kingdom? If not, how could a mage do this between two people that far apart?

Cale’s thoughts and questions were running all around his head and he had a headache already so he did the only thing he could think of and started annoying Kim Rok Soo.

He didn't like this situation at all, it was too random, too sudden, combined with the news of Ron and Beacrox leaving all he could think of was to get away from this mess of a situation which was the only way left to do so was to ignore it at that point.

So he continued to annoy Kim Rok Soo. “Well if you didn't even know what a mana is, how the hell are you supposed to figure it out?”

–Then mind telling me what a phone is? Or maybe what a computer is, you stupid brat?

“What the fuck is that?” Kim Rok Soo was obviously not going to make it easy for him to ignore his questions again so he resigned to his fate and finally decided to actually talk about the situation with Rok Soo.

–Thought so. I don't think this is as simple as a mage being the cause of it, unless somehow I now have the ability to turn novels into a reality.

“What the fuck are you talking about you, crazy bastard? Why are you talking about novels all of a sudden?” Cale was starting to wonder if he was talking with a lunatic, why was he mentioning novels now?

–I need to make sure of something first. Do you have a servant named Ron? Or a chef named Beacrox?

“Why are you mentioning them now?” Cale frowned, why would this stranger ask about them? Does he know something about why they left? ‘It is a little coincidental I could hear him right after I was told about it’

–So you do… Did you get beaten up yesterday?

“Are you mocking me right now?” Cale was starting to get annoyed, surely the mage that is causing this would have run out of mana by now, so what the fuck was happening?

–I think you may be from the book I read yesterday.

“What the fuck? You crazy bastard, what are you-” the crazy bastard cut him off.

–I’m assuming from your conversation with the one who woke you up that you already know of Ron and Beacrox leaving so the next thing that is related to you in the book is Basen Henituse leaving for the plaza or at least he was mentioned to be there so did he leave yet?

Kim Rok Soo had completely ignored Cale’s disbelief, Cale was starting to get fed up with this crazy bastard.

“Why the fuck would I believe you? Everything you mentioned can be easily found through connections and information gathering. How the fuck would you come up with such a stupid idea? Are you insane? A book of all things? I swear if I find out you're the reason for this I'm going to-”

He was cut off again as Kim Rok Soo didn't want to hear his complaining.

–Well, it’s even more insane to me that this is happening, but all of the things you have said so far proved it. There's no such thing as magic where I am, the way you speak is not a language that exists either. I don't know how I understand you but I'm sure of it.

“That proves nothing to me but your complete ignorance! And who’s to say you’re not lying?”

–You don't know what a phone is, that's something everyone has. Forget about objects, do you have any idea about the apocalypse?

“What the fuck are you talking about?!”

–Cale, focus on how my words sound, when I say ‘bastard’ am I really saying the same word you seem to like using so much?

Cale did find it weird but magic translating devices do exist but that still doesn't explain the situation unless it's a dragon doing this there’s no way for a mage to cast such unknown magic to connect them while also using translating magic.

But how could he possibly believe he’s talking to someone from another world right now or the possibility of him just being a character from a novel? It's absurd!

“What if it's a language I simply don't know?”

Cale knew that at his point he was just coming up with excuses to disprove this.

–Are you serious? Then what if a god decided he wanted to mess with you specifically?

“My question is way more realistic than a god wanting to mess with us to make us specifically hear each other don't you think?” Cale was saying it sarcastically but he knew with all the evidence Kim Rok Soo was spouting it's still a possibility.

–You’re completely ignoring all of our past conversation aren't you?. I don't like to repeat myself, what the fuck kind of explanation is there if you don't know about the apocalypse? Do you even know what Korea is? Or Europe? What about Asia or Africa?

“What if you're making up all of this shit up?”

–I’ll make you a better what if. What if a dragon randomly decided to connect you to a random person trying to trick you that they are in another world for absolutely no fucking reason?

Kim Rok Soo was getting tired of Cale trying to avoid an existential crisis.

Cale finally gave up. “...you’re taking this way too calmly.”

–So what? It may be unbelievable for you but I have already experienced an apocalypse. People also said it was impossible, do you think the existence of other worlds or gods is any different to me?

“Of course gods exist, how else would there be holy artifacts and saints would get their powers?

–We don't have that here.

“Right of course you don't because other worlds exist how could that fucking be weird right?” he was going to go crazy what the fuck did he do for whatever god out there put him in this position?

Cale laid down giving up on staying awake because he was not about to face whatever bullshit this–apparently–other worlder is going to say.

“Just stay quiet, I'm going to sleep.”

–Before you do, I just want to check if the book I have is about your past or future.

And of course this bastard of an alien would not let him forget he has a book about his world–though he couldn’t say he wasn't curious to know what’s in it.

“Who’s the main character anyway?”

–Choi Han, the one who beat you up.

Cale wanted to be shocked or annoyed that it was that bastard who was the protagonist but too many shocking things happened for him to care so he just sighed “So all it says about me is that moment then?”

–I don't know about you specifically but it does mention your family two more times, it's not a completed series yet and the last book of the five ended in a cliff hanger to an upcoming war in the Henituse County against the north.

Cale jumped up from his lying position violently fast, his hands were squeezing his cover. His open wound started bleeding again at the violent movement but he couldn't care less about the pain even if he tried.

At that same moment just as he was about to yell at Kim Rok Soo to explain, a knock at the door was heard then the door opened to reveal Hans and the physician.

In that split second Cale’s horrified expression turned into a glare directed at Hans.

“Who the fuck told you to bring the physician?!” Cale screamed at Hans which did not help the bleeding that was becoming increasingly obvious through the already soaked bandages considering that fresh blood was mixing with the dried blood causing it to be darker around the wound.

Despite Cale's screaming, Hans went in with the physician making basen–who was walking behind them–to appear to Cale.

“Hyung you’re bleeding, please just let the physician pour the healing potion now!” Basen was frustrated. No matter how stubborn his brother is, how could his brother still try to push away someone who is trying to lessen his pain? It was pure stupidity.

“Get this shit over with.” Cale, seeing Basen enter, had decided to let the physician do his work.

He definitely still wasn't happy about it since he couldn't ask Kim Rok Soo about what the fuck he meant but for now he would stay still for just a couple of minutes just to lessen the pain he was in.

–Ah that's why you've been awfully quiet, what a cliche entrance. Being interrupted in an important conversation I mean.

Cale glared at the wall while the physician was working with the bandages. ‘You fucking stupid crazy lunatic bastard’ since he couldn't reply to Rok soo so he resorted to cursing him in his thoughts.

The physician finally could get close to cale to remove the bandages but then–after seeing the wound– he put the healing potion he brought with him down on the table beside the bed.

“I don't think it's a good idea to pour it on the wound right now. Healing potions shouldn't be poured on an open wound that is infected and the effectiveness also depends on how healthy you are-”

Cale didn't let the physician continue. “Do what you can do and shut the fuck up then.”

The physician held back a sigh as he disinfected the wound and wrapped it up. “Please don't drink alcohol for at least a day and eat a full nutritious meal for the healing potion I will pour later today to be effective.”

“Just fuck off now.”

The physician could only hope Cale actually listened to what he said and went out of the room with Hans leaving Basen to be the only one left, Cale looked at him.

“Why are you still here?”

“Hyung, please, take care of yourself.” Basen was saying this out of worry. No matter how stubborn Cale acted or how others would call Cale rude, Basen still held the image of a younger and kinder Cale in his memories one that had said to him words he couldn't possibly forget.

He hoped that one day he could see Cale act the same way as before so he could be able to spend more time with his brother. But for now, as long as Cale is asking for his own space he will give it to him. Basen hesitantly went out of the room leaving Cale to be alone again.

Cale waited for a bit just to make sure Basen wouldn't hear him before he started cursing Rok soo out loud. “You crazy mother fucking bastard, what the fuck do you mean there will be a fucking war, explain yourself how do you even have that book? Are you even sure about the authenticity of it?”

–Calm down, nothing happened yet so you have a chance to save yourself. There will be a war against the north, Clopeh Sekka declares the war before he arrives with wyverns from the forest of darkness-

Before Rok soo could complete the explanation, Cale cuts him off. “Wyverns? What the fuck do you mean there’s wyverns?!” his voice seemed panicked “When is this going to happen?!”

–Hm, if Choi Han had just beaten you up yesterday then about 2 years maybe a little more is left.

“How are we supposed to fight off wyverns?! How are we going to go to war when we aren't ready? 2 years isn't enough to get ready for war against wyverns! Why did it have to be the forest of darkness near our county! How am I even supposed to warn the crown about this? No, who am I kidding? If I do, I'll just get arrested for trying to incite a war!”

Cale wasn't taking a single breath between words or sentences, so Kim Rok Soo sighed and decided to help him before he faints while trying to solve a war in a single breath.

–You’re going to solve nothing by panicking. Breathe first then think of how to solve this, you can't think without breathing.

“Easy for you to fucking say! It's not your damn family that's in danger of war!”

–I know that you're worried about your family but screaming at me is not going to solve this either. Calm yourself so we can think of a solution for you.

Kim Rok soo really didn't want to be involved but he also didn't want to be stuck hearing an 18-year-old kid faint while panicking and screaming either.

Cale took a deep breath trying to get himself to think rationally as Kim Rok Soo said, but his heart was still beating like he had run a mile while he was trying to keep his breathing steady.

“Just how much bullshit can go wrong in one fucking day and night, I’m gonna go crazy at this rate.”

–Are you sure you haven't already?

Cale’s eye twitched “I swear if you don't shut the fuck up I’m going to find a way to send that clopeh sekka motherfucker to you.”

And that successfully shut Kim Rok Soo up for just a little longer so Cale took this chance to calm down.

Notes:

Done. I’m hoping for another try at a stable uploading schedule, for now it seems to be going great especially considering the fact that this is a rewrite and the new ideas I have for this have been tormenting me for the fact I'm not even close to them. I want to say though I'm sorry for anyone who spent such a long time following the past one and waiting for chapters only to be disappointed at the fact that it was rewritten. I hope you enjoy this more for now.
