No, We Should Probably Talk About It

Chapter Text

Finn heads out to check on Leona and Phoebe outside.

“What exactly are you two doing out here? She’s too young to learn how much of a donk I was when I was a teenager,” Finn asks half joking.

“Nah I planning on doing that when she’s a teenager. Give her some ammo when she’s slamming the door in your face,” Phoebe says absolutely not joking, “right now I’m teaching her the power of free style rap. Come on Leona show your dad what you got.”

Phoebe starts beatboxing.

“My name is Leona and I’m her to own ya. My hair is big and-HI AUNT BONNIE!!!” She stops mid bar to frantically wave at Bonnie.

“Hello sweetie, you’re quite the poet,” she lightly applauds.

“I’m NOT a poet Aunt Bonnie. I’m free style rapper!” She hits a pose Finn’s sure she got from Phoebe.

Bonnie squats down to her level, “you’re right and you’re totally hardcore,” gives her a big goofy grin Bonnie’s sure she got from Finn. “Hey birthday girl? Any chance you can give me and your dad a moment to talk?”

“I’m kinda ‘not allowed in the house’ Bonnie, remember that?” Phoebe says an obviously annoyance in her voice.

“Oh right, sorry about that,” plan b, she turns to Finn, “down for a walk around the cave?”

“Sure,” he gives Leona a rub on the head for good luck, “be back in a second kid.”

They walk in silence for a bit. Tuning into the quiet drips of water falling from the stalactites. He takes a sip from his drink.

”It’s some weird fermented drink Huntress gets from Wizard city. Good for the gut or something like that,” he tells her.

“I quit after we adopted Leona.” He says seeming proud of himself.

He should be. Glob he’s so tall. When did he get so tall.

“Did you want to try it? There’s not really a lot left,” She takes it and finishes it off.

“Swapping spit? Ten years ago you would’ve passed out at the thought,” she teases.

“Oh glob don’t remind me.”

“Hey it was cute!“

“And for the record I’d be more like 20. Huntress and I were mostly on when I was 22. Not to mention I figured out I was barking up the wrong tree by 17.”

“17? Marcy and I got back together when you were 16 after the whole vampire incident?”

“Yeah took me a while to notice. I was going through my own stuff.”

“True dat.”

“So what did you want to talk about?”

“I don’t know,” she reflects on it, “nothing really honestly. I just felt like I haven’t had a moment with you in a while.”

“Are you happy?” He asks. It’s abrupt.

“What do you mean?”

“Just in general. With stepping down? With life?”

“I am. It doesn’t feel real most days. Ive spent most of my life taking care of something I didn’t realize it was an option to stop. I don’t realize how tired I get until someone makes me stop,” she pauses, “I can’t lie. I get a little bored though.”

“How’s Marcy’s doing living with two retirees?”

She gives him a little shove, “Hey!”

“Are you? Happy? With life in general?” She asks him.

“I am. I really am. The happiest I’ve been in years,” he says. She can’t but feel a wave or something over her. Pride? Relief?

“I’ve been meaning to say something to you. Apologize for something. It wasn’t-I hope-I hope you didn’t think. I have too much to lose too many people love me. I’m sorry it took me so long to realize that.”

“I won’t hold it against you. But thank you for saying that.”

“When I was coming to, I got this weird vision of another version of me and she helped me come to my senses.”

“Fionna?”

“Yeah I think it was her.”

“She is three for three with you, Simon, and Huntress.”

“She must really have it together,” Finn says, “good to know at least one Finn does.”

“Finns a magical breed.”

“And thank you for hosting.”

“I mean Huntress practically begged.”

“So uh, in the name of complete honesty, Huntress actually thought it would be good for to host so you’d have something to do,” Finn says really fast, “Marceline mentioned you may possibly need a hobby.”

“FINN!”

“I’m sorry please don’t be mad!”

“I guess it’s a taste of my own medicine,” she says was a laugh, “but don’t do it to me again,” she adds, dead serious.

“I promise Peebs,” Finn says crossing over his heart.

“The worse part of it is,” Bonnie says, “she’s right I actually had a lot of fun doing it.” Maybe she can make something out of this. The structure seemed to be good for her.

“We should head back in. I heard something about a berry cake,” he says turning around.

“Oh it’s going to knock your socks off.”

They headed back towards the house together.

Notes:

And there she is

Anyway….you know I was on the fence about this chapter as long as one person likes it :o) whatever man.

Finn and Princess bubblegum….my special guys…..

Notes:

Leona is from my first fanfic. I dig the idea of these two adopting or fostering. And I know the sacred text say his kids would be Bonnie and Jay but I’m flying this plane.

I know people usually go for plant names but Huntress is well a Huntress and humans have their animal hats so why not an animal name.

I was lowkey nervous posting fanfic. Girl no one has ever died writing fanfic.
