Chapter Text
It now marks a week since you just so happened to hug berdly after letting him walk you home. You sigh as you get out of bed and turn off your alarm. Still with no idea why you've come to terms with these weird feelings, you accept that.. maybe.. you like the little.. stupid.. ignorant.. blue bird.. anyway, you get dressed and leave the house early, trying to make it to school, since you walk there. On the way, you look up and see that it might rain. great. Since it's winter, its been raining and snowing non-stop for a while, and you know this, but you didn't bring a jacket. why?? because it would fuck up your totally awesome outfits!! duh.. since you know its gonna rain soon, you sprint to the school, getting inside and being out of breath. You put your bookbag in your locker and walk into class. Awesome! you're early. Since the day that you fell asleep, you've learned to sleep before class starts so you don't have to be around berdly any more than you have to, even though it's not as dreadful as before. Even if you don't want to hang out with berdly, or see him for that matter, you still find yourself staring at him occasionally.
Class finally starts and you're not as tired as you would have been about a week ago or so. You watch Kris come in late as Ms Alphys is talking about the group project. Berdly obviously already knew before the whole class announcement, and surprisingly, he hasn't said anything about it.. at least to you. You ignore whatever this feeling is and look up at Kris, who has now approached your desk.
"..do you have a partner for the group assignment?"
"uhm.. I think I do. I'm so sorry, Kris!"
They sigh and nod understandingly, walking over to berdly's desk. Are they seriously gonna ask everyone?
"nope.. before you even ask, I'm working with Y/n!! so don't even think about asking me to be your partner and let you drag down my grade."
berdly sneered and let out a small snicker. Kris walked away and over to Noelle, who told them that catti and her were working together. Kris goes around asking the class, but you tune it out, because you're slightly shocked that berdly just.. assumed that you two were working together! your face flushes and you put your head down. thank goodness there's already such a scene in class, so no one noticed your embarrassing actions.. The class goes on and you're focused, for the most part. you keep getting distracted by berdly, and it makes you want to rip out your hair!!! oh how you hate liking that stupid bird.. Ms Alphys realized there was no chalk, and asked Kris to go get some from the closet, and susie went too. they took a REALLY long time, impeding almost half of the day's lesson, so she ignored it and started class anyway. The rest of the class went on, but you still could hardly focus, no matter if you slept before class or not. It doesn't matter anyways because she was just talking about the group project, and you're sure that berdly will be able to explain it later... not like you want him to or anything!!!
The bell rings, and class is let out. you wonder about kris and susie for a little but, but they're probably just skipping class, why do you care? you jump out of your seat and go to your locker, getting your stuff into your bag. You get your bag and close your locker and see berdly on the other side of it. You jump up and let out a small scream. He steps back and chuckles, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Didn't mean to startle you.. just.. heh.."
he smiles that STUPID smile you just.. you hate that you like THAT about him too!! god!! why is he so cute?!?!?!? you smile back at him and let a little giggle slide past your 'too cool' facade. He blushes softly and looks away, his hands now in his pockets.
"well, i would like to ask if.. ahem.. we could go study.. this fine evening.. just.. just you and me??"
he turned back to you and smiled, that STUPID dorky smile that gets you every time.
"Y-yeah..!! yeah! uhm.. did you want to go to my house?"
he nodded and got his book bag from the ground. you two start walking out of school, the sky is incredibly dark and the floor is dry and almost icy. great. You two walk to your house, a constant conversation being held the entire time. as you two approach your front step, you slip on the slippery floor, and before you can even fall to the ground, someone catches you. You look behind you and... oh my god BERDLY caught you isn't that so sweet?!?! you get up and smile at him sweetly, bowing respectfully as a thank you before speaking. You open your mouth to thank him, with words this time, but before you could even say anything, he begins speaking before you. how rude..
"uh..i.. I'm sorry for.."
you put your hand on his face and begin to shooshpap him. he looks at you funnily for a second, but he giggles and blushes.
"why are you even trying to apologize?? you like.. helped me..! or.. yeah! helped me!"
you smile at him, imagining his arm around your waist and and...STOP!!!!!! you shake your head and take a step back
"well.. thank you for like... not letting me fall. it was very kind."
he shrugged and smirked smugly, trying to act nonchalant. you snicker and walk into your house, holding the door open for berdly as he also walks inside. you both walk up to your room and you sit on your bed. Berdly kinda just stands around awkwardly, one hand on his book bag strap and the other in his pocket.
"sit down!"
you pat the side next to you on your bed, and he walks over and sits down next to you. You're like blushing really hard right now, so you look away.
"uhm.. lets get started with studying!"
you walk over to your desk that your computer is at and you turn it on. while waiting for it to load, you get a chair from downstairs and set it next to your desk chair. you log into your computer and go onto PowerPoint to make the assignment
"could you get the notebooks? and you can sit here next to me."
you smile at him, your face warming up once again. he got the notebooks from his and your bags and sat in the chair next to yours, your knees touching. he began to bounce his leg up and down, almost like he was anxious, but he didn't seem very uncomfortable. you two begin studying, but apparently, neither of you can keep your eyes on the paper. And yet, you somehow get most of the work already done. By the time you both are already done with most of the work on the first day, it's night time, or just extremely dark outside. you check the clock, and its 7:46. Jeez louise!!
"I truly had such a splendid time with you, Y/n, but i think it is almost time for my departure."
he stands up and grabs his notebook from the desk, which now had doodles that you and him did while working on the assignment, and puts it in his bag. He then closes his bag and begins to walk to your bedroom door, but you stand up and call out.
"berdly..!!"
He turns around and sees you smiling, and he also smiles at you. You walk closer to him and wrap your arms around him, embracing him before he leaves. Why are you hugging him like you wont see him tomorrow? whatever, you dorks. He hugs you back, and nuzzles his face into your neck softly, trying not to peck you with his beak. you feel your heart freaking out, and another voice inside yelling at you for being such a weirdo and liking this ignorant stupid cocky bird, but he's not too bad.. you guys finally let go of each other, and you walk him to the front door, your hands grazing his wing hands things. you open the door and he steps outside into the freezing darkness.
"see you tomorrow, berdly."
you lean in closer, wanting to land just a small peck of a kiss onto his beak, but you're too much of a pussy to do so, so you just hug him again, and he hugs you back. the hug ends and you two wave at each other as he walks farther and farther into the dark, until you can't see his silhouette anymore.
