Ninjago City, 2019
A light green glow began to slowly emanate behind my eyelids. I groaned and the green glow dissipated a little bit. “Kakuzi,” Harumi murmured softly. Wait, Harumi?!!? We weren’t dead?!!? Or was this just a hallucination? I slowly opened my eyes and gasped. Harumi and I were surrounded by a light green ball-shaped energy. The debris around us had settled and while we were covered in dust, no debris had touched us.
Harumi stared at me as she hadn’t seen me before. Then her face lit up. “You really are the Green Ninja,” she whispered softly. “I’m glad you’re on our side.” I didn’t know what she had seen, but as the debris stopped shaking and crashing around us, the light green ball-shaped energy completely disappeared. I staggered back, more tired than I had been in my life. Harumi glanced at me concernedly. “Are you okay,” she asked. I signed that I was okay and we carefully made our way out into the street.
As we did, I signed, asking, “What did you see?” Harumi sighed. I waited, a little impatiently, for her answer. “You were dressed in a green gi. You had green eyes and you were smiling and calling me Rumi,” Harumi explained hastily. My eyes widened. It was like destiny was trying to tell her and me something. I shrugged the thought off and we continued to make our way out of the collapsed building.
As we came out of the collapsed building, people stared. They stared at our clothes, the dust in our hair. They began whispering and pointing at us. Harumi and I ignored them. Both of us were used to it and no longer cared about people’s opinion of us. Harumi and I stared at each other and I fidgeted uncomfortably. I wasn’t sure I wanted to be the Green Ninja. After all, the Green Ninja was a hero, and I was surely a villain. No one would want me to be a hero, that was for certain. Yet Harumi’s gaze told me that she wanted me to be a hero. That I was already a hero. To her, at least. I smiled. Perhaps I could be a hero. A hero to those who wouldn’t normally be wanted or saved. Not an ordinary hero, that’s for sure. A hero for villains.
