Chapter Text
whatever you do, don't think about how there's a horrible sense of sadness, when you look at your daughter, even three years after simon's death. when she laughs, you're still cursed to see simon each morning when she wakes up. her dark brown eyes, the simple head tilt she does like her father did.
not that he does it anymore. he doesn't do anything anymore. you don't even know if he's six feet under, because he was MIA. she's quieter than the other kids too, just like her father. your stomach rolls every time she asks for a photo of her "papa", every time she giggles and points that she and him have the same hair. of course they do, your daughter looks just like him.
price always comes whenever he can, which is more than soap and gaz, since he's not on missions as much. violet loves marshmallows, calls them "mashmellows", and however many times you try and get her to not eat sugar, price always has a bag of marshmallows.
she's gnawing on a big one right now as price looks at you, your eyes are misting up again, like they always do in times like these. you try and not meet his eyes, and start looking intently at the box of hot chocolate mix he bought.
"love." he says, touching your elbow, jolting you from your thoughts, "this is the brand gh- si loved on base."
you nod, this was the expensive one, but simon always splurged on it. an half finished box sat in your cupboards, until it went off. and then some more.
"i know." you say, choking on your breath, "i just..."
he pulls you in for a hug, "just try some, i'd imagine he wants you to enjoy it too."
you hug him back, tight. your hands shaking around his body, solid, like simon is not. could not be anymore. because he was gone from your life.
that night you and your daughter enjoy some hot chocolate with marshmallows. violet riley smiles as she gets a chocolate froth mustache, and price says it looks just like him, and takes a silly photo of the two together, before he wipes it off with a thumb. he sends it to the groupchat with him, soap and gaz...and you, because simon's phone is now your phone.
you know she'll be loved. even if her own father was not here anymore.
