Room 213

Chapter 2

Notes:

Here by popular demand - asylum date! Thanks for all the support for this fic!

Chapter Text

“When you said there was a break in, this was not what I was expecting.”

Wednesday raises an eyebrow. “And what were you expecting?”

“I don’t know…maybe a cracked window or something. Not a giant hole in the wall that goes up two stories!”

“It appears the suspect had explosives.”

“You don’t say,” Enid mutters. This date was already turning out to be the most eventful one of her life.

Wednesday walks up to the building and casually ducks under the yellow caution tape.

“What are you doing?” Enid hisses.

The seer looks genuinely confused at the question. “Going inside.”

“You can’t just enter a crime scene!”

The smirk on Wednesday’s lips is a crime in and of itself.

“Watch me.”

I am so fucked, Enid thinks as she too slips under the caution tape. “You’re going to be a terrible influence on me, aren’t you?”

“I do enjoy ruining reputations.” Wednesday deadpans, making her way into the crumbling building.

Enid snorts. “Like how you annihilated Bruno’s argument in Speech and Debate that one time?”

Wednesday hitches in her movements ever so slightly. “His argument that one has to have powers to be an outcast was baseless.”

“Oh I don’t disagree,” the blonde says quickly. “But it was entertaining to see you prove that and then some.”

“My goal was not entertainment.”

I bet your goal wasn’t to be ridiculously hot either, but here we are.

Enid shakes her head to hide her wandering thoughts. “Well, he still needed to be put in his place.”

The raven studies the wolf for a moment. “I thought he was part of your pack.”

“Ha, no. No he was never…it was never like that…” Enid’s eyebrows shoot up as a light goes off in her head. “Wait. Is that why you always glared at him like you were two seconds away from hanging him out the window by his mullet?”

“I look at everyone with that same disdain.” Wednesday deflects.

“...Not me.”

Wednesday inhales sharply and swiftly walks away. Suddenly desperate to escape the conversation. Enid just smiles knowingly and trails after her.

It’s chaos inside. Security and nurses rush around trying to find missing patients. Police swarm the parameter. Family members make anxious demands.

“Wait, did this just happen?” Enid asks wildly.

“What?? I thought you meant, like, there was a break in last night or something. Is it even safe to be here?”

“Define ‘safe’.”

Enid sighs and looks over at the dark-haired girl next to her. “You’re lucky you’re cute.”

Wednesday’s eyes snap over harshly. “I’m not.”

Enid smirks and leans closer, pointing at the raven’s cheeks. “You totally are. Especially when you blush like that.”

“I’m not blush-”

“Addams!”

Both girls jump apart. Neither quite sure when they got so close to begin with.

Wednesday turns to the person calling her with an annoyed scowl. “Sheriff.”

“You can’t be in here,” The sheriff insists.

“Are you really going to waste your time trying to remove me? Because we know how that ended for you last time.”

Enid gives the seer a confused look, but Wednesday only continues to glare down her opponent.

The sheriff sneers. “I should just arrest you right now.”

“But then who would solve your cases?” Wednesday shoots back.

Enid bites her lip to keep from laughing. The action causes the sheriff’s attention to turn toward her. “And who are you?”

“O-Oh I’m-I’m-”

“Enid Sinclair.” Wednesday cuts in. “She’s with me.”

Now Enid is the one blushing.

The sheriff’s eyes dart back and forth between them for a moment before he finally sighs. “Fine. Just don’t expect my team to drag you guys out of here if you get stuck somewhere.”

“Like we’d even want your help,” Wednesday mutters, already heading down the corridor.

Enid gives the sheriff a nervous smile before hurrying after the raven. “How do you know my last name?”

“We’ve lived across the hall from each other for over a year, haven’t we?”

“So you did know where I lived this whole time!”

The tips of the seer’s ears redden. “Perhaps.”

“Cute.”

The glare Enid receives only makes her smile grow larger. Besides, she wasn’t lying. The raven looked adorable in her black jeans and black long-sleeved shirt and black vest.

Wednesday walks into an open elevator and presses the lowest button.

“Uh, why are we going to the basement?” Enid asks nervously.

“Where would you go if you were a serial killer?”

“You know, surprisingly I’ve never thought about it before.”

“A pity.”

That damn smirk again. What Enid would do to kiss it off right about now.

The elevator door opens before she can do anything further about that thought. A figure stands on the other side.

“Wednesday?”

Enid is immediately on edge, claws digging into her palms.

“Tyler.” Wednesday greets the figure in a monotone voice. “What are you doing here?”

“Helping out my dad. It’s chaos in here. What about you?” The boy puts on his best charming smile. Enid barely holds back her gag of disgust.

“Doing your father’s job,” Wednesday mutters, pushing past the boy and out of the elevator.

“Hey.” Tyler catches her arm roughly.

Wednesday is about to break the boy’s hand, but she’s beaten to the punch. Literally.

“Don’t touch her!” Enid growls, yanking Tyler’s hand away and shoving him so hard that he stumbles into the far elevator wall.

Tyler looks up with a dazed and confused expression, as if only just realizing someone else was there. “Sinclair?”

“Galpin.” Enid growls.

Tyer holds up his hands in surrender. “I was just gonna ask Wednesday if she wanted to stop by the cafe sometime for a coffee.”

“She doesn’t.”

“Why don’t you let her answer for herself?” Tyler challenges, staring down the werewolf in front of him.

He’s not the only one. Wednesday is staring at Enid too. In a very different way.

“Right, Wednesday?” Tyler barks.

Wednesday’s stare of admiration at the wolf turns into a murderous glare at the boy. “No, she’s right, Tyler. I don’t want to go anywhere with you. Now or ever.”

“But you kept giving signals-”

Wednesday punches a button on the elevator and tugs Enid out.

“Hey!” Tyler lunges forward but is only met with closed metal doors as the elevator begins to ascend with him inside.

“Signals.” Wednesday scoffs. As if. Then she frowns when she realizes the blonde next to her is all but hyperventilating. “Enid, are you alright?”

The wolf’s eyes are wide as she looks at her hands. “Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry Wednesday!”

“...for what?”

“Attacking him!”

“That was hardly an attack.”

“Well either way I shouldn’t have! I mean, he’s right. I should’ve let you answer for yourself-”

“Enid.”

“And maybe you didn’t mind him touching you-”

“Enid.”

“And maybe you wanted to get coffee with him-”

“Enid!”

The wolf squeaks and finally falls silent.

“There is nothing to apologize for.”

Enid blinks. “O-Oh. Are you sure?”

“I’ve been trying to shake Galpin all semester. Perhaps he finally got the message this time. Though you’d think he would’ve gotten it when I laced his jacket with poison ivy.”

“That was you??”

Wednesday shrugs. Enid swoons.

“Besides,” the raven continues stiffly. “The interaction was…enlightening.”

Heat spreads across the blonde’s cheeks. “Oh…yeah…I suppose I was maybe a little…over aggressive.”

“An interesting way to describe jealousy,” Wednesday says bluntly. Dark lips twitch up ever so slightly with teasing.

Enid flushes even more scarlet than before, but she refuses to back down so easily. “Are you complaining?”

Brown eyes flash at the challenge. “No.”

“Hmm so then what was so enlightening?”

Wednesday’s mouth suddenly feels dry. She had underestimated her opponent. Enid wasn’t supposed to be able to read her this well, this fast.

The wolf takes a step closer, like a predator circling its prey.

Another sharp inhale from the seer. “Your werewolf strength is…intriguing.”

Wednesday swears she can see glistening canines in the wolf’s ensuing smirk. Perhaps one day those canines would kill her. Literally or figuratively. She wouldn’t mind either.

“Intriguing, huh?” Enid murmurs in a rough, low tone. Blue eyes piercing brown as the space between them continues to vanish.

Wednesday Addams never loses a staring contest. But her eyes flicker to red lips ever so briefly.

Then the power goes out.

“Shit!” Enid curses.

Wednesday just scowls at the mild inconvenience and pulls out her flashlight. She clicks it on, the dim light barely illuminating the dark hallways of the basement. The only noise is the creaking of cell doors that had just been unlocked. She starts heading down one of the hallways.

“Wednesday!”

The girl pauses and looks back. “Yes?”

“You’re actually walking toward the area that looks straight out of a horror movie??” Enid squeaks.

“Well we can’t exactly go back up the elevator, can we?”

“...Right. Shit! Do you think Tyler got stuck in there?”

Wednesday looks incredulous. “Does it matter?”

Yellow wolf eyes blink in the dark.

“Good point.”

Enid steps forward to continue to follow the seer down the dark hallway, walking as close to the girl as possible without actually touching her. Most of the cells seemed to be empty, but strange noises still echoed around them. This was by far the most terrifying date she had ever been on. Though she hadn’t really expected anything less.

Unlike the werewolf, Wednesday is unbothered by the dark. She explores curiously, seemingly oblivious to the potential danger they were in.

“No signs of the killer,” Wednesday sighs as they get close to the end of the hall.

“How…disappointing.” Enid manages, her eyes still darting around warily.

Wednesday glances at the wolf. “Come on, there’s stairs down there.”

“What? Are we leaving so soon?” Enid jokes, trying to calm her own nerves. “Right when it was getting good-AH!”

A strong hand yanks Enid’s arm and pulls her around the corner.

“What the-” The blonde looks wildly back at the spot where she was standing just seconds prior. She blinks, not fully believing what she’s looking at. “Is that a zombie??”

“Indeed.” Wednesday mutters. “Fascinating.”

Enid’s response is automatic. “You are so weird.”

It’s only then that Wednesday realizes she’s still gripping the wolf’s arm. She quickly lets it go, though doesn’t quite pull back all the way. “And yet, here you are.”

Enid swallows visibly from her place shoved up against the wall, heart rate stuttering in her chest. “Yeah…here I am.”

Suddenly the creepy asylum is a distant memory. Fading into the background until there’s only two people on earth. A wolf and a raven.

“Wends-” Enid leans in ever so slightly.

“Yes?” The seer whispers roughly, feeling frozen in place.

“I…” The wolf trails off, only leaning in closer.

The zombie pounds on the nearby wall.

Enid jumps. Wednesday sighs.

“Come on, let’s go.” The raven heads toward the stairwell doorway.

As soon as she touches it, her head snaps back.

“Wednesday!”

Enid lunges to catch the seer before she hits the ground. She grasps the girl’s petite frame tightly and slowly lowers them both down, Wednesday’s body still rigid in her hands.

“Wednesday!” Enid yells again in a panic, unsure what to do. She assumes the seer was having a vision, but she didn’t know they could be so violent. The girl was practically having a seizure.

It continues on for what seems to be an excruciating amount of time, though is perhaps only about 30 seconds. Enid absently grasps Wednesday’s cold hand tightly. “Hey, it’s okay-”

The seer’s head snaps back up, brown eyes wide. They only grow wider when she sees blue eyes staring back at her, belonging to the werewolf currently holding her up with devastating ease. Her entire body tenses automatically.

“I-I’m sorry!” Enid says quickly, lowering the seer gently to the ground and pulling away. “I didn’t want you to fall!”

“It’s fine,” Wednesday mutters, trying to regain her senses. She’s not sure if she’s more thrown off by her vision or the sight that greeted her afterward. The werewolf had looked so concerned, so caring. Something Wednesday detested in the eyes of even her own mother, but found herself chasing after in the eyes of Enid Sinclair.

“You were having a vision, weren’t you.” Enid states in an awestruck voice.

The seer nods. “It seems the serial killer was down here after all.”

“You saw him??”

“Yes. He was interested in the patient in cell 366. I’ll have to research later who that is.”

Enid nods and quickly scans the seer over for any injuries. “A-Are you okay? It looked…scary.”

“I’m fine,” Wednesday mumbles as she sits up, still somewhat embarrassed by it all. “My visions are just unpredictable. And at times…inconvenient.”

“What happens if someone isn’t there to catch you?” Enid asks worriedly.

The seer pauses, then shrugs.

“I’ll be there to catch you,” Enid mutters, mostly to herself. Then her eyes shoot up when she realizes she said the words out loud. She scratches the back of her neck nervously. “I mean…if you want.”

Wednesday doesn’t respond. Just continues to sit there on the ground and stare at the wolf kneeling next to her.

Enid panics at the silence, thinking she went too far. “I mean, not to presume I’d be there, or that you’d want me there, I just-”

“That is…” Wednesday searches for the right word. “Acceptable.”

The smile on the werewolf’s face is brighter than any moon. “Yeah?”

Wednesday is too enraptured to answer. So this is what her father was talking about.

Red emergency lights suddenly illuminate the basement.

Enid looks up nervously. “I can’t tell if that is good or bad.”

“Well I got the information I came here for. So we can take our leave.”

“And just when I was starting to like it here.” Enid smiles. She kinda means it this time too.

Wednesday bites her cheek, unused to this much distraction on a mission. In an effort to regain some semblance of control, she quickly stands up and heads into the stairwell. The werewolf hot on her heels.

About halfway up, an alarm starts to blare.

Enid jumps in surprise, automatically grasping the closest thing to her, which just happened to be Wednesday’s hand. It’s cold, yet incredibly comforting.

“Sorry,” the wolf mutters, going to pull away.

Wednesday doesn’t look over. But she does tighten her grip. “Let’s go.”

Enid can only blush in surprise as she lets the raven guide her by the hand back to the main floor of the asylum. It’s still absolute mayhem, and Enid fully expects the girl to drop her hand at the sight of other people. But instead Wednesday just continues to pull her through the crowd.

“I wasn’t snooping, dad, I was trapped in there!” A voice carries over the bustle.

“By who?” Sheriff Galpin asks.

“Addams and her psycho friend!” Tyler exclaims. Then he sees the two girls and points at them. “See?”

The sheriff raises an eyebrow at the Addams.

“Your son made unwanted contact with me,” Wednesday explains stoically. “Enid simply ensured it would not happen again.”

The sheriff sighs, knowing a lost argument when he sees one. “Just go back to the house, Tyler.”

The sheriff stumbles off to deal with the next mess.

“And by the way,” Wednesday says sharply, glaring at Tyler. “Enid is not my psycho friend.”

Enid flushes to her blonde roots, feeling overheated enough to melt into a puddle.

Tyler glances back and forth between the two girls and their interlocked hands. He sneers. “Whatever.”

He trudges off in the other direction in defeat.

“Good riddance,” Enid mutters.

Wednesday just tugs her out the nearest door and back into the light of day.

“Sooo,” Enid says, still giddy that the raven hadn’t dropped her hand yet. “If I’m not your psycho friend, then what am I?”

Wednesday doesn’t respond, but a hint of color appears on her pale cheeks, and her grip tightens ever so slightly. It’s all the answer Enid needs.

They walk for a while along the streets of town. The conversation is easy. Enid asking questions about the seer’s powers and adventures. Wednesday giving short but thoughtful responses, and even indulging in some of the wolf’s schoolyard gossip.

It isn’t until Wednesday is pulling open the door of a building that Enid realizes they had a destination all along. She looks up at the sign, then back at the seer.

“I did say you owed me a coffee.” Wednesday smirks ever so slightly and waltzes in, letting go of the wolf’s hand for the first time.

This girl will be the death of me. Enid shakes her head in happy disbelief and follows the raven inside.

“A large furraccino and large quad.” Wednesday tells the barista confidently.

“How do you know my coffee order??”

“You spilled it on me.”

Enid flushes, “Yeah, but that doesn’t exactly give it away.”

“The mountain of whipped cream on it does. Plus it was written on the cup.”

“...Right.”

When the barista comes back with their drinks, Wednesday slides a twenty dollar bill to her. “Keep the change.”

“Hey!” Enid interjects, going for her own wallet. “I’m the one that owes you the coffee!”

“Too late.”

The wolf glares at the raven as they sit in a booth. “Fine. But I’m paying next time.”

Wednesday raises an eyebrow. “Next time?”

“Y-Yeah.” Enid says in her most confident voice. “Next time. Though I can’t promise there will be an asylum involved.”

“How unfortunate.” Wednesday deadpans, but the glow in her eyes gives her away.

Enid grins in victory. “So, how did you end up at Northeastern?”

“I got expelled from Harvard.”

Enid chokes on her coffee. “What?? Before freshman year even began??”

Wednesday shrugs, “I disagreed with their fencing instructor.”

“And that got you expelled?”

“I strongly disagreed.”

Enid shakes her head in bafflement, not even sure she wants to know whatever misdemeanor the seer had committed. “So you just casually decided to go here instead?”

“I also disagreed with Yale’s Dean. And Brown’s literature chair.”

“Jesus. So what made Northeastern so tolerable then?”

“...My parents told me I had to stop turning down schools.”

Enid laughs heartily at that. “The great Wednesday Addams. Thwarted by her own parents.”

Wednesday’s eye twitches, though she can’t bring herself to be that annoyed, not when the blonde was smiling like that. “My mother is…difficult.”

“Ha. Well there’s something we have in common.” The wolf smiles wryly. “My mom told me multiple times not to apply here. She didn’t think I’d get in.”

Wednesday frowns deeply, already disliking the sound of this woman.

“Little does she know,” Enid continues, “I applied to a ton of east coast schools. Just so I could get as far away from San Francisco as possible. And I got in. So, joke’s on her.”

Wednesday observes how Enid reacts when talking about her mother. The scratching of her claws against her coffee cup. The tension in her shoulders. It makes Wednesday want to provide something she never provided…comfort.

“From what I’ve observed, there is no reason your mother should’ve thought anything to the contrary.”

Enid blinks. “You really think so?”

“Decisively.”

Enid is overcome by the sincerity in Wednesday’s tone. “You’re really sweet.”

“I’m not.”

“Agree to disagree.” The wolf says with a bright smile. “And for what it’s worth, I’m glad we both ended up here. I’m glad you committed those felonies to get kicked out of those other schools.”

“Who said anything about felonies?” Wednesday asks coyly.

Enid rolls her eyes. “You’re not as hard to read as you think.”

“...Maybe to you.” Wednesday mutters under her breath, confused and more than a little terrified that someone could understand her so easily. She honestly didn’t think it was possible.

Enid tilts her head with a knowing smirk.

Wednesday clears her throat and hurries the conversation along. “Why did you choose to room with Tanaka? You don’t seem the type to appreciate her proclivity for blood.”

“Yeah, I definitely don’t love that.” Enid wrinkles her nose. “But other than that, Yoko is great. She’s always there for me. Usually.”

“How awful.”

“Besides, rooming with her allowed me to meet a certain cute scary girl across the hall. So I’m not complaining.” Enid winks boldly at the seer.

Wednesday suddenly wishes they weren’t in such a public place. For reasons unknown. She takes a stiff sip of her coffee to maintain her control. “You mean someone whose room you think you can drunkenly barge into at 1am.”

Enid groans and rubs her face. “Yeah…not my finest moment. Thanks again for that by the way.”

“Stop doing that.”

“Thanking you?”

“Yes.”

“No.”

This damn wolf.

Enid smirks in victory yet again.

By the time they’ve finished their coffees, the shadows have grown long outside. When they step out, a light fall breeze rustles the air, causing the wolf to shiver involuntarily.

Wednesday shrugs off her black vest and holds it out.

Enid raises an eyebrow. “Wends-”

The seer’s eyes narrow in stubbornness.

“You just love giving me your clothes, don’t you?”

Wednesday doesn’t back down this time. “Are you complaining?”

“No.” Enid says softly, leaning in far closer than necessary to take the vest. She throws it over her black t-shirt. It’s surprisingly warm.

Wednesday can’t help the quick glance over she gives the wolf. She isn’t complaining about giving Enid her clothes either.

Of course, Enid notices the appraisal and smirks. She steps that much closer. Close enough to count the freckles on the raven’s nose.

“The next train leaves in ten minutes.” Wednesday mutters lowly, staring back into blue eyes.

“Okay,” Enid whispers, not looking at all like she actually registered the words. Her only focus is on dark lips that were agonizingly close.

It’s all Wednesday can do to wretch her gaze away. Breaking the moment. She starts walking back down the road. Heart hammering in her ears.

Enid’s face falls in slight disappointment, but she scampers after the seer all the same. They don’t hold hands again, but their finger tips brush all the way to the train station.

In far too short of an amount of time, the two college students find themselves back at their dorm, walking down their hallway.

They stand outside their doors awkwardly. Wednesday with her usual stiff, rigid posture. Enid fidgeting nervously with her hands.

“I had a really great time, Wednesday.” Enid says genuinely.

“So the asylum was enjoyable then?” The seer is half teasing, half serious. Despite everything, she wanted Enid to have liked the date.

Enid snorts. “I’m not sure I’d use that word. But it was definitely exciting. I’ll give you that. 10 out of 10 adventure.”

That’s a good enough rating in Wednesday’s book. She nods once, her lips curling up ever so slightly.

“Maybe…we can do this again some time?” Enid asks timidly, not even realizing she takes a step closer. “Like next weekend?”

“I thought we already established you still owe me a coffee.”

Enid grins at the roundabout acceptance. “That I do. And you better let me pay for it this time!”

“No promises.”

“Wednesday…”

The seer’s pulse skips. When had she backed up into her own door? When had the wolf gotten so close?

“Yes?” Wednesday’s voice is shaky, even to her own ears.

Enid glances back and forth between dark lips and dark eyes. She leans forward, stealing the breath from both of their lungs. Then she closes the gap and places her lips against Wednesday’s…cheek.

Okay, so maybe she panicked at the last second. Suddenly feeling unsure after all they’re interrupted moments throughout the day. She thinks Wednesday enjoyed the date as well, but she knows the girl was big on boundaries, and she didn’t want to push them too far.

Enid pulls back after a moment and gives the raven a shy smile. “See you, Wends.”

Wednesday only stares back with an unreadable expression.

The wolf just nods and turns around to go to her own room.

“Enid.”

The blonde turns back around. “Yeah? mmph-!”

Her back hits her door as Wednesday’s lips collide with her own. Apparently the seer didn’t have as many boundaries as she thought. She’s never been happier to be wrong.

Her hands fly up to cup Wednesday’s cheeks and return the kiss with equal fervor. The raven only responds by grabbing the collar of her own black vest and tugging the wolf even closer, deepening the kiss.

A growl escapes Enid’s throat when the seer’s tongue runs over her canines. Her claws come out inadvertently and lightly dig into the nape of Wednesday’s neck. She’s about to pull back and apologize, but Wednesday just presses closer, swallowing the apology with her lips.

“Wends-“ Enid pants after a moment. Not even sure what she’s saying. She’s cut off again by dark lips that tasted like coffee and danger and perfection.

Enid didn’t know it could feel like this.

Wednesday didn’t either.

She felt drunk. No, more than drunk. Completely out of control. Helpless in a way that would make Gomez Addams proud. As if the only truth in the world was the wolf’s lips against hers.

Thing was going to have a field day.

“Ew. Get a room.”

The two girls part as aggressively as they collided.

“Yoko!” Enid squeaks, not-so-subtly licking her lips.

The vampire just stands there, arms crossed, a giant smirk plastered on her face. “Guess all those embarrassing moments paid off, huh wolfie?”

Enid groans and glances at Wednesday who appears almost completely unbothered. You’d never know they were just making out against the door if it weren’t for the faint smear of lipstick on the seer’s upper lip.

“We were just…” Enid trails off in embarrassment.

Yoko snorts. “Just…?”

“Did you need something?” The blonde huffs.

“Uh, yeah. To get into my room.”

“O-Oh right.” Enid stutters, stepping away from the door she was blocking.

Yoko smirks and walks toward the room. “Don’t let me stop you. Carry on.”

If it’s possible, the wolf flushes even more. She takes a step into her room after the vampire.

Yoko turns with a frown. “What are you doing?”

“I-I was just…um…” Enid glances back at Wednesday. The girl is still maddeningly unreadable, standing there with a stoic, almost annoyed expression. “Going into my room?”

“Nah uh,” Yoko shakes her head. “Take your make out session elsewhere.”

“T-That wasn’t what we-”

“Divina will be here soon.”

“...Hypocrite.”

Yoko just smirks and shrugs. “You guys have a perfectly usable room across the hall.”

“But-”

“Bye, wolfie.” Yoko lightly shoves the blonde out of the room and closes the door. “I better not see you back here for a while!”

“Yoko!” Enid pounds on the door, then throws her hands up. “God, she is unbelievable!”

She frowns when she realizes Wednesday still hasn't said anything. Was she even still there? Enid turns around. Yep. Still there. As rigid as ever. Like an upright, beautiful cadaver.

“Um. Sorry about that,” Enid says sheepishly. “We don’t have to...I mean, what she said about making out…I mean…I can just go hang out in the common room.”

Wednesday continues to remain silent as she turns around and opens her own door. She walks into the room.

The wolf just continues to stand in the hallway.

“...Are you coming?”

Enid has never entered a room so fast.
