Chapter Text

On the final day of vacation, as the sun was slowly starting to set, Apollo was in the bathroom. He looked at himself in the mirror, taking a deep breath. He was planning on confessing to Klavier. His heart was racing, yet his eyes still had a determined look either way. He gripped the corners of the sink. Since 5 other people were here, he couldn’t do his chords of steel as loudly as he wished. So, he quietly said to himself, “You’re Apollo Justice, and you are doing fine.” Apollo exited the bathroom.

Apollo didn’t put on a big fancy outfit. He wore shorts that went just slightly above his knee, a white button up, and a pretty red sweater that had darker red, white, and gold accents. He closed his eyes, telling himself again, I can do this. He opened his eyes once more and went to the door of his and Klavier’s shared room. He knocked softly as he called out, “Klavier, can I come in?”

“Ja! You can come in, Herr Forehead!” Klavier replied back, his voice calm.

Apollo twisted the doorknob, opening the door. He walked in as his eyes landed on Klavier, who was sitting on the bed, brushing his hair out. Klavier had recently showered and had also blow-dried his hair. He perked up at seeing the short defense attorney. A smile danced on to his lips as he looked at Apollo. Klavier was in a purple, off-shoulder Gavinners sweater and some short pajama pants.

“Why aren’t you in your sleep clothes?” Klavier asked, as he tilted his head in curiosity.

Apollo took a deep breath in, he could do this, he could ask, “I wanted to take you to the beach to see the sunset, one last time,” Apollo paused. “Are you up for it?”

Klavier smiled and shrugged, “Why not? I’ll go put on meine Sandalen and meet you at the door.”

Klavier stood up as he walked out of the room. Apollo trailed behind him. He felt so damn excited, but also so damn nervous. So many “what if”s swirled in his head. He shook his head. Nothing bad could happen, the worse that would happen, would be that Klavier rejected him and they stayed friends.

Klavier put on his sandals, and Apollo did as well. Apollo held the door open for Klavier, “You first.” Klavier smiled, “Danke.” He walked to the porch, then held the door for Apollo. The brunette walked through the door. His hand moved to hold Klavier’s. He felt Klavier grab his hand, gently squeezing it. A faint blush made its way to Apollo’s cheeks. The walk to the beach was quiet, but not in a bad, uncomfortable way. It felt just right.

When the two made it there, the sun was half way down. They two sat on the sand, completely relaxed. No one else was there to watch them or stare. It was just the two of them. The only sounds heard was the water moving, birds chirping, and other sounds of nature. It was perfect.

Apollo’s heart raced as the sun glowed against the two. Klavier looked absolutely gorgeous. He kept staring as his eyes studied Klavier’s features. He loved his warm, tanned skin. He loved the freckles that adorned his body. He loved his long blonde hair that flowed in the wind. He loved Klavier’s blue eyes that looked just like the ocean. He loved everything about Klavier. As Klavier basked in the sun, he noticed Apollo staring. He looked Apollo with a sly smirk.

“Oh? Can Herr Forehead not take his eyes off of me?” Klavier spoke, his voice flirtatious.

Apollo’s face turned beet red, as he tried to think of a response. But, he just opened and closed his mouth, like a fish out of water. Klavier chuckled, his hand moving over to Apollo’s once more. Apollo became even more flustered. He felt so embarrassed. He was supposed to be confessing to Klavier, not have Klavier be a smug flirt!

“Klavier, I love you, will you be my boyfriend?!” Apollo blurted out, before covering his mouth.

Klavier stared back, blinking in shock. He was not expecting that, completely caught off guard. He turned red himself. He didn’t think Apollo liked him romantically, not like that was an issue. He liked Apollo in that way too.

After a moment, Klavier responded, “Ja. Of course, I would love to be your boyfriend, Apollo. If that is what you want, of course.”

Apollo was stunned, “Wait, wait, you like me back?! I didn’t even mean to confess to you like that! It- I- I’m your average dude! You’re- you’re you! You’re the Klavier Gavin! Why do you love me?!”

Klavier shook his head. He moved closer to Apollo, his ocean blue eyes staring into Apollo’s cameral brown eyes. His hands moved to Apollo’s cheek, his thumb rubbing his freckles. Apollo’s hand moved to Klavier’s waist. Their touches were soft, gentle, comforting, and caring. Apollo’s heart was racing, yet at the same time, he felt so relaxed.

“You are not average. You are unique. I love you for many reasons. I love how loud you are, how you aren’t afraid to speak the truth. I love your sense of justice in the courtroom. I love your freckles, your ever-so-slightly tanned skin, I love your horns. I love all of you. So please, be mine, if that is what you wish,” Klavier said, love filling his voice.

Was Apollo expecting that? No. Did that make him fall harder for Klavier? Oh, absolutely. He pulled Klavier into a kiss. It was soft, gentle, and sweet. Klavier’s lips tasted like cherry. Apollo’s lips tasted like vanilla. They kissed for a few moments, before they had to pull back. Apollo’s cheeks were flushed. Klavier’s heart was racing. His mind was racing, even if he had partially been expecting the kiss. Apollo felt so, so many emotions. He had never kissed anyone, other than his best friend, Clay, a few times back in high-school. He wasn’t even expecting Klavier to like him back, especially because he just blurted out that he loved Klavier.

The two stayed on the beach until they realized it was getting late. They talked, they laughed, they collected seashells until they decided to go back. They walked to the beach house, hand in hand. The moonlight shined onto them as Apollo opened the door. Klavier walked in first, holding the door for Apollo next. The brunette walked into the house. He took off his sandals, and dusted some sand off of him. He handed Klavier the seashells they collected together, which were in a baggie.

It seemed like everyone was asleep. “How late is it?” Klavier asked, his voice not above a whisper. He didn’t want to accidentally wake up someone. Apollo grabbed his phone, “10:35PM.” Klavier looked shocked that they were out that late. No wonder everyone was asleep…

Apollo walked to their room, Klavier followed. Apollo grabbed his night clothes, and went to the bathroom to change. Klavier laid on their bed, cuddling up into the sheets. He looked like a giddy little kid, replaying the kiss over and over in his head. Apollo was his boyfriend. He had the love of his life, who loved him back. He was pretty sure this was the most happiness he had ever felt since the… incidents. Klavier was so lost in his head, he didn’t even notice Apollo came back.

Apollo walked in on Klavier lying down, giggling and looking like a high-school girl madly in love. He chuckled softly, as he cleared his throat to get Klavier’s attention. Klavier’s head perked up at the sound. He felt embarrassed being caught like this but at the same time… he was too overjoyed to fully care. Apollo was now in one of Klavier’s hoodie, and some short pajama pants. His horns were down, covering his forehead slightly. He smiled as he sat down on the bed, putting the sheets on himself. He laid down and stroked Klavier’s hair, smiling. The two fell asleep, snuggled together, again.

Eventually, Apollo and Klavier had to get up to pack (thanks to Mr. Edgeworth walking in and ordering them to get up). The two men talked to each other as they packed their items into their suitcases. Apollo didn’t notice, but Klavier snuck one of his hoodies into Apollo’s suitcase for him to keep. As the two talked, they decided that they would tell Mr. Wright, Mr. Edgeworth, and Trucy (plus, her friend) the news. They talked to each other about how they would tell them. Klavier, thankfully, had some experience with this. Apollo had no experience with this at all.

Once the two finished packing, they exited their room, moving their suitcases to the front door. Mr. Edgeworth’s luggage was already there. Mr. Wright could be heard in his room, packing up his own items. Trucy could be heard in her room, talking to her friend. Edgeworth was in the kitchen, packing up the few appliances that they had brought from home. Once Edgeworth finished with that, he came to the front door. He put down the bag of items next to the other suitcases. His gaze then turned to Klavier and Apollo, who were talking in hushed whispers. He cleared his throat, which grabbed the attention of the two men.

“Oh- hallo, Herr Edgeworth,” Klavier said.

Edgeworth’s eyes narrowed, getting straight to the point, “Where were you two last night? I heard someone leave the house around sunset, and I heard someone come back late at night.”

Apollo swallowed thickly, his eyes darting to Klavier. He was hoping Klavier could come up with an excuse on spot because Apollo was drawing a blank. He didn’t realize Miles had noticed their absence, then again; they were gone for more than 4 hours. His palms started to sweat, and his heart started to beat faster. Klavier seemed to think of something.

“Ah, we were just out on a nightly stroll... we’ll tell you more about it when Herr Wright and Fräulein Wright plus her friend are here, ja?” Klavier said smoothly, though Apollo knew he was lying.

Miles seemed to buy it, for now. He let out a small hum in acknowledgement. Klavier’s shoulders seemed to relax. Apollo let out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding in. Edgeworth walked away, probably going to help Trucy and Phoenix. Klavier looked at Apollo, a sly smirk on his face.

”You’re a mess without me, Herr Forehead,” Klavier teased, his eyes playful.

Apollo huffed, “I am not a mess without you.”

Klavier shook his head as he laughed, “Whatever you say, mein liebe.”

Apollo stuck his tongue out at the prosecutor, though his heart raced at the nickname. He didn’t know much German, but that sounded like an affectionate pet name. He internally made a reminder to look up what “mein liebe” meant. A smile crept up on his lips. He loved Klavier’s playful teasing, as much as it partially annoyed him.

Eventually, Phoenix, Trucy, and her friend finished up loading their items into their suitcases and luggages. Klavier forgot that he had told Miles that he would explain where him and Apollo were last night. Miles looked at Klavier, waiting for him to explain. When the blonde didn’t notice, he spoke up. “Klavier, you told me you would tell me where you and Apollo were last night when everyone came. They’re here now so, time to explain. I already told them to hurry up so you could tell us,” Edgeworth stated, his voice carrying a curious tone. Trucy seemed excited, almost as if she knew what happened. Her friend, Pearl, also had a smile on her face.

“Ach, I did say that, didn’t I?” Klavier replied, his voice embarrassed.

Miles nodded, “Yes, you did. So, explain.”

Apollo stared at Klavier; he completely forgot what they were supposed to say. Klavier looked at his boyfriend, sighing. He grabbed Apollo’s hand. They could do this. They had been through much worse together. Telling their friends that they were dating shouldn’t be that hard. Klavier took a deep breath first. Apollo was ready to follow his lead. He was trying very hard not to blurt it out, unlike what happened at the beach.

“We were just watching the sunset, at first,” Klavier paused. “Until Apollo decided to tell me something.”

Trucy’s grin seemed to widen. Mr. Wright seemed to catch on as well, a loving smirk coming onto his face. Miles’ eyebrow raised in curiosity, waiting for Klavier to finish. Pearl was whispering to Trucy, and they both seemed even more excited. Apollo felt Klavier squeezed his hand, and Apollo held on tighter. Apollo looked at Klavier, his eyes begging just to say it. Klavier smiled and nodded, giving Apollo permission to just blurt it out.

“We’re together! Like dating together!” Apollo exclaimed.

Trucy squealed, “I knew it! I knew it! I knew you two would get together on this trip!”

“How did you know?!” Apollo stammered out.

Trucy smirked and shrugged, “Just a gut feeling!” she paused, before continuing in a sing-song voice. “Plus, maybe I suggested this trip so you and Klavier could become closer~.”

“That’s my girl,” Phoenix said, ruffling Trucy’s hair.

Miles had a smile on his face. Pearls was grinning ear to ear, even if she didn’t know the two men as much as she knew Trucy, Miles, and Phoenix. Phoenix seemed extremely proud of both Trucy, and the two men in front of him. Apollo didn’t know how to react to the fact that this vacation was to set Klavier and him up. Klavier shook his head, chuckling.

“Of course, I shouldn’t be surprised by you, Fräuline Wright,” Klavier said.

Phoenix walked over to where Apollo was standing. He looked into the shorter man’s eyes. His hand moved to above the brunette’s hair, before he gently ruffled it. He smiled, his eyes looking like the ones of a proud father. He felt like a proud dad. Apollo leaned into his mentor’s hand, looking up at Phoenix. He smiled as he saw the look in Mr. Wright’s eyes. He felt like he was Phoenix’s son and… he didn’t mind that thought. The Wright Anything Agency was like his family. Phoenix took his hand off of Apollo’s head, before he stepped back. He opened his arms, as if asking to hug Apollo. The brunette nodded and hugged Phoenix.

“I’m proud of you, kid,” Phoenix softly said.

Meanwhile, during when Phoenix and Apollo were having their moment; Miles walked near Klavier. His eyes seemed soft, even for how Edgeworth usually was. He extended his arm out, as if asking Klavier to take it. Klavier smiled and took his boss’ hand. They shook hands, even if Miles wasn’t exactly a touchy person. He allowed it for this moment.

“I’m proud of how far you’ve come as a person, Gavin. I hope you are proud of yourself for being still strong even after everything you have been through,” Miles praised.

Klavier smiled, “Danke, Herr Edgeworth. Really, danke.”

That was Edgeworth’s way of saying “I love you”. He didn’t want to say it directly. That felt too bold for him. But he knew that in his heart, he saw Klavier as his son. Klavier felt so loved when Miles praised him. He didn’t know how the older man could ever praise him after he disbarred his fiancé. He didn’t know how Edgeworth could see him as his son. But he was still grateful, nonetheless. A part of him wanted to hug Edgeworth, but he didn’t. He knew Miles wasn’t a very touchy person.

Trucy watched the moments, alongside Pearls. They looked at each other, giving each other a look. Trucy walked over to Phoenix and joined the hug. Pearls followed along, joining in as well. Phoenix looked at his fiancé, speaking to him and Klavier.

“Come on, join in on the hug,” he paused. “Both of you.”

Klavier nodded and walked first. He joined the group hug, smiling. After a moment, Edgeworth hesitantly walked over. He soon joined in as well. He wasn’t a huge hugger, but this was one of his few exceptions. They all hugged for a few moments, until they eventually let go.

Soon enough, Miles loaded the car with their suitcases. The roadtrip was chaotic, as per usual. But Klavier and Apollo liked the chaos. Klavier felt like he belonged. He felt loved and safe. He felt like he was with his family. When they eventually came home, Klavier and Apollo shared a bed one more time.
