Chapter Text
Feathertail flattened her ears as rain poured down harder around them. Despite common belief, majority of Riverclan cats do NOT like rain.
“We should be reaching the cave soon.”
Feathertail blinked. She had zoned out again, whoops. But to be fair, when your traveling with 5 other cats, all of them being cats you don’t really know, minus your brother, there isn’t really much to do.
“I still don’t know if we should trust that loner.. it could be a trap.” Crowpaw muttered behind her.
Personally, Feathertail didn’t believe the loner was plotting against them, she seemed friendly enough, and warned them about the storm.
Squirrelpaw scoffed “Why would a random loner want to attack us?”
Crowpaw shrugged “You never know.”
The two bickered for a bit, until Brambleclaw, who was at the front, suddenly stopped.
“It should be somewhere around here.” He pointed to a steep hillside with his tail.
Squirrelpaw went ahead of the group. Feathertail assumed she just wanted to get out the rain, but honestly, who could blame her?
“Found it!” Squirrelpaw’s voice called out a little later.
Feathertail followed the rest of the group, her paws uncomfortably sinking into the ground. The cave wasn’t small, but not too big either. Enough room for all of them to have their own spaces.
Feathertail shook out her pelt, water splattering on the walls, and her brother.
“Hey! Your getting me more wet!” He hissed, although his voice was playful.
“How about I shove you out in the rain instead?” She snorted.
He let out a dramatic gasp. “You wouldn’t dare!”
She was about to respond but she was cut off. The sound of apprentices arguing filled the cave.
Brambleclaw sighed, and attempted to stop the fight, failing, and ending up joining it instead.
She saw Tawnypelt scoot away from the fight, annoyance clear on her face.
Stormfur narrowed his eyes at the fight, and turned to Feathertail.
“I’ll try to stop them.”
Feathertail glanced at the argument skeptically. “Good luck with that”
She sat next to Tawnypelt. She was the only one not arguing right now. Tawnypelt flicked her tail in greeting.
“You think they’ll ever be friends?” Feathertail asked, glancing between Crowpaw and Squirrelpaw
Tawnypelt snorted
“They’ve been arguing since we started this journey. If they met before this, they probably would have been arguing since then.”
Feathertail laughed. The rain calmed outside.
“You think this rain will stop soon?” Tawnypelt asked
Feathertail tilted her head, thinking. “I personally hope it doesn’t, then it would give us an excuse to rest longer, but Crowpaw might go insane if he’s stuck here.”
Tawnypelt flicked her tail, the motion ever so slightly brushing Feathertail’s paw.
“Crowpaw will go insane simply existing around us.”
There was silence between them, but not in a bad way. The only noise being the constant arguing and the now, softer rain pouring outside.
“Do you ever wonder why we were chosen for this quest?”
Feathertail blinked, the question surprising her.
“Hm?”
“Like— Why were we chosen? Why us specifically? Why not a leader? Or a medicine cat? Just three warriors and an apprentice?”
Feathertail shifted closer to Tawnypelt.
“Maybe they want us to prove ourselves?” She suggested.
She heard Tawnypelt’s claws scrape the cave floor.
“Havent we proven ourselves already? What more could Starclan want from us?” Tawnypelt hissed out
Feathertail gazed outside the cave, thinking about it.
“Starclan works in weird ways.”
“More like stupid ways.” Tawnypelt grumbled, earning a laugh from Feathertail.
They chatted a while longer, and eventually the rain stopped, and the argument.
Brambleclaw stepped out first, checking for danger, then nodding for the rest to follow.
“How much longer do you think we have until we find midnight?” Feathertail asked Tawnypelt, who shrugged in response.
“What does midnight even mean?” She replied
Feathertail paused, thinking. “Maybe it’s someone we're supposed to meet? Or a place we’re supposed to find?”
Tawnypelt opened her mouth to respond but was cut off by Brambleclaw.
“Theres prey around here, we could split up then meet back here with our prey?”
When everyone nodded in agreement, she turned to Tawnypelt.
“Hunt with me?”
