Chapter Text
Satoru raced after the bus trying desperately to catch up “hey-“ he yelled gasping for breath inbetween “stop…stop the bus!!” He cried trying to catch up and eventually gave up, how long has this cycle been going on? To long, seemed like a couple no since the last time he was on the bus and last time he was on the bus he got tripped and his backpack thrown out, why does he try again?
He dragged himself home and opened the door…there stood uncle Ben, a annoyed look on his face “Satoru!” He yelled “what the HELL were you thinking!” He scolded satoru spoke up trying to explain himself “well- he swung so I swung! I was just defending-“ uncle Ben spoke up “satoru, I did not raise you up to be like this! I understand-“ satoru interrupted getting fed up “I was just defending-“ uncle Ben stopped him “no satoru, i dont care if-“ satoru got extremely fed up, he scoffed “what do you know?! Your just a old geezer!” He said and left slamming the door harshly behind him, a loud echo going through the neighborhood, he heard his uncles voice, trying to call him back, but he didn’t care he pulled out his phone and texted the first person he could think of, Suguru
‘Hey Suguru can we hang out?’ He texted his fingers flying across the keyboard Suguru texted back ‘yeah sure, but it’s a little late rn, why?’ Satoru sighed and typed ‘can I tell you when I see you?’ Satoru could practically hear sugurus sigh from here as he typed ‘yeah. I’m at my apartment rn can your bring some soda?’ Satoru sent a thumbs up emoji and left out to go get some drinks for him and Suguru as he walked trying to get his mind away from all that
‘Was I to harsh?’ Satoru thought ‘maybe he was right’ he shook his head trying to rid those thoughts but there was a lingering feeling of something more bitter, more to this angry interaction than he really thought, those thoughts made him worried but he shook them off and went to some old grocery shop walking in and looking around for a six-pack of soda he knew sugurus favorite, cherry coke, he grabbed a pack and went to the counter placing the pack of soda on the counter and taking out some money, “that’s gonna be 12.34…” said the man at the counter satoru digged in his pocket and pulled out $12.32 and slapped it on the counter the man scoffed and said “that’s two cents off” satoru scowled at the man annoyed before saying “it’s just two cents!” He said the man said to him “well…if your broke just say so” the man snorted satoru scoffed walking away when he saw the man behind him, shaggy hair glasses and a star tattoo on his left arm
The man pushed down some small rack of snacks and the store employee behind the counter groaned “really man…” he said bending over to pick it up, the man reached over and grabbed some cash and looked at satoru tossing him the sodas and left out the door the store employee stood up “hey! Where are…” the store employee turned to the cash register and let out a groan “really man!” He said as he ran out the store trying to chase the man, he turned to satoru and said “come on man, help me out!” Satoru shrugged and said “not my problem” walking away to sugurus apartment
He watched as the man ran away pushing people to get across the employee yelling “someone stop him!” Satoru scoffed and said “why don’t-“
Bang.
Satorus eyes widen, he turned over and he saw it, not it HIM his uncle, he ran to him the world seemed slower panic set in mixed with dread as he looked at his body, it felt cold with the mix of warm blood trickling from his wound “uncle…” he gulped “uncle Ben…?” He said, despite knowing he couldn’t hear him as he looked into drained eyes “…uncle Ben..” he whispered again his voice cracking as he felt tears stream down his face he heard the distant voices of people screaming and a police siren and a ambulance but they seemed so…distant hands lifted him up pulling he back he tried to reach out tried to see his uncles face on last time before he was gone, and never seen again but he couldn’t.
Two days later
Satoru sat at the funeral home aunt may talking to some friends trying to lighten the situation, Suguru sat beside satoru placing his hand on satorus knee making him jump, “satoru?” Suguru said quietly “Are you ok?” Satoru felt a lump in his throat he opened his mouth to say something-
It was your fault anyways, you should be sad
Satoru tried to push that thought away he tried to bottle it up and throw it in the ocean and hoped his message only reached the bottom of the ocean! He wished he could just be away from this- everything was moving to fast! His thoughts where rushing his suit kept getting stuck to hands when he tried to adjust it and he was more snappy satoru was all over over the place and Suguru wasn’t blind! He knew that damn well Suguru was his friend…the only one he thought could understand him, “I’m fine Suguru…” he tried to push away his hand and Suguru gently let go “I’m no stupid satoru.” He said “I can tell something’s wrong…” he shook his head “I won’t push it for now, but tell me if it gets worse ok satoru..?” He asked. Deciding to give satoru some space he went to talk to aunt may leaving satoru alone in his thoughts
The drive home with aunt may was suffocating, holding uncle Ben’s ashes in his lap, satoru looking at the mistake he could have prevented. “Satoru…I’m so sorry you had to see that” she said “uncle Ben would never want you to think it’s your fault you know?” She said trying to offer comfort of course she knew, of course it seemed everyone around him seemed too how bad was his facial expressions? Where his eyes to watery? “I’m fine aunt may…” satoru croaked out holding onto the ashes “you worry to much.” He tried to sound more cheerful than he really was and it seemed to work a bit aunt may quietly nodded her head with a sad smile.
