Chapter Text

“Hey Kris, could I maybe go to your house?” Susie stood, hands in her pockets looking to the ground. “I like it there. It’s warm - not that I think it’s like, cool or anything…” Kris was putting their notebooks in their locker, struggling to find the right place. Their locker was exceptionally crowded, all filled with pie recipes, book series, multiple lunch boxes they forgot to take home and one of Asriel’s old jackets to wear when it started to rain. Kris turned to Susie and nodded with a smile, hoping that was enough to convince Susie they agreed. As Kris finished their organising and grabbed their bag, it was time to go home. “Wait for me, lemme get something from my locker.” Susie darted over to her locker, on the outside it looked clean, however it was very messy inside. An apple from yesterday, different jackets, a small umbrella, torn notebooks and various lunch boxes filled with what seemed to be chalk. Susie grabbed a small container of colourful chalk and closed her locker. “O-kay now I’m ready.”

The two children walked out of the school and into the front yard, leaves falling from trees and parents collecting their children. Susie stomped on every leaf she could find, enjoying the feeling of being Susiezilla. Kris continued to walk the usual path home, Susie following behind. “Hey Kris, you ever wonder what it feels like to be a leaf? You know, waking up on the tree and falling to sleep on the ground?” Kris pondered the question for a bit, humming their way through possible answers. They came up close to Susie and whispered something about how ‘leaves don’t have feelings I think, so it’s okay to crush them, but not when they are waking up.’
Kris returned back to the path, turning to the street above and passing the Librarby, only just making out a small bird’s head from the inside. “I mean, that’s a lotta things to think about with leaves. Maybe I’ll only crush a few…today.” Susie looked over to the shops and apartments beside her and Kris. “Maybe your Mom can take us to the diner some day. I wanna eat everything there!” The topic of food reminded Kris of something, so they hurried up to keep the pace fast.

Susie looked up and to the side again to find a big gate shielding a festive house. She always wanted to know what was in there. Maybe they had big candy canes? Maybe she could see Noelle one day… what’s that tail over there-
Soon enough Kris and Susie arrived at the Dreemur household, Kris opened the door and put their backpack on the couch. Toriel was baking some butterscotch-cinnamon pie, the family’s favourite and well-known dish. “Good afternoon Kris! Oh! I see you have brought your friend today!” Toriel smiled warmly at Susie and gestured the pair over to her. “What’s that Kris?” Before Toriel could propose her idea. Kris whispered something in Toriel’s ear and pointed to Susie. “Ah, of course! I was just about to ask! Susie, would you care to help bake the pie with us? You can take some home after.” Toriel watched as Kris smiled and grabbed some aprons for themself and Susie. “I hope I don’t mess this up though!” Susie jumped right into the action, pressing down dough and mixing things - only doing the fun parts. Kris washed some dishes and Toriel made sure the pair weren’t going to sabotage the pie like last time, where they ‘accidently’ put chalk in it. This time, Susie was caught with her chalk, Toriel instead suggesting she make a ‘chalk sandwich’. Soon enough the pie was ready to bake, Toriel put it in the oven carefully as Kris and Susie watched. “This is gonna taste awesome! But maybe a little not awesome ‘cause I didn’t put chalk in it…” Susie stretched her arms and walked over to the couch, hoping to catch some cartoons before the pie was ready. Kris joined.
They watched for what seemed hours on end, until the pie was ready. Toriel set up the table and cut some pieces to save for Asriel. Kris and Susie ate their achievement and soon enough had to rest before the next day at school.
“Hey Kris? I wanna do this more often. I like it.” Susie said before leaving the house.

Kris smiled.
