Chapter Text
Jack wasn't going to survive long. Shit, he could barely think anymore, stumbling around, dripping goop and centipedes everywhere, only to have them reform into him. He doubted he could breathe through the mask now covering his face, but he didn't think he needed to, anyway.
He could feel his body trying to shut itself down, Eveline was dead now, and the mold still coursing its way through his body wouldn't last long.
But he was still searching for her. His daughter, Zoe, the only family he had left now. After all, even with everything stripped from him, he was still a father. And this form was even more masculine than his original body. Which was good, it was right, it was what he was meant to be.
And then… He fell. He didn't know why. It felt like the ground just gave out underneath him, and suddenly… He saw her. And after this past month, she looked like some kind of angel.
“... Jack.” Well, it was wonderful hearing her voice.. but she didn't exactly sound happy with him.
“Heh… Marguerite.” Jack said, a little shocked by the fact his voice sounded normal again. He almost checked to see if he was still the swamp creature, but he didn't want to look away from Marguerite.
“Jack… Would you give it up?” Marguerite responded, fairly harshly. She looked a lot different, more like mist than anything, but Jack still recognized his wife, of course he did.
“I can't, I need to get Zoe, you have to understand that-”
Marguerite interrupted him. “No, Jack, you don't. She doesn't want to see you, she wants to move on.”
Oh, alright, he saw how it was. This Marguerite was either his conscience, trying to be some conscience, or something else dumb like that. And he wasn't gonna have that.
“Oh, please, I'm her father, I… I have a right to be there.”
Marguerite only sighed, starting to dissipate as quickly as she'd appeared. “Just… I'll wait for you, okay?”
“Huh? Marguerite! What the hell does that mean-!?”
Jack was cut off though, ending up back where he was before. Oh well. He was still getting his daughter back.
And he knew exactly where she was. If he could stay together long enough to get there.
