Chapter Text
Insomniac
Seong Gi-hun had trouble sleeping after he first played, the feeling of hands dragging him down, the sight of that expressionless black mask, it all wormed itself inside. Sometimes it felt like his brain couldn’t catch up to his body. Obviously he couldn’t sleep well beforehand either, but it especially didn’t help.
In the beginning, he had to drag his feet to get him to where he wanted, now, it seemed his feet moved faster than he could catch up. It got him in situations he didn’t want to be in more often than not.
One of those situations happened to be right now, Young-il sat next to him, the shorter man’s eyes scanned the room. Jung-bae’s snoring echoing throughout it.
Gi-hun may be taller, yet it was hard to deny Young-il’s broader body. The man’s tracksuit was far less baggy compared to the others. Gi-hun watched the group around them, bags under his eyes slightly more visible under the low light of the red and blue.
Young-il always seemed to be less fearful than the others, like he knew death was coming and wasn’t afraid. Gi-hun didn’t entirely know how to feel about it, such a stand-offish person, one who seemed to accept the idea of death rather than fear it. Or at least, that’s how it was in the beginning, now though? Now that he knows about Young-il’s wife? He didn’t know how to feel, but, he’d never been good with emotions, either too naive or too mean, there really wasn’t an in-between. He wouldn’t tell anyone, but sometimes, he still felt the curling up in his chest like sour, nasty bile, the curling he felt watching his friends die, lying next to his mother’s corpse. He felt it most when watching Young-il, knowing his wife is in the hospital, waiting for a man who might never come home. It scares him, of course he believes the revolution will work well, but, his instincts keep telling him not to, as if someone is listening. Obviously, he hasn’t really ever trusted his instincts, besides pressing ‘X’, and nobody he knew was insanely suspicious, sure Young-il did occasionally creep him out with the staring, but it wasn’t the worst. Or at least, he hopes.
