Chapter Text
"You know," she started. "I know it's been 19 1/2 years, but I think everyone will be happy if they find out you're still alive." The woman mumbled while typing into the computer.
"Not many people probably know me." The bot mumbled, waving his wand around.
She took his hands off of the keyboard, and shot the bot a look. "I mean, if you want back in, you've just got to ask to be back in."
The bot sighed. "I did miss my old job, Jane." The solemn look on his face was barely enough for Jane to handle.
Jane sighed while speaking. "All you've got to do is ask." She went back to typing for a few minutes, before turning around in her seat, and removing his hands again, only to see Perplexo trying to put a dove in a hat.
She watched him for a minute, until he got the dove to stay in the hat. "Jane, observe: you see, the hat is empty, but... when I put the hat on your head," he very gently put the hat on his friend's head, a thing he'd done so many times before. "...and you take the hat off..." removed the hat gingerly, "...look! He's in the hat!" Jane tried to act surprised, but she wasn't one to get super hyped about stuff (that's probably why her girlfriend broke up with her).
"Man, I don't understand how you manage to come up with a new trick to show me, every single day..."
Perplexo always enjoyed her reactions. "A magician never reveals his secrets." Jane smiled, and went back to typing.
"So," she mumbled "I think that if we increase the sensitivity of your touch, you should actually be able to feel the feathers on your dove." She paused. "...I think..."
Jane had spent 8 years in college, and ended up with a PhD in engineering (and a minor in philosophy). It has come in quite handy lately. "Or," she began "I could make the process both less painful and time consuming, but I'm not 100% sure that I can do it." She really only volunteered to help Perplexo stay in good shape for two reasons:
1) She wanted to keep a close eye on him after spending 4 years trying to get him fully up and running again.
2) Now that her girlfriend had broken up with her, she really didn't have much to do in her free time anymore.
She groaned and ran a few fingers through her black pixie cut. It needed to be trimmed (she trims it about once a month, just to stay consistent). "I think I know what I'm gonna do..."
About 7 hours later, Perplexo had finished recharging, and had noticed a fresh, new coat of paint that covered his body. "Now, how did you do that in 7 hours?" He questioned, admiring the fact that he could feel stuff again (and the fact that his joints didn't creak that much anymore).
"A magician never reveals her secrets." Jane winked, and proceeded to show Perplexo the fastest route to get to Blue Sky.
"What about you?" He asked. It was quite genuine.
Jane looked up. "Huh? What? Oh, me? Yeah, uhh. I-I'll be fine." She sucked at lying. "Frankly, I don't even know if anyone remembers that I even exist there..." She was back to mumbling. "I'll be fine back here." Perplexo nodded, and prepared to set out on foot.
It was going to be a long walk.
