Chapter Text
The next day, Daenerys, as promised, decided to fly with Rhaenys and is heading to her room right now.
He knocks on the door and hears no one.
The queen opens the door and does not see her niece.
A wave of anxiety runs down her spine. She couldn't have been stolen, could she? No one knows about her.
"Auntie! - it was heard in the corridor of the castle.
Stormborn left the room.
A joyful Rhaenys was walking towards her in riding clothes.
-It seems that no one has properly examined this castle. - the girl grumbled displeased.
-Where have you been? I lost you. - Daenerys put her hands on her shoulders.
The Queen was really scared that her only family could disappear.
-I was born in this castle and lived here, albeit for a short time. I was in my secret place and saw something incredible. You have to see it!
The Targaryens went down the stairs to the basement. On the way, Rhaenys told her aunt how she had hidden there when she was four years old, while Aegon was looking for her. After such antics, she often got into trouble with her mother.
The basement was dark, but the blonde lit a torch.
Daenerys saw the dragon's skull and visibly shuddered.
"This is amazing, aunt. I've seen this skull before," Targaryen said as she approached the dead dragon.
The queen wanted to stop her, but then she noticed a stone plaque on the floor near the skull.
"Caraxes is a fierce dragon that was ridden by Daemon Targaryen. You've never been here before, but it's so cool. It's been 170 years, and Caraxes's remains are still here," said Rhaenys, gently running her hand over the skull.
"But that's not what you wanted to show me, is it?" Daenerys quickly realized.
"Yes."
Before she could blink, the Princess had dived right into the dragon's mouth.
"It could be dangerous, Rhaenys!"
A minute later, the insufferable one reappeared, but not empty-handed.
"These are dragon eggs, aunt, do you understand?"
In Targaryen's hands were 3 eggs in different colors. The first egg was red, and the second was white, with an iridescent black in some places. The third was golden.
"But how is this possible?" The Queen approached her niece and touched the eggs.
Memories of her own dragons flooded her.
"They've probably been here for a while. Meraxes was in the dragon egg for seven years before I decided to burn it."
The family sat on the cold basement floor.
Rhaenys placed the eggs on the cold surface in front of her.
"Judging by their surface, they have been lying here for about 150 years?"
"One hundred and fifty years?! But how do you know?" - Dany was sincerely surprised.
"I remember that there was a lot of information about this in the books, and even with the naked eye, you can see the grayish surface."
Together with the amazing find, the Targaryens went to the study.
The flight on dragons will not take place today.
"Tyrion, what are you doing here? Do you want to talk to me?" The Queen's face expressed a cold indifference.
"About Jon Snow. He wanted to see you. My God, what have you got there?" The dwarf pointed to the object in Rhaenys's hands.
"Can't you see? Dragon eggs. Where is Jon Snow?" asked Daenerys, annoyed by the interruption.
After receiving the answer, she turned to leave, but then abruptly turned back.
"We'll talk again, Rhaenys." The Storm-born woman sent her niece a sincere smile and left to attend to her business.
Tyrion Lannister wanted to stay and talk to Targaryen as well, but he decided to leave the girl alone.
Daenerys found her family in a rather strange position.
After talking with the King of the North, she agreed to let them take the dragon glass, and they had just set off.
It was evening. The Queen went to Rhaenys chambers, but she wasn't there, so she found her in the study.
The blonde was sitting on the table, her hair disheveled, and she was biting her lip, staring thoughtfully at the three dragon eggs on the table.
"Rhaenys?"
"Oh, auntie!" Targaryen brightened and jumped from her seat. "I have decided what to do with the eggs."
"And what will we do?"
"Look: we have three eggs that are older than me and you. I propose to burn one egg and check how well it has been preserved. If it is true and we have a new dragon, then we must keep two eggs. One egg will be my child, the other will be yours. I have already chosen names, what do you think?"
The Queen was surprised by how much Rhaenys was talking. She had never seen her niece so excited about dragons.
"We'll think about names when the dragon is born, but your idea makes sense. However, I will never have children." Daenerys's expression turned sad.
"And you still believe the words of some charlatan? She could have been bribed to say that. If you believe her, you won't try to have children. The Targaryen dynasty will end." Targaryen approached the Queen and took her hands. "You don't need to think about the bad things. Just imagine that you can have children."
"Okay, I'll do as you say. When should we try?" - The Storm-born pointed to the eggs.
"Let's do it right now, will you call your advisors?" - the girl asked uncertainly.
Late evening.
On the shore near the castle, a company of Daenerys and Rhaenys gathered.
There was already a fire lit, in which the egg should be placed.
"Go you, Rhaenys, it will be your dragon."
Targaryen was definitely surprised by this.
"But why me?" The blonde smiled awkwardly.
"I already have Rhaegal, Viserion and Drogon, and even more so, watching over the little dragons is still a torment."
The girl nodded and took the red egg in her hands.
She walked over to the campfire and looked at her aunt. She looked at her with approval.
Nodding to herself, Rhaenys dipped her hands into the fire along with the dragon egg.
Her hands burned through her gloves, and she quickly removed them.
"It's a long process, isn't it?" The Queen approached her.
"I think I want to stay until the end."
Rhaenys alternated between falling asleep and waking up throughout the night, eager to witness the birth.
She had doubts, fearing that the eggs were devoid of life, but she was mistaken.
The fire had shrunk to half its size and was almost out, but that wasn't the point.
A small creature, about the size of a girl's two arms, emerged from the shards of the dragon egg.
The red dragonlet gazed at the world with its red eyes. The creature saw Rhaenys and approached her.
"Vezos?"
The dragon seemed to be asking the girl, glancing between her and the fire.
"Vezos, likirī." (Calm down)
Vezos climbed into his rider's arms.
Rhaenys smiled, tears in her eyes. She was so happy that they were alive and living there, in the eggs.
"Have you seen Rhaenys?" The Queen asked her council.
"I went to see her, but she wasn't in her chambers." The Queen's excitement was also transmitted to Missandei.
"Don't worry, my Queen. Maybe she's flying on a dragon?" - Lannister was speculating.
Daenerys was visibly angry. She pointed to the sky.
"Meraxes and Drogon are over there."
Tyrion fell silent.
"Oh, my aunt!"
The culprit of all the trouble entered the room, covered in black soot.
"Good morning, everyone. Aunt, I sat there all night waiting for the fire to go out, so I fell asleep." - Targaryen looked very funny now, so the Storm-born girl couldn't help laughing.
As soon as Rhaenys entered, it wasn't noticeable, but now everyone could see a small red dragon behind the blonde's back.
"This is Vezos, don't be afraid." The girl looked at the creature and pointed at her hands.
- Vezos.
The creature landed on her niece's hands.
"So you've succeeded?"
Daenerys approached her and carefully extended her hand towards Vezos, who shouted in approval and moved into the queen's arms.
In the afternoon, Rhaenys suggested flying on dragons, and her aunt agreed. However, there was a problem: where should they leave Vezos?
Initially, Rhaenys suggested keeping him in her chambers, as he wouldn't cause any damage. However, the queen declined and suggested that Missandei take care of him.
"Vezos, daor!(no!) Enough!." The girl said as the red dragonlet screamed at her dark-haired friend.
"I don't think he likes me."
Targaryen glared at Vezos, who suddenly calmed down and flew away.
At that moment, the girl was scared, because she thought the dragon might fall. But nothing happened: Vezos made a circle and landed on Missandei's shoulder.
"Amazing." The blonde girl said, wiping the sweat from her forehead.
Missandei smiled and looked at the creature.
Finally, Daenerys and Rhaenys went outside.
"This is the first time I've seen your dragons." - The niece saw Viserion and Reigal, about which her aunt told her.
"Touch them."
Rhaenys looked at her relative in surprise and unsteadily stretched out.
"They won't bite my hand? After all, I'm not their rider."
The blonde's hand reached out to Viserion first.
The green dragon rumbled and presented itself to the hand.
However, things were not so good with Rhaegal: the dragon was quite ferocious and initially wanted to shout at Rhaenys, but his mother stopped him.
"Why don't you approach Meraxes, Aunt?" Rhaenys suggested.
The girl called for servants with a huge saddle.
The poor servants were so afraid of the dragon that they ran away as soon as they had fixed the saddle on the creature.
Meraxes roared and looked at the rider, waiting for instructions.
-I don't understand how you ride without a saddle, it's very uncomfortable for me.
-I'm used to it. - shrugged Dany and approached Meraxes.
The creature looked at the Queen with interest.
Targaryen reached out her hand and Meraxes, smelling the blood of her own kind, rubbed against her hand.
-You said that Meraxes is ten years old, but she's not as big as Drogon, she's more like Rhaegal.
-Yes, Drogon may be huge. - Rhaenys approached her aunt. - But Meraxes is fast.
The last two members of the House of Targaryen flew until the sun set.
