Chapter Text

It had been 2 weeks

No words from Derek’s family.

Ok, now Avery was getting worried. The last thing he had open on his laptop was a letter addressed to Avery, so shurly they would try contacting him, right? Unless, Derek didn’t have a family.

No, no he couldn’t think like that. He needed someone to do check on him. Now. He knew he was dead, but it was still better to check on him.

And he had an idea. Avery booted up his computer and went back onto the Google Drive. Maybe his footage had proof of where he lived. But instead of Minecraft footage, he found a note.

’The footage in the folder belonging to 'Derek Hutchins' has been temporarily seized for investigation by the US D.M.S.. We thank you for your patience.’

‘Derek Hutchins’

That was useful.

Being a person who had dabbled in the hacking industry, he knew what he was doing. It was mostly just Googleing stuff anyway. He did some research, and found Derek’s city and school he attended.

He was 21. Avery signed.

Even though he was younger then Derek, he knew that he was too young to die. Avery was still a teenager, only just having left school, but he could see clearly, Derek had an amazing life. His collage was amazing, there were wildflowers and just amazing nature soorounding it, he had some great friends, he even had a dog named Coco. He had lived a great life, and it had all been taken away because of a Minecraft world. But that was another thing he had to think about. Thruogh a logging system he found, it said Derek lived in the college dorms, but was home for a week for a ‘family emergency’ it was overdue by 2 weeks. Why had no one checked on him in 2 weeks?

Evantually he found what he was looking for. An air code. An address. Derek’s address. Where Derek was right now. Avery hesitated for a moment, then picked up his phone. It rang and rang and -

“911, what is your emergency?”the dispatcher was very soft spoken.

Avery hesitated. He knew it was 911 but he didn’t expect them to pick up so fast.

“Uh, hi, so, my friend Derek went missing a while ago, and I was wondering if you could check on him?”

He almost laughed. Jesus fucking Christ, he was lying to the police. But he was sure that it was better then saying “yeah a Minecraft god named The King In Yellow merged brains with my friend and now’s he’s dead can you go get him”

“Uh, yeah, sure. What’s yours friend’s full name?”

“Derek Hutchins”

“Ok and what’s his address?”

They kept going back and forth and back and forth.

”is there a particular reason your friend would stop answering your calls or anything?” The dispatcher asked him like he was a kid. He was only 17, not a baby, but he didn’t say that.

“no, I don’t know why he stopped answering me.” He lied through his teeth “I’m just worried about him.”

“ok well I’ll send some officers to do a wellness check on him, alright?”

“ok, thank you so much”

“no problem, just doing my job”

Avery hung up the phone. Now he just needed to wait.

————————————————

Avery picked up on the first ring. “Hello??”

hi is this Avery Jones?” This was a different person then the dispatcher, he put together.

”yes, is this about Derek?”

yes, so, we preformed a wellness check on him and, unfortunately he seems to have had a stroke or a seizure or something, uh-

”is he dead?” Avery sat with the scilence for a few moments.

”..yes, unfortunately, he’s deseced”

Avery didn’t say anything. Just sat in scilence again. Then the officer spoke again.

so we’re going to preform the autopsy and we’ll give you a full answer in a few days”

“Huh?” He had zoned out for a minute. “Oh, yeah, of course”

him and the officer spoke for a while, and when he hung up, Avery felt happy. Not that Derek was dead, or anything to do with that. He was happy someone else knew. He was happy Derek could finally rest.

somthing he definitely deserved
