Seattle Grace : An Autopsy For The Greatest Band In History

Chapter 5: Now : Documentary, Episode 3

Notes:

Song referenced = Temporary Fix by One Direction

Chapter Text

Interviewer: So, you are the man credited with discovering Seattle Grace.

Richard Webber (Former award-winning musician, now a world-renowned music producer at Harper-Avery Records): I suppose you could say that.

Interviewer: Is that you being modest or is there a story there?

Richard: Maybe I am being a little modest but it’s because I believe that their talent is what got them where they are today, not my interference. Even if I did give them a great deal of help along the way.

/////\\\\\

Arizona: Richard was great. He still is great, I consider him a good friend even though we don't work together anymore.

Interviewer: Would you credit him with your band’s success?

Arizona: Partly, sure. The day he approached me was one of the best of my life.

/////\\\\\

Richard: I saw their star power immediately, it was like witnessing the birth of Christ.

Interviewer: You don’t think that’s a little dramatic?

Richard: Probably, but that’s the business. We’re in entertainment, right?

/////\\\\\

Interviewer: Richard Webber worked with your mother for many years before he worked with you, do you think that had any influence on his signing of the band?

Meredith: I’d like to think not. He and my mother were… close during their time together but Richard first showed interest in the band without even knowing who I was and he and I have managed to form our own bond over the years so… I don’t know.

/////\\\\\

Interviewer: You worked closely with Meredith’s mother, Ellis Grey. Were you surprised to learn that Meredith was her daughter?

Richard: I didn’t recognise it immediately when I saw her on stage, truthfully my eyes were drawn mostly to Arizona and Derek. But, when I saw her up close backstage, I saw the resemblance instantly, she’s the spitting image of her mother both in terms of looks and talent. To answer your question, surprised isn’t the word I would use, I would say I was more delighted. Ellis was the kind of talent you only see once in a lifetime and I was lucky enough to see a lot of it. I actually knew Meredith well when she was young, not that she’d remember of course. All of this to say, her being a legacy only made me feel more confident about my decision to invest in Seattle Grace.

/////\\\\\

Derek: We owe Richard everything. He and I don’t always see eye to eye but I have only the utmost respect for him.

/////\\\\\

Interviewer: Can you tell us a little more about the day that you discovered Seattle Grace?

Richard: I was at an event held by some business associates and they were playing. When I heard Arizona’s voice, it was like she was calling my name, begging me to notice her. Slightly dramatic again, but you understand what I’m saying.

Interviewer: Did you approach them after their set?

Richard: Yes, I walked right up to Arizona and introduced myself.

Interviewer: How did she react to that?

Richard: She directed me to Derek and told me to talk to the boss which I greatly respected. I gave him my business card and said that I wanted to make them stars and, not to brag, but I’d say I've definitely delivered on that promise.

/////\\\\\

Arizona: I was starstruck to be honest. Richard was one of my idols growing up. Plus, I was pretty distracted that day with some personal stuff so when he started talking to me, I knew I would have to delegate. Besides, I always considered Derek the leader even if it was unofficial.

/////\\\\\

Cristina: Derek? Oh yeah, he was totally the leader but don’t tell him I said that, his head is big enough already.

/////\\\\\

Interviewer: What was the first song they sang that night? The one that convinced you of their success.

Richard: It was the same song that I would later produce as their first single, Temporary Fix.

Interviewer: Which currently has over 1.2 billion streams.

Richard: I knew it was a hit immediately, what can I say? It helps to know your stuff.

/////\\\\\

Callie: I wish I had fonder memories of that night. I was thrilled about Richard’s interest obviously, but that event was actually held by my parents who… had opinions regarding certain aspects of my life and chose that night to make them known.

/////\\\\\

Arizona: Callie’s parents? Oh, they were homophobic… Did she approve of you asking me about this?

Interviewer: Moving on, you wrote Temporary Fix, your first released song and the one that captured the heart of Richard Webber and many more people all over the world. What was the inspiration there?

Arizona: Well, it was about an ex-girlfriend, as I’m sure you can tell from the lyrics. But something I never told anyone, especially Derek, is that the ex-girlfriend in question is his sister, Amelia Shepherd. Shout to her, my favourite hotshot neurosurgeon.

Interviewer: The one who convinced you to join the band?

Arizona: The very same. It was a whirlwind mess of a relationship, we’re much better off as friends but the song is great, I’m still proud of it to this day.

/////\\\\\

Interviewer: You were the manager of Seattle Grace. What was it like?

Miranda Bailey (former manager of Seattle Grace and Seattle Grace Mercy West, now manager of Meredith Grey): It was hell. Those kids could barely keep themselves alive long enough to record a damn song. They should count themselves lucky to have me.

Interviewer: So, you didn’t get along with the band?

Miranda: Did I say that? No. I loved those morons with my whole heart even if they really tested my patience.

/////\\\\\

Meredith: I love Bailey. There’s a reason she’s still my manager. I even named my son after her.

/////\\\\\

Arizona: Miranda is a dear friend, I can’t even count the amount of times she’s helped me out of a sticky situation. Also, not to brag, but I’m pretty much single-handedly responsible for getting her and her husband together.

/////\\\\\

Callie: Miranda is a saint. God knows what we would’ve done without her.

/////\\\\\

Derek: I adore Bailey even if I spend half my time trying to see how much I can annoy her. She’s always been there for me and… well there’s a reason my son is called Bailey.

/////\\\\\

Cristina: I’d never be caught dead saying it to her face but she’s kinda my hero. Tough as nails and a heart the size of a lake.

/////\\\\\

Miranda: I kept those talented idiots alive and thank God that I did because their music is a gift.

Interviewer: You were also the manager for Mercy West, isn’t that right?

Miranda: Uh huh, those kids were even worse than Seattle Grace but I did my best. The merger was probably the best thing to ever happen to them.

Interviewer: Was it your idea?

Miranda: I wish I could take credit, but no. I thought it was crazy and maybe it was. Who knows? All I know is that those idiots are stars, together or apart.
