Chapter Text
Trunnion hates everyone. There are several reasons for this: Because the standardization was imperfect and left her with the ability to hate, because not everyone on earth is in the Orthodoxy, and because she wants to. She was born into a family of Mexican immigrants who joined the church for higher-paying positions and then got Standardized. She rose to a higher position in the church due to her skill with the law. She is the main Legate, naturally, to communicate with the US government. The current standing is that the Orthodoxy can have its factories and standardization, as long as consent is given. Agreeing to standardization is currently falling under the legal definitions of medically assisted death. Well, to be fair, consent is not always needed. As long as the paperwork is signed in some way, the cash to make eyes go away, and the export taxes from the factory’s sales are enough. The process, similarly, limits personhood. But to be fair, even before all this, the Cogwork members were not really considered individuals under their own Schema. They isolate themselves, with Trunnion being one of the few even allowed to meet with the other denominations and the Vanguard. She is a pain in Bumaro’s ass, given the fact that she is very reluctant to agree to anything. Despite the church alliance saying they have to, she refuses to sign for an open exchange of information with the Vanguard. Instead, she operates on a “if they don’t bother us, we will not bother them” mentality. She hates Hedwig and especially hates that it is becoming easier and easier to be bothered by her, with how often she has to go to court or meetings. She and Bumaro have a professional relationship. They don’t like how stubborn the other is. She thinks him a coward and a liar for allying with the Sarkics. She has met with Saarn a few times, but the last one ended with them each shredding the other apart.
