Chapter Text
Sunday, December 19, 1999: 8:55 a.m.
The first class area of the plane was dazzling. The seats were spacious, they got their own private seating area, and their seats could stretch out into a bed. They were really living the luxury.
“Daddy Daddy look!” Genevieve tried to get Luka’s attention to show him that the seat could recline into a bed.
“C’est génial mon chouchou” (That’s great my cabbage). Luka took a look at the reclining seat. He did look slightly amused, but Hyunwoo coming to stay with them still brought him dismay.
“Jenny, stop fooling around and put on your seatbelt. We’re about to take off.” Hyuna hissed. She had enough of Genevieve’s nonsense.
”Ugh fine.” Genevieve rolled her eyes and put her seat back in the proper position. Hyuna kicked off her heels and got comfortable in her seat, covering herself with the blanket provided.
LAX: 9:45 a.m.:
“Ladies and gentlemen this is your captain speaking. We are now in Los Angeles. Please take your carry on luggages out of the overhead bins and make your way out the door!” The captain’s voice announced from the speakers. Hyuna stretched her arms and legs and yawned. She really did utilize all that flight time to take a nap. She put back on her heels and got up to wake both Luka and Genevieve up.
”Jenny, Luka, we’re here.” Hyuna whispered. She didn’t want to cause a commotion because it was technically still morning.
Luka’s eyes slowly fluttered open, and he turned around to look up at Hyuna.
”Morning.” Luka smiled before rubbing his eyes.
Luka then turned to Genevieve’s seat, where she was sleeping soundly, cuddled underneath the blankets.
”Chouchou, réveillez-vous.” (Cabbage, wake up.) Luka reached out his hand to nudge Genevieve’s shoulder. She didn’t want to wake up. She was too busy counting sheep.
”Jenny, if you wanna see your uncle you gotta wake up.” Hyuna brought down Genevieve’s Miffy and Hello Kitty luggages from the overhead bins. When she mentioned Hyunwoo, Genevieve sprung up from her seat and slid the seat door open.
”I got it mom.” Genevieve yawned as she grabbed her luggages from her mother, heading to the front of the plane and towards the gate.
“Ah! Fifi! Attendez!” (Ah! Fifi! Wait!) Luka folded his coat as he got up and took his luggage from his side of the overhead bins.
”You and that Goddamn name again…” Hyuna hated that nickname. Fifi. Luka used that on Genevieve a lot, ever since Hyuna was pregnant with her. Every time she heard that nickname she wanted to rip her ears off. It just sounds stupid to her.
”What? She’s my baby too. I can give her any nickname I want.”
”Whatever.”
LAX: 9:50 a.m.
There they stood, at the gate to Hawaii. They didn’t have to check in their bags since they’re being flown directly to Hawaii, and it’s being reserved at their hotel. Tye weather was a bit chilly, but not as chilly as New York. Luka was heating up though, so he took off his thick, long, crème colored winter coat and held it in his arms, revealing a black turtleneck. He kept examining the area in search of Hyunwoo, whom he still had some one-sided grudge against.
”Daddy? Why do you keep looking around?” Genevieve looked up at Luka.
”Pour votre oncle, Fifi.” (For your uncle, Fifi.)
Right as soon as Luka answered Genevieve, he saw a tall, tan figure in his peripheral vision. It seemed like it was Hyunwoo.
*Shit. He’s here…* Luka thought to himself. He had to think of something before he embarrasses himself because of how much he dislikes, maybe a distraction.
”Fifi, et si on allait chercher ce Starbucks que tu voulais tout à l’huere?” (Fifi, how about we go to that Starbucks that you wanted earlier?). Luka finalized. At least by finding somewhere to eat, he can think of what to do if he has to meet Hyunwoo.
”REALLY?” Genevieve’s eyes beamed with excitement. That was surprising coming from someone who doesn’t allow her to go to a place like Starbucks. Luka nodded his head, and they both made their way to Starbucks.
*Where are they going?* Hyuna watched as Luka and Genevieve left the gate lounge. Just to make sure, Hyuna took out her flip phone, one of the expensive ones, and dialed Luka’s number.
*buzz buzz* *buzz buzz*
Luka’s flip phone vibrated in his pocket. He definitely didn’t hesitate to answer since the only contact that was in there was his wife’s own. How sad.
”Hello”
”Luka, where’s you and Jenny going?”
”To the Starbucks. Should be around here. I don’t think it’s that far-“
”Oh my Gosh Hyunwoo! Hi!” From Hyuna’s side of the phone, Hyunwoo finally arrived at the gate, where she greeted and gave his a tight embrace.
”Goddamn noona you’re not dressed for the weather at all. We’re going to Hawaii for Christ’s sake!” Hyunwoo was right. Hyuna was wearing a burgundy turtleneck and a long flowy black velvet skirt with dark brown heel boots. Before, she was wearing a thick maroon winter jacket, but it was getting too hot, so she took it off.
”I know I know, weather differences am I right?” Hyuna chuckled.
“So uh…where’s your…husband and Genevieve?” Hyunwoo switched the topic.
”Oh! He’s on the phone right now with Genevieve. I can put you on with them.” Hyuna gave her phone to Hyunwoo. Looks like Luka can’t escape him now.
”Hello?”
“Ah! Hyunwoo hi!” Luka got whiplash from that voice, but he had to keep his cool, especially with Genevieve, and especially within a public server.
”So, how life treatin’ ya? Are you treatin’ my sister right?”
”Yes definitely, she’s my wife after all!” Luka chuckled.
*Well I definitely treat her better than you, you bitch.* Luka muttered in his head. His fake smile switched to a more petty expression, probably the ones that bullies pull once they’ve interacted with their target.. Even twelve years later, he still hates his guts.
“Can you hand the phone over to Genevieve? I wanna talk to her.”
”Yeah sure! Fifi, c’est ton oncle” (Fifi, it’s your uncle.)
”GIVE ME THAT! Hellooooooo~” Genevieve snatched the phone, immediately lifting the weight off of Luka’s chest, and he sighed.
”Genevieve!”
”UNCLE HYUNWOO!” Genevieve giggled.
”Hey! Sorry for the long wait! What can I get ya?” The barista approached them from the counter.
”Just a cinnamon roll and a regular coffee. That’s all.” Luka said softly, trying to forget that interaction that he just had.
”Alright, that’ll be $12.99.” To the average person, nearly $13 would be considered a little expensive for a medium sized coffee and a snack, but for Luka, that was straight up equivalent to pennies, so he took out his premium credit card, the one that only the elite of the elite would use.
Now, if he was some regular shmegular average Joe, many people would be shocked. But this was Luka, THE Luka JeanPaul Lafayette. The one that took the lead of the film and music industry with Hyuna trailing right behind him, so the barista wasn’t surprised one single bit.
“Daddy daddy!” Genevieve tugged on his sleeve as he slid his card back into his wallet.
”Hm?”
”Uncle Hyunwoo’s talking about Brad Pitt.” She covered the phone speaker.
”Ouais, et lui?” (Yeah, what about him?)
”He’s says why can’t you be as cool as him.”
”…” No comment.
”And I agree, and he’s like a year older than you. He doesn’t dress like a grandpa from the 1900s.” Obviously that was an over exaggeration. Luka just tends to wear more sophisticated clothes, even on vacation. The barista was trying to keep her composure and not burst out laughing while brewing Luka’s coffee.
“Eh bien, c’est tout simplement comme ça que ton papa s’habille” (Well that’s just how your dad dresses.) Luka tried to defend himself.
“Nooo but like think about it. Imagine if he was my dad for like a day, and you’re not. That’ll be like so fun.”
“Fifi arrête ça. Tu me blesses” (Fifi stop that. You’re hurting my feelings.)
“I’m kidding. But imagine though-“
”Arrêt.” (Stop.)
”Your coffee and cinnamon roll sir!” The barista seemed to be quicker than usual. I mean it was a small order after all. As always, he thanked the barista, and they made their way back to where Hyuna and Hyunwoo were staying.
“Daddy?”
*Oh my God* “Mhm?”
”Are you mad at me?”
“Non Fifi.” (No Fifi.)
”You don’t seem okay…”
”Ce n’est rien.” (It’s nothing.)
“Okay then…”
The walk back was pretty silent. Genevieve was enjoying her warm, toasty cinnamon roll, despite knowing the risk of some of it being stuck on her braces, and Luka casually took small sips of his piping hot coffee.
”Oh so that’s where you guys went huh?” Hyuna noticed that they’ve finally came back mid conversation with Hyunwoo.
“Genevieve made me go.”
”No I didn’t-“
”Shush Fifi you did.” Luka hissed. That was his excuse to get away from Hyunwoo, but he just didn’t want to say it. He made some subtle gestures that signaled ‘Get Hyunwoo out of my sight’, like keeping a slight distance from him, and keeping the conversations with him brief. Somehow he did manage to keep his composure. Hyunwoo is three years his junior, so he had to be mature.
To keep an even further distance from him, he sat next to Hyuna, and wrapped his arm around her shoulder, trying to prove to Hyunwoo that he still loves her.
