Chapter Text
Something’s wrong. Very wrong.
My guts are telling me so. My guts are always right.
Ivan. Ivan. Something is up with Ivan.
God, Ivan.
So I text him. A simple ,”Hey, everything alright ? How are you holding up ?”
Ivan always reads my texts quickly, always. I’m sure nothings wrong ! Just… my intuition isn’t right. I’m just going crazy, that’s it.
But the text hasn’t been read. That’s unusual.
It must just be a mistake from my phone. So I send another text. Another simple “Ivan ? How are you holding up ?”
Same conclusion. Not read.
Fuck, Ivan.
I grab my keys, and call Sua. She picks up on the second ring.
“-Sua… Sua *pant* Sua, it’s Ivan !
-Mizi ? Did he stir up shit again ? Do I need to pick him up ?
She sounds confused, annoyed. Slightly worried, too. But she sounds like she’s trying to hide that worry.
-No, no, no no no ! Meet me at Till’s house ! That’s where he always is !” I try to calm myself down, but it’s not working.
Ivan.
Ever since Till’s… suicide , a month ago, he’s been like a shell of his former self. Not a single laugh, or even a smile. Just a emotionless, soulless being, numbly making his way around. But he still answered his texts. I mean, At least my texts. I don’t know for other people.
Sure his answers where most of the time. A simple “ok”, or “idk”, but they were still answers.
So. Him not even reading 23 messages was unusual. Extremely unusual.
I hop in my car, and speed to Till’s house. Honestly, I haven’t had the heart to go there more than once
, even though I have a spare key. I can’t even look at pictures of Till without sobbing. So going to his house definitely wasn’t going to be easy.
But that’s where Ivan always is. Always. He’s spent every last minute since… that, in Till’s house.
I see Sua, waiting near the garage, her car already parked. I don’t bother parking too, and rush out, stumbling on my own feet.
Sua catches me, and holds me up.
“-Mizi, calm down .! Tell me what the hell is going on ! Why are you in this state ?! Why are you bawling and barely standing up..?”
I can’t even muster up an answer. I break free of Sua’s arms, with difficulty, and run to the door.
Till’s key in my hand, i struggle to use it, and miss the lock, but finally manage to open the ghastly door.
Everything in the house is still the exact same as a month ago. Except… except for… except for Bean’s meows. Those horrendous, atrocious, terrifying meows. The exact same I heard a month ago.
Bean. Bean, my precious Bean. You never meow. So why, why am I hearing meows filled of sorrow ?
Why am I hearing the same meows I heard a month ago, stumbling upon Till’s… hanging body ?
I sprint up the stairs, tripping and stumbling and fall to the door to your favourite place in the world. Till’s room. Sua is still trailing behind me, yelling my name, confused, concerned. I think she’s yelling my name, but I can’t hear anything, except for the ringing in my ears.
I hurriedly open the door.
…
“Ivan ?”
…

Mizi fell to her knees, her heart feeling like it had been the victim of a stampede : completely crushed. Her eyes were filled with the absolute utmost of horror. She was shaking, crying, sobbing, like losing a part of her soul. It was the second time she had to see a dear friend’s hanging body in this exact room.
Sua quickly caught up to her, and cane to her aid, not noticing the scene before her eyes. She didn’t quite understand what was up with Mizi.
Though, that was until Mizi, with a shattered heart and a trembling finger, pointed to the gruesome scene before her terrified eyes :
Ivan, dead. And hanging there. Bean, also somehow looking scared, meow like a mad cat.
Ivan’s neck was a maroon shade now. The sky, on the contrary, was quite a delicate shade of blue, melting to pink and orange.
A singular star was visible in the sky. It shone strongly, as if weeping. It was quite a peculiar sight.
Sua’s reaction was quite immediate : her whole body froze. She sunk to the ground, letting go of her grasp on Mizi. She didn’t cry. She didn’t feel sad. She felt nothing. Not the typical, quiet, rested “nothing”.
The horrifying, void-like ‘nothing’. The ‘nothing’ that eats you through your heart, gnawing at your emotions like an enraged beast, the kind that drives you to madness.
Though Mizi’s reaction was fairly common for people seeing their loved ones hanging body,
Sua’s was a little more peculiar : though that was what her brother felt, a month ago, stumbling across his dear’s hanging body in this same dreadful room. But now wasn’t the time to pay mind to their reaction. I had to do my job.
So, gently, I made my way to Ivan’s hanging body, and collected the remaining, stubborn pieces of his soul, refusing to depart from his corpse. They were soft, and cold. Like melting ice cream.
My job here is done.
Though she can’t feel it, I caress Mizi’s cheek gently, carefully.
Though she can’t feel it, I embrace Sua’s limp body, gently, carefully.
These girls have been through a lot.
.
I make my way out of the house, carrying the cold pieces of Ivan’s soul. This job was a little harder than the usual ones, i have to admit. The sky was pretty, though.
I really need some vacation.
And, dear readers, please. Be careful with yourselves, be careful with your lives, or I, Death, will have to come to your doorstep.
The End.
