It has been 184 days since Annabeth last seen Percy. 184 days since he had gone missing. 184 days since she had started searching nonstop for him. And 184 days since she had last gotten a good night's sleep.
She was sitting on her bed, rubbing the red coral pendant that he had given her for her birthday last summer. She could still picture his face when he gave it to her. His dark hair that was always swept to the side like he had just walked on the beach, his green eyes twinkling with something that looked like excitement, and maybe hope. Gods, she loved him. They hadn’t been together at that time, but gods, hindsight is 20/20. She wished she could go back in time and shake both of them, saying, “Just get together already!” She groaned and fell backwards on her bunk.
She had just visited Sally that afternoon to say it might be her last. They were supposed to be leaving for Camp Jupiter soon, but the Argo II was having some delays due to Gaea. Delays, delays, delays. Just another barrier between her and Percy. She didn’t realize she was crying until she felt the tears roll down her cheeks and soak into the fabric of her blankets. She buried her head into her pillow and sobbed, letting out all of her anger and frustration. She was so angry. Angry at Gaea and this stupid war, angry at Hera and her stupid plan to steal her boyfriend, and angry at the world for not just letting them have a break for once.
She took in a deep breath and started to steady herself. She had to be strong and lead. She would see him soon. She had to believe it. And once she found him, she was not letting him go. Never again.
Just hold on Percy, I’m coming.
