“ How are you coping with it?’ Deuce asked.
“ Not great’ Toralei answered.
“ Yeah, I understand that-‘ Deuce murmured.
“ Can you, though? You have 2 moms who love and support you, so you don’t know what it’s like to have a neglectful parent!’ Toralei cried.
“ Except I do. Before Mama Lyra came into the picture, I did have a dad, or father figure more like it, until my moms met. He taught me how to do all the dad stuff, batball, football, etc. Then right before my 12th birthday- He vanished. Didn’t say goodbye. Didn’t leave a note or nothing. So I do know what it’s like to have someone neglect you, and I’m sorry that happened to you’ Deuce apologized.
“ I’m sorry too-‘ Toralei began, as a knock on the door cut them off.
“ Come in!’ Deuce called, knowing it was Clawdeen.
“ Tor! Are you okay?’ Clawdeen asked.
“ I’m okay now. Deuce got me off the ledge’ Toralei answered.
“ Anytime’ Deuce smiled.
“ Where’s my mom?’ Toralei asked.
“ She left after we had some words’ Clawdeen answered.
“ Ooh, look at you getting sassy’ Deuce teased.
“ What words?’ Toralei asked.
“ Just that she can’t expect everything to go back to normal just because she came back, then a few more colorful words’ Clawdeen answered.
