What does it mean when your life in hell is better than before you died?

Chapter 4: Balcony.

Summary:

Trix goes out to the deck to see Alastor.

Notes:

this is in Trix’s POV (This is also during s1 of hh) also she has been maturing a lot more easily since she was adopted (she is still naive about what death and pain actually meant but lets not tell her yet. Or never. Yea no never)

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

I woke up, feeling like something was off. Not a nightmare, not a loud noise that jolts me awake, just a feeling. (There was some yelling, but it's probably Vaggie was screaming at Angel dust’s ear off about something)

I looked at the clock. 3:42.

(What are people doing up at this hour?)

I tried to sleep, but I couldn’t. I felt like there was something wrong, but I didn’t know what.

I decided to get off my bed and walk out of the room. I just felt like something was wrong, and I needed to fix it. I was just wandering around the halls, trying to find where I needed to go.

It wasn’t really long since I last came to the Hazbin hotel, and now all of a sudden a lot of drama is happening. The angels are coming for us earlier than usual, AND Alastor is back after seven years. It has only been a few weeks.

Before his absence, there was a fight between him, Husk, Niffty, and I against the… what was it? Oh yeah! A fight between us and the Vee’s and their assistant named Aqua.

I didn’t like the Vees and I still don’t, especially the moth guy. I know his name, but I won’t say it since he doesn’t deserve one. He is so weird, invasive and mean! Good thing Husk helped me when he was beating me up.

I also began hating him even more after hearing about Angel’s treatment. I would love to punch his head in.

Also, there is Aqua, the shark girl. She is a lot more respectful, but she hates me so much for no reason!

She keeps on saying about how I get everything and that I don’t deserve it and that she at least gets her stuff through work…

…Niffty one time wandered over to the Vee tower and saw her getting the exact same treatment WITHOUT working. What a hypocrite.

Anyways, I finally found where my gut was telling me to be.

The balcony.

The railings were polished, nothing was broken and the flowers seemed fine and healthy. The only thing that was odd was the fact Alastor was up at 3:30 (or 4:00? I don’t have good time management) on the balcony.

It was weird because he didn’t like doing this. He often doesn’t go out during the night time to watch the scenery, he always liked it when he had his “beauty sleep”- which is, by the way, just standing by the corner of his room and making his eyes look weird (no its not shutting his eyes its literally the opposite.). He does sleep normally, he just likes doing it in a weird way more often.

Look, I know he is weird as heck, but maybe there was something wrong.

“Alastor?” I ask.

“Hm? Oh. Hey Trix.” He responds with an unhappy tone.

Ok, this is really off.

He usually is and sounds a lot more jolly and joyful, especially when he is speaking to the people he likes… This is different. He sounds a lot more… Sad.

“Is there something wrong?” I questioned.

“No, no…” He mumbled.

It was silent for a while. I knew that there was something wrong with Alastor, and he knew that I know that he is not ok.

“You should go to sleep.” He says. “It’s almost 4:00- besides, what are you doing up at this hour?”

“I don’t know.” I answered. “I was trying to sleep, but I couldn’t. I felt like I needed to fix something.”

“Hm.”

We stayed silent for a while. I thought about leaving, but feel like I am one step away from finding what I need to do.

“Alastor, are you ok?” I ask.

“What?”

“I just feel like you might feel sad about something.”

It was silent once again.

“No I am not.” He denied. “Go back to bed dear.”

I felt like I was beginning to do something wrong, so I was just about to trot away back to my room.

“Trix.”

I freeze and turn around.

“Could you… keep a secret?” Alastor asks.

“Sure!” I say.

I walked up to the railing and jumped onto it.

“Sooo… what do you want to talk about?” I ask.

“I just want to talk about my mother.” He answers.

His mom is a person that he doesn’t talk about often, he does mention her from time to time, however.

“My maman is a great person. She was amazing at both cooking and baking. She was kind to everyone she met, and always protected me from… my ‘father’.” He says “She is quite literally an angel. So honest, so polite… I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a seraphim underneath.”

“She sounds like a good person!” I comment.

“Mhm… but my father, however… he is a horrible man.” He continued “He’d get mad at me just for simply asking about simple things, and threatened to kill me. He’d also do this to my maman.”

“I don’t like your dad. He sounds horrible.” I say.

“Yes, but I managed to make it through… anyways… back to my maman.” He went on "Despite being polite, she can be… very odd and disturbing at times. She’s actually a lot like me. I guess that's where I got it from.”

“What happened to her?” I ask.

Alastor went silent and looked at the shining orb in the red sky, emitting a quiet radio buzz in the air.

“She’s in… a good place now.” He says.

“Heaven?” I ask. “I thought you hated the idea of you coming to that place?”

“I hate the idea but… It was… said that it’s a place where good people go to. My Maman was a great person. She must be thriving up there.”

“Well you’re a good person to me. So is Husk, Niffty and the rest of the hotel crew. Why aren’t you guys up there? You stop bad people from doing bad things down here don’t you?” I reply “Why do you hate the idea of going to that place anyways?”

Alastor was about to say something but then shut his mouth.

“I think that conversation is one for another day.” He says. “Anyways, how did you know that I was… upset?”

“I dunno.” I admitted. “Maybe it’s that contract thing?”

“Perhaps.”

“You have been getting pretty smart and much more mature ever since we last met.” A deep voice says.

“Yeah!” A more high pitched voice replies.

Me and Al looked behind us to see Husk holding a beer bottle along with Niffty.

“What are you two doing here?” The deer beside me asked.

“Couldn’t sleep.” Husk answered. “I ended up wandering out of my room to get a beer, saw Niff, wandered together and ended up here.”

“We were listening to your entire conversation.” Niffty added.

“Why is everyone up at 4 am?” I ask. “Is Charlie and Pentious the only people sleeping?”

Al stared at the cat and cyclops and then shrugged. He turned to me and patted my head. “Thank you Trix. Now go along. Let's get to bed.”
