Chapter Text
The idea of the triple date had been Jamie’s.
Of course it had.
He had announced it in the group chat three days after the café incident, declaring that since “the secret couple had finally been exposed to society,” it was now everyone’s moral duty to celebrate.
The chosen location was an amusement park just outside the city.
Bright lights.
Loud music.
Too many people.
Too much sugar.
Exactly Jamie’s type of place.
---
They met in front of the entrance just before sunset.
Jamie and Marvis arrived first, already holding two enormous cups of lemonade and arguing about which ride they should start with.
Duang and Qin appeared next, walking side by side, Qin calm as always while Duang talked nonstop about roller coasters.
Then Tong and Pae arrived.
Together.
Which still made Jamie grin like a villain every time he noticed it.
“There they are,” Jamie announced loudly.
Pae sighed immediately.
“We just got here.”
Jamie pointed dramatically at them.
“The couple.”
Tong groaned.
“Please stop introducing us like that.”
But Jamie had already turned toward Marvis.
“They’re still embarrassed.”
Marvis laughed softly, clearly entertained by the entire situation.
Pae rubbed his temples.
“This was a mistake.”
Tong leaned closer and murmured quietly, just for him:
“You’re the one who agreed to come.”
Pae gave him a side glance.
“You said there would be fried food.”
Tong shrugged.
“That’s a fair reason.”
Jamie clapped his hands.
“Alright! First ride!”
---
The amusement park quickly turned chaotic.
Duang dragged Qin onto the biggest roller coaster in the park.
Jamie and Marvis disappeared toward the haunted house attraction.
Which left Tong and Pae standing near a row of blinking arcade machines.
For a moment, it was strangely quiet.
Tong glanced at Pae.
“You okay?”
Pae watched the roller coaster scream past overhead.
“…I’m questioning my life choices.”
Tong laughed.
The sound was light, effortless.
Something about nights like this made everything feel easier.
They eventually wandered toward a smaller ride—one of those slow spinning ones that looked harmless but made people dizzy anyway.
Pae stared at it.
“This looks suspicious.”
“It’s not,” Tong said.
Two minutes later they were both regretting it.
When the ride stopped, Pae stumbled slightly while getting off.
Tong grabbed his arm instinctively.
The movement was automatic.
Easy.
They both froze for half a second.
Three months earlier something like that would have felt awkward.
Now it felt… natural.
Pae noticed it too.
He didn’t pull away immediately.
Tong cleared his throat.
“…you almost fell.”
Pae raised an eyebrow.
“You spun me in circles.”
Tong smirked.
“Not my fault you’re fragile.”
Pae lightly bumped his shoulder.
Tong laughed again.
It was one of those small moments that their friends might not even notice.
But to them it meant something.
Because not long ago they had been careful.
Quiet.
Secret.
Now they were just… themselves.
Together.
---
Meanwhile, across the city, Kim was walking alone.
Because Kim had refused to go.
He had dramatically declared in the group chat that he was “not attending a festival of couples.”
So while the others were screaming on rides and eating too much cotton candy, Kim was wandering through the city.
The evening streets were calm.
Warm lights from cafés.
Soft music spilling from open doors.
Kim walked without a clear destination.
Being the only single one in the group had never bothered him before.
But today… it felt slightly different.
Not bad.
Just noticeable.
He stopped near a small convenience store.
And then he heard a familiar voice.
“Kim?”
He turned.
Standing near the entrance was someone he hadn’t seen in months.
Rin.
His full name was Arin, but everyone called him Rin.
They had been friends since university—close enough to know each other well, but life had pulled them in different directions after graduation.
Rin looked exactly the same.
Messy hair.
Sharp eyes.
And the same slightly amused expression he always had.
Kim blinked.
“…Rin?”
Rin tilted his head.
“You look like you saw a ghost.”
“I thought you moved away.”
“I did,” Rin said casually. “I moved back.”
Kim laughed quietly.
“Well that explains it.”
They decided to walk together.
At first the conversation was simple.
Work.
Friends.
Life updates.
But something felt different from before.
More relaxed.
More open.
At one point Rin bought two canned drinks from a vending machine and handed one to Kim.
“You look like you had a long day.”
Kim sighed.
“My friends are on a triple date.”
Rin laughed.
“And you escaped?”
“I refused.”
“Smart choice.”
They walked for almost an hour.
Talking.
Teasing.
Sometimes just walking in silence.
It was comfortable.
The kind of silence that only happens between people who understand each other easily.
At one point they sat on a low wall near the river.
The city lights reflected on the water.
Rin leaned back slightly.
“You always did this,” he said.
“Did what?”
“Disappear when something bothered you.”
Kim looked at him.
“…was it that obvious?”
Rin shrugged.
“Only if you know you.”
Kim smiled a little.
They talked for a long time that night.
About things they had never really discussed before.
Dreams.
Regrets.
Small fears.
And somehow, without either of them noticing when exactly it started, they began meeting more often after that.
Coffee after work.
Late walks through the city.
Movie nights that lasted too long.
At first it was just friendship reconnecting.
But slowly, quietly, something deeper grew between them.
Rin understood Kim in ways that surprised him.
Kim made Rin laugh in ways no one else could.
Months later, during another one of their late walks, Rin would casually slip his hand into Kim’s.
And Kim would realize that it felt completely natural.
Like it had always been meant to happen.
That was how they fell in love.
Not suddenly.
But steadily.
Like two paths that had always been moving toward the same place.
---
Back at the amusement park, the night had fully fallen.
Lights sparkled everywhere.
Jamie was still causing chaos.
Duang was trying to convince Qin to ride the roller coaster again.
Marvis was laughing at everything.
Tong and Pae stood near the railing overlooking the park.
Watching the lights.
The noise.
The people.
Pae exhaled slowly.
“…this was actually a good idea.”
Tong smirked.
“Don’t let Jamie hear you say that.”
Pae glanced at him.
“You’re enjoying this.”
Tong didn’t deny it.
“Maybe.”
Pae shook his head.
Then after a moment, quietly:
“I’m glad we told them.”
Tong looked at him.
“Me too.”
Below them, the amusement park lights reflected in Pae’s eyes.
For a moment neither of them spoke.
Then Tong gently bumped his shoulder again.
“Come on.”
“Where?”
“The ferris wheel.”
Pae narrowed his eyes.
“That’s suspicious.”
Tong laughed.
“Trust me.”
And for once-
Pae did.
