Chapter Text
He could hear the loud Hogwarts students from behind the door to what they called the ''Great hall''. The doors eventually opened-and luckily he was exempt from the stupid performance that the rest of Durmstrang had to do. Now, looking at it, he didn't find the ''Great'' hall to be all that great. He was bored. Draco scanned the crowd, looking upon the many children, and teenagers in the crowd. A boy caught his eye. Wait, he knew that boy. It was Harry Potter from that day in the Quidditch shop. He didn't so vividly remember it now-but that sure was Potter. Flesh and blood. He dismissed it. No familiar face would get in the way of what he was really here for. And so, he sat on the Gryffindor table, watching as all the people looked at him nervously.
''Is it true Viktor Krum goes to your school?'' A tall, lanky boy chimed in, eyes wide. His fiery red hair covered his eyes almost fully. Draco glared, staring daggers at the boy in front of him. It was Potter's friend.
''Yes, and you are?'' Draco knew. It was Ronald Weasley. He looked away, smirking haughtily. If this was who he'd really be up against for the competition, did he even need to try? Just then, two even taller redheads came by, identical to one another. They looked like the tall lanky one-only definitely stronger than him.
''Is this that git from Durmstrang?'' one of them asked, a wild grin on his face. If trouble was a person, It looked like those two young men. Draco nodded quietly, suddenly very quiet. He didn't think conversing with any of the Weasleys would get him anywhere. Now he was ready to leave. Luckily the Slytherin table was right beside.
''And so the great Draco Malfoy finally arrives.'' A fat, ugly boy says as he reaches the table. If that isn't welcoming. The only person Draco recognized was of course, Potter. However, Potter was staring straight through his soul, eyes locked so intensely on Draco that he barely noticed he was joining Potter right across from him.
''Potter.'' He says softly, immediately interrupting Potter's intense gaze.
''Hm? What is it?''
''The next time you envy someone, try not to make it obvious.'' Draco smirks. Stupid, sure. But those words definitely riled Potter up. He needed to know more about him, though. Maybe, if he just...read his mind. This once.
R E A D I N G 1. H A R R Y ' S M I N D.
Does he know? God, he knows. Wait. Maybe he doesn't. Oh bloody hell, what am I saying? He's not able to read...Blink twice if you can hear this.
Draco widens his eyes, then finally understands. He intentionally doesn't blink, keeping the poor boy on edge.
You survived a killing curse yet not meeting a boy from a different school? How powerful. Fantastic, all powerful Harry Potter is scared of Draco Malfoy.
Draco nearly lets out a laugh at this. But no, no one can know of his ability. Not his parents, not Durmstrang, not even a boy who survived Voldemort's wrath.
E N D O F R E A D I N G.
Draco sure has learned a fair bit about the boy. Apart from already knowing about ''The boy who lived'' from around the age of 5, he now knew Potter had a good poker face. The fact that a boy, who had dodged death itself, was a legillimens was expected by Draco. It was only natural there was something more hiding behind his ''innocent'' feats. He had now realized that Potter had strong occulumency after trying to read him again, only to be met by a sharp headache. Potter glared at him from across the Slytherin table.
This would not be the end of their hatred, not even close to the beginning.
----
''Is that him? Draco Malfoy?'' A boy whispers, eyeing draco like he's some animal in a zoo. It's the library, for Merlins sake.
''Don't get too close...He might be dangerous...'' another student whispers.
''I greatly appreciate such comments.'' Draco spits as he walks past them, glaring daggers at the boy. Before he can walk fully past, though, he accidentally bumps into someone. Oh gods. It's Potter himself. Surprisingly, he seems quite relieved to see Draco. Was he expecting someone else?
''Draco! Draco...Malfoy...'' He lets his gaze flick over Draco's unfamiliar school uniform before looking him in the eyes again.
''Hogwarts is honored to have Durmstrang here, you must know...'' But before Potter can continue on with a forced smile, he cuts in.
''Save it. I know all I need to know, Potter.''
