Chapter Text

It was the first playoff game where the Twins would be going against the Bears. The sports journalist found herself hanging out with Wonyoung after the cheerleader practice, Yujin would text her between practices. She had to admit felt fluttering feelings when she was around them.  Gaeul was worried about running into Son Eunseo, star pitcher and won two World Series championships.

Son Eunseo was also Gaeul’s ex-girlfriend.

The two first met when Gaeul was a first year at the university, while Eunseo was already in her third year. Gaeul was Eunseo’s tutor for a modern literature class and was surprised how her sunbae took on the elective. Eunseo became the face of the baseball program, her sights already being recruited to the major leagues.

Eunseo was her first kiss, first time, and first love.

It started to go downhill after Gaeul’s friends told her about how flirty Eunseo was with other girls, which made Gaeul more anxious about their relationship. She remembered clearly the day she saw Eunseo with another girl. Gaeul finished a term paper and as she was heading back to her dorm, she heard a familiar laugh.

Gaeul turned around to find Eunseo with her arm wrapped around an unknown woman’s waist, she then kissed the woman on the lips.

The sight made Gaeul’s heart break in a million pieces.

Blinking away her tears, Gaeul didn’t want to look back.

The next day, Gaeul ended it with Eunseo. She simply told her that she needed to focus on her studies and future. Eunseo simply brushed their relationship off and the next week she was exclusive with someone else. The baseball star later graduated and signed to a national league as the draft first pick.

Gaeul only went on a few dates after her relationship with Eunseo, but a certain someone caught her eye.

Or certain someone(s).

She was trying to review her notes while Eunseo called out to her. “Gaeullie, how have you been?” Eunseo gathered her in a tight embrace. Gaeul noticed that her touch lingered. Pulling away, Gaeul answered back.

“I’ve been okay, Eunseo-ah.” Gaeul put on a nervous smile, feeling that she was put in a corner. “Congrats on your two wins.”

“Thank you, Gaeullie. I’ve also been reading your articles and your work is well-written.”

Gaeul nodded her head and scanned the area to get her out of the situation.

“So what are you doing after the game? After the Bears win, I’d love to take you out to dinner,” Eunseo smirked at her, thinking she still had a lot of game.

Before Gaeul responded back, she called out to the two people who clouded her mind over the past few weeks.

“Yujinnie, Wonyoungie!”

She noticed how Eunseo faltered but smirked to cover it up. The LG Twins rookie and cheerleader approached them.

“Do you know them, Gaeullie?” Eunseo smirked and then glared over at Yujin.

Gaeul gulped and stuttered out, “I know them actually. They are my close friends.” Wonyoung went by her side and wrapped her around Gaeul’s. The cheerleader glared at the rival pitcher. Yujin exhaled out of her nose, she could care less about Wonyoung at Gaeul’s side right now.

She had a bigger bone to pick with Son Eunseo.

“As expected of Kim Gaeul and her devotion to the LG Twins. How are your mothers doing?” Eunseo asked.

She met Gaeul’s moms…Yujin thought to herself. She concluded that Gaeul and Eunseo had a past together. “They are alright…but Eunseo-ssi, I need to start preparing before the first pitch.” Wonyoung held onto her a little tighter.

“So if the Bears win the first play-off game…Let me take you on a date.” Eunseo flashed her a smug smile. Before Gaeul could respond, Yujin responded quickly, “You wish, Son.”

Now all eyes were on Yujin.

“Why not, Ahn? Unless you want to take Gaeul on a date,” Eunseo laughed at the thought.

“I do want to take her on a date, but not on those terms.” Yujin proclaimed with conviction, looking over at the shorter woman. Gaeul let out a small gasp while Wonyoung glanced at her.

“Son Eunseo, get over here now!” A manager called out to her.

“We will settle this on the field, Ahn. Bring it.” Eunseo grunted. She then grabbed Gaeul’s hand and kissed it. “See you after the game, Gaeullie.” Wonyoung and Yujin were about to speak up but they were called out by their teams to get going. “See you after the game, unnie.” The cheerleader pulled her in close for a quick hug.

Yujin gave her a look, she was motivated to win this first playoff game.

Gaeul was left stunned and wanted to talk to both women after what happened.

..

The Bears were out on the field and the LG Twins were up first to bat. Yujin let out a shaky breath and practiced her swing, getting ready to hit first. She had to push back the encounter with Eunseo and focus.

She was going head to head with Eunseo, the Bears pitcher showed no mercy.

“First up to bat is Ahn Yujin!” The announcer exclaimed and the fans cheered. Yujin adjusted her helmet and gripped onto the bat. She held the bat high, getting ready to swing.

Eunseo smirked and nodded her head. The rival pitcher wound up and threw the ball, Yujin swung her bat.

“Strike One!” The umpire exclaimed.

She adjusted her stance and got ready.

“Ball!”

Gaeul bit her lip in anxiety, the game barely started. She glanced over to Wonyoung who was with her teammates. Yujin and Eunseo continued, Yujin had two strikes and three balls.

“Ahn Yujin hit it out of the park!”

Yujin was starting to sweat under her helmet, she gripped tighter on the bat. Eunseo looked onto the crowd as if she was looking for Gaeul. The Bears pitcher wound up and threw the pitcher.

She felt a pain radiating from her shoulder, fans letting out a gasp. “Yujinnie!” Gaeul called out to her.

“Walk!”

Yujin threw her bat to the side and rubbed her shoulder, she just got hit by a fast pitch. She nodded her head in reassurance and made her way to first base.

“So Son Eunseo wants to play that way huh?”

..

It was the bottom of the fifth inning, The Twins were up by 2 and now Yujin would be pitching, Eunseo is up to bat. The Bears had two outs. She tried her best to hide her smirk after receiving calls from their catcher.

“Strike One!”

“Strike Two!”

One more strike…Gaeul thought to herself. She thought about she needed to talk to Yujin and Wonyoung separately after what went down with Eunseo.

Yujin nodded her head, winding up her pitch and threw the ball. She gave it her all, the rookie watched as Eunseo swung her bat. The catcher caught the ball and the umpire yelled out, “Strike Three, you’re out!”

Eunseo huffed in annoyance, the stadium roared with cheers. Yujin looked over to Gaeul who looked proud.

“Let’s close this out, unnie!” Jiwon ran up to her and patted her back, the Twins were now up to bat.

Gaeul smiled at her, cheering her on.

Yujin felt her heart burst, this game needs to end fast!

..

Wonyoung finished cheering after the seventh inning stretch, she took out her phone and sent a message to Gaeul along with selca.

Unnie, did you want to grab a bite to eat after the game?

I do have to complete an interview after the game, if you are okay with waiting a bit. My mothers’ debrief can be postponed for tomorrow kekeke

Sounds good to me, can’t wait to spend time with you!

Same Wonyoungie, you are doing great :D

The game was reaching to an end, and the Twins solidified their win with a home run. Their fanbase cheered with passion, Yujin pointed over to Gaeul and smiled widely.

My good luck charm…

..

Gaeul was preparing her questions for the players, waiting near the locker room. She also hoped that Eunseo wasn’t lingering around. After fifteen minutes, Yujin appeared out of the locker room.

“Gaeul unnie! Are you interviewing me?” She smiled at the sports journalist, “Also about that date I want to have with you…” Before Gaeul can respond back, team members exited the locker room.

“Unnie, am I finally having that interview?” Jiwon beamed at her.

The sports journalist smiled nervously, “Today is the day after you made that home run, Jiwonnie!” The first basewoman yelled in victory, “Yah Kim Jiwon, tone it down a notch.”

Gaeul and Jiwon made their way to a conference room. Yujin sighed in defeat, missing her chance yet again. The pitcher felt another presence in the area, Yujin turned around.

Only to find Jang Wonyoung out of uniform.

Notes:

A/N: Here is the new chapter and trying my best with the baseball game lingo. I do like greasy Eunseo, she was fun to write. The Wonyoung/ Yujin war continues to win Gaeul's heart. Please comment on what you think, they are appreciated ;-;
