Chapter Text
Fear was a very important thing in his world. It always had been, and it always would be. This time, there was a much more wholesome reason fear was important. It was because your soulmate would have a power corresponding to your largest fear.
Jon's powers were mildly annoying at times. What his soulmate feared most was to disappear—to be forgotten and to have no one. And so that is what happened to Jon; he faded into the background. People's eyes would simply pass over him. And if he didn't reach out first, he might as well not exist.
Which worked out well for him most of the time. When he was a kid, he could wander around the neighborhood, simply walking past the bullies. When he was a teen, no one bothered him about being in the halls when he was supposed to be somewhere else. And there were more than a few times he was late for a college lecture, and he just lied and said they forgot about him.
At times it was inconvenient. like right now, when he was waiting for Tim. They hadn't agreed on a very specific location, only a very vague ‘at the station’ which meant that he was probably looking for Tim while Tim was wondering why he was there.
Jon rolled his eyes, checking his phone again, Tim still hadn't read his message. He had to go find his friend before the next train left. It would not be the first time someone completely forgot about their plans with him and went home only to check their phone and say sorry, as if they could control his soul powers.
He stood from the bench he had been sitting on, looking around the crowd. He couldn't see Tim anywhere. “Sorry,” someone said, as they passed “pardon.” Jon turned to stare.
Normally crowds just treated him like an oddly mobile wall. That person just acknowledged him and his general existence. He looked around.
There was another man who froze as well, blonde and tall. Jon raised his hand, those blue eyes fell on him. I see you, Jon.
Why are you doing this? You asked me to. No i didn't? Yes you did? Here, I'll give you your memories back.

Jon and Martin walked, there was no day, no night they just walked. They walked for hours, they walked for days, they walked for weeks. They walked through horror, through terror, through pain.
Then it stopped.
The sky flickered for a moment. The eye shifted, becoming softer, sweeter. Jon froze, halfway through a step.
Martin glanced back at him, “you ok?” He asked sweetly.
“Something changed.” He said, and ‘something’ was putting it lightly. Everything was different. Every torment paused, the endless horror lifted.
Jon looked up, the wide eye in the sky was now creased slightly as if smiling– which I am, by the way. Smiling, I mean.
He thought for a moment before a slow and cautious “What?” tumbled from his mouth.
Martin tilted his head, hair tumbling over his forehead– “That angle wouldn't do that.” Jon said stupidly. “Hey!”
…
Can you hear me?
“Yes?” Jon said, ignoring Martin's confused stare, “sorry, Martin something” someone, thank you very much. “just- what?” im sentent.
“Whatever, someone took over the eye?” yeah. I did that.
“What?” Martin said, running a hand through his adorable curls. His hair was knotted a minute ago, Jon thought desperately. “How can you tell?”
“How can you not?” Jon said, oddly frightened. “It's not odd!–”
“Martin,” he said grabbing the man's shoulders “the sky changed colors,” oh, shoot. Really?
“It was green before.” nasty! “Yes.”
Martin looked around, “I'm pretty sure the sky has always been blue.”
Blue? Is it really blue? “Yes, it's blue. It was blue originally then the dark green.” Blue is so boring, “the torment stopped, the fear is gone.” Do you think it can change the color? I like pink…
Martin brushed some hair out from Jon's face. There was no hair in his face before. “Thats good, isn't it?” he asked, face beautifully back lit by the hot pink of the setting sun.
Yeah, im good! I'll do anything you want. Just name it.
He was getting oddly frightened, “it–” she, “she says she'll do what ever we want.”
Martin smiled, “honestly, I just want to forget about all this and live a normal life.”
I can do that! “Wait–” what's normal? Working at a coffee shop is normal, right? Yeah, I can do that!

“Wait, that's why you're doing this? You just wanna help, but you don't know how?” i do know how. I was told how. I just needed you to forget, I just needed you to live a normal, safe, life.
“No, you aren't helping, this isn't helping.” Then how do I help? I just want everyone to be happy.
“People can't just be happy all the time. You can't just make people be happy.” what do I do then?
“I don't know. I'm not the right person to ask. I'm just some guy who ended the world.” but, I want you to be happy. What would make you happy? “My friends, let my friends remember everything and We 'll talk it out.” ok.
