Chapter Text
It was now later in the afternoon. Annabeth has taken her along for dinner and explained that they sit by their respective cabins table, but because Elie wasn't claimed yet she sat at the Hermes table. After taking some of the Mac and cheese that was being served and putting some of it in the fire as an offer to the gods she walked to the Hermes table. There were about 20 kids there and everyone was staring at her as she sat down, it was so awkward. The first one to speak up was a tall slim kid who looked like one of those annoying boys at her old school. “So, strawberry girl, you're somewhat famous in the deadly world.” She had heard nothing about that. “Am I?” a boy with curly brown hair that was sitting next to the tall kid spoke up “We found this sitting on a tree right outside camp.” It was a missing poster with her photo on the paper and the text underneath it said Missing teenage girl, last seen in Montauk, Long Island. Reward of 200,000 American dollars. “You seem to be kind of a big deal if your parent is paying that much money to get you back.” She couldn't believe it, but at the same time she could. Her dad never seemed to care that much about her, but he'd buy anything for her without even seeing what it is.
Elie was sitting on the grass watching the sun set and making a flower crown out of grass and whatever flowers she could find. Just as she finished Percy came up to her “Hey, we're making s'mores by the fireplace, wanna join?” She was not saying no to some s'mores, and Annabeth had said that she might get claimed by the fireplace tonight. She walked beside Percy, looking at a stripe of grey hair in his jet black hair, how many stressful situations would you have to be in to have grey hair by 16? The fireplace was in the middle of the circle of the 20 cabins and almost everyone was already there. They were making s'mores and the guys that showed her the missing poster were trying to knock off people's marshmallows into the fire, she made a note in her head to avoid them. Chiron was in his horse form, she would never get used to it. “Elie, how are you enjoying camp half blood so far?” At least a hundred eyes were on her, terrifying. “Uh- um It seems nice here..” Dammit, she sounded so nervous, everyone was totally judging her and she would never be able to get any friends here now. “Do you know your godly parent yet?” A girl said, she had a similar flower crown as hers and an orange camp shirt. “uh- no, when am I going to get to know that?” Someone else answered. “There's no chosen time that you'll get claimed, it could happen anytime.” It could happen anytime? What if she doesn't know that she's being claimed and she'll forever remain unclaimed, that sounds like a nightmare.
After the fire’s burned out everyone goes back to their cabins to sleep. Elie doesn't have a cabin yet so she gets to stay in the Hermes cabin, the most crowded one. The inside of Hermes cabin looked like a mess, there were a bunch of feathers on the floor after a pillow fight the night earlier and clothes thrown in piles in front of the dressers, it was clear everyone at this camp had ADHD. The whole room was covered in bunk beds that reached the roof. A girl greeted her and showed her the bed she got to borrow for the night, or forever. It was a top bunk, which was at least 3 meters up in the air, she definitely didn't wanna fall down from up there. It wasn't hard to go to sleep, this day had been too much. She had ran away from her dad and travelled for 3 hours by hitchhiking, ran away from a hellhound, finally got to camp half-blood and found out that one of her supposed parents was not her parent at all and that she had a god as a mother or father. It was all just too much.
