Chapter Text

BOOM.
I dropped to the ground and covered my ears. That was the loudest thunder I had heard in all my immortal and mortal life.
I glanced over at Hermes. He was crouched, staring at something in the sky.
I followed his gaze.
Two bodies were falling out of the clouds like comets. If I were a demigod or mortal, I might’ve thought they were shooting stars. But I could see better than that.
“Is… that—” I started, slowly standing.
Hermes’s voice jumped an octave.
“Apollo and fucking Artemis!”
I had to resist the urge to say No cursing. You know Chiron does NOT allow that.
Hermes straightened, wings twitching behind him, almost like he was about to take off.
As quickly as the storm came, it vanished. The sky cleared like nothing had happened.
The dread in my chest didn’t leave with it.
“I need to catch them before they hit the ground,” Hermes said quickly. “They’re not moving.”
“You better hurry,” I told him. “They’re falling toward the ocean. And I don’t exactly trust Uncle P not to drown Artemis and just save Apollo.”
Hermes snorted.
“Okay.”
He spread his wings, preparing to bolt.
Then he looked back at me.
“By the way,” he said, voice tight, “this conversation is not over. You understand?”
There was something in his voice I couldn’t quite name. Anger, maybe. Or worry.
“Alright,” I said. “Now go.”
He was gone before I finished the sentence.
I looked around the empty camp again.
Alright, D, I thought. You’re back to your original problem.
You should probably try to solve it before Hermes comes back.

Notes:

I’m soooo mad, I lost my notebook I was writing this story in. So now I have to make new scenes.
