Chapter Text
November 1st
We were awoken by the primal tribe with painted scar faces, who happened to steal our fire as quick as thunder. He ran leading the others along scurrying back to their shelter chanting rather gruesome words. The day was dragged on as our numbers lowered and Jack’s number of people rocketed. I stared back at Ralph startled by the ambush, he prepared mangos and distributed them among us. Ralph had started to get a fire going, Jack showed himself about 13 men behind him. He asked if we would like to go to a feast and eat the freshly caught pig. We had a group vote. As we arrived at the camp I ran off too far. The pig head, it started…. Speaking like my father, maggots peeling off the flesh everywhere, in my father's voice, it slithered “You’re a silly little boy, that's all you’ll be.” There….. Is no beast.. It was the lost body of the pilot . I ran through the bushes and set the leaves aside. The others chant while darting towards me….. Jack’s spear ripped through my heart as the others caved around me to do the same. They tore through me one by one. Jack took down his face mask and looked me in the eyes as his pupils shrunk. Simon….. He ran away, from…. Me? The others fled after I was pierced like a pin cushion. My hands started to tremble, as the blood erupted from my mouth. The memory was vivid, he had us both stand on the hill behind the cathedral and shout “Let there be light,” he looks tremendous. His yellow hair shining like the sun itself, he said “We are as Gods” because if we are not Gods then, how else will the world be made? The savages gone, Jack ran back to my side carrying me. He tried closing the wounds… it was too late, but of course he already knew that. I took my last breath in his arms, hugged him tightly for the last time. This time held his hand, he didn’t pull away. He sent me out in the water, lips pressed to mine for the first and last time, tears streaming down as I slowly drifted home. Yet it won't feel like home, he won't be here for me this time. Maybe in some other lifetime we were at the cathedral, singing our hearts out sending eyes, maybe we meet here again hunting some pig, or perhaps we’d both leave here together with his hand in mine. You will escape Jack, if not me certainly you.
