Chapter Text
It was a little after midnight. Jamil was scrolling through Magicam on his phone, as he did on nights where he couldn't sleep. It was a lot of the same stuff, the algorithm felt lazier than usual at this time of night.
But little did he know, there was gonna be something different to keep his attention soon.
"Jamil..." Kalim whined from across the room.
"What, it's past midnight."
"Can I sleep in your bed tonight...?"
Jamil sighed, this was a weekly, almost daily occurrence by now. Was he sick of Kalim asking because he didn't like sleeping with him? Or was it because he wished Kalim didn't think he needed permission for it?
"Fine." He said. This was the first time he caved so quickly.
Kalim giggled and got in bed beside Jamil. "Thank you!"
"Whatever, just go to sleep."
Kalim nuzzled into the crook of Jamil's neck, seeming to relax almost instantly. "Night..."
And then, he was out like a light. Jamil could hear the second his breathing slowed, feel his hearbeat calming against his own chest. Without thinking, he buried his face in the boy's silver hair.
His hair was soft as clouds and smelled nice, yes. But with his head in it—much like an ostrich with its head in the sand—he couldn't as well look at his pretty serene face in the glow of the moonlight.
You can't always have it all. Jamil knew that, he's always known that. But he learned to settle. But it's not like he wanted to, especially not with Kalim. Everything about him was something to love, and he wanted it all.
What he didn't want was to be alone with these thoughts. Alone physically, no, but Kalim was asleep, what could he do about it? Besides be Kalim,
which made it...worse.
