Chapter Text
There was a low humming, a sound that soothed the muscles, a vibration that felt healing. Chatter about days passing and current experiences. Squeals and laughter accompanying the chattering. Also a smell of fruits, a minty feeling going through his nostrils.
The vibration was new, there was no humming in the other towns or villages they visited and rested in. Maybe it's the technology they heard about when travelling here. Scyth grumbles, shutting his eyes closed tight. He brings a hand over his face to cover his eyes, he sighs briefly. Scyth notices the arm slinged around his shoulder, the sound of a snore coming from his right side. He felt oddly irked though.
They were constantly abhorred. Hybrids, half–humans. Or anything not fully human was hated. Humans ruled this planet, they were intelligent and had nothing special about them, other than their apparent intelligence. Maybe because humans had strived harder than the other species, achieving things others could dream about for a hundred years or more. Humans had only appeared in the planet for a few thousands of millennia, yet they had done so much.
Perhaps they had done so many incredible things due to their appearance looking so similar to The God, or Goddess. No one really knew what gender the supposed God being was, or even if they had a gender, or if it even existed.
Scyth shook his head, carefully he took the sleeping beauty's arm away from him and stood up. The day doesn't stop for anyone. He stretches, a yawn escaping his lips. His wolf-like ears twitching.
Moving his legs sluggishly, he went to fix his appearance. Using his claws to comb his hair, he takes off the two weapons he brought with him—a small dagger and the bow and arrow, he wasn't that excellent at bow but his aim was okay. The Merucuian thought about yesterday.
First: they had been walking to Palacía for 2 days, only reaching it's vicinity halfway through when it was dawn. He untangled a lock of dark green hair. Second: They were found by Scar, a peculiar name to have. Well, his name is a tool but his mom told him he was named that way is because he was strong.
Smoke.
Fire?
Scyth should stop thinking about the past. Bygones are bygones.
He finished untangling all the locks of hair, retracting his claws he plays with his ears; a small chunk of where a part of his ears should be—gone.
Scyth doesn't really have any change of clothes so his very showing outfit should suffice. He should buy more outfits if both him and Liffy were planning on staying their lives here.
He opened the door, this place sure had alot of doors.

She squeezed the empty space, silently sulking the missing presence. She wanted the touch to last a little longer. Curse her desires. If she could, she would have him close forever. Okay this desire has to go.
Liffy groggily opened her eyes, using her hand to cover the sun rays filtering through the window just above the head board. The rays touched her hands, softly warming her skin. She inhales to shake her drowsiness; groaning she gets up, rubbing her closed eye. Her demon-like tail thumping against the soft mattress.
Hm?
She inhales once more, smelling a sweet aroma that tickles her pleasure receptors. Liffy grins, all of the previous drowsiness gone. She hops off the bed, not caring about fixing it she opens the door and follows the scent.
"Go fix your hair." Scyth deadpans. Fixing the placement of the utensils the hundredth time for this hour.
"Not even a goodmorning?" a small pout formed on her lips, an insult on the tip of her tongue "Rude, but I'll let it slide for those..." Saliva drops from the corner of her mouth, stars basically beamed in her pupils. The tail slowly wagged, twitching from restraint.
"Take a seat." He orders, his grey eyes staring ahead. His ears flop as he sits down very abruptly, it twitches from side to side as he starts to dig in his meal. Liffy mimics his action and starts happily gobbling her plate.
Liffy start taking small bites, savoring the flavor. It tasted saltly with some hints of sweet. Maybe the blood was the sweet but damm was this chicken was good; she likes it have salty. She swallows and takes another bite. "Hey, where's the water?" she asks, taking a bite of the chicken. "Alsooo.. gulp. where did you find the plates?"
He looks up, his ear twitches once; twice. "hm." Scyth looks behind him; the drawers and the cabinets. "It's on the right corner." he responds, going back to the meal. " "Kay' "
The bloodfiend noticed the low humming in the air, a buzzing sound that could be ignored; it freaked her. She faintly recalls something unsettling she heard about when she was just a kid. She brushes it off, could be just from something related to the technology she heard Scyth read about.
Metal scraped against ceramic, a sharp pitched noise. Birds chirped outside; sunlight streaked the living room/kitchen. The living room and kitchen is connected. A constant low hum of something filled the background.
It's a nice day isn't it?
"Liffy, don't you think a stranger whom we just met. Gave us keys to a seemingly expensive house?" He says what was on his mind. Both of his utensils on either sides of his plate: crumbs and leftovers of his finished meal.
"Eh, I didn't question it, but now? I dunno." Liffy said, her eyes on the plate. Just finishing her chicken. "It is suspicious now you say it." Shrugging as she stands up. "You wash!" she gleefully said, dropping her plate in the sink. "That's not fair.." Scyth stands up, following Liffy and placing it in the sink. He pushes the chairs into the table—like when he did that as a kid.
"This house has no dishwashing." He realizes, he opted to wash it with water—cleaning it nicely. Shaking his hands he backs up from the sink. Searching in both mental and the physical to place the plates and utensils in, before long he finds the drawer containing the plates; remembering where the utensils was also placed.
No dishwashing but it has plates? It's stupid.
"Liff." He said. "We need to go out." he states, already at the door.
"What? Oh come on!" She whines.
They walked around, observing, talking, and just seeing the surroundings. There's a group of adults talking about inconveniences in their day, children playing with eachother—a game of tag.
Stalls lined the street with vendors happily selling to their customers, far in the back was the houses. There was a street cleaner here and there, sweeping the road.
The rays of sun beat down on them, a cold rush of wind brushing their hair a new hairstyle. People around is wearing casual; some is wearing suits and dresses, some wears hats—most has the big ones.
"So hey? Scyth, why are we out here?" She steps infront of the aforementioned man, her hands behind her back—a cheeky grin on her face.
"We're searching for Scar." He answers, grey eyes staring at the blue sky.
"Why that woman?! I know we need answers, but why am I dragged into this?" she whisper-screamed; gesturing with her hands—her nails short, and black.
"Because," he lightly chuckled, a small smile forming on his lips. "I need to know why exactly we got the house for free" he emphasized, putting his hands on his hips.
She groaned, stopping momentarily to put her head in her hands. Breathing deeply she removes her hands. She looked away, rolling her eyes—shutting them before looking at the merucuian. Her eyebrows firmly knitted.
"You have no choice, Liffy." He warned. He faced her, putting one finger up; pointing at her—his wolf ears twitching like a broken light bulb.
"Fine!..." She reluctantly agreed, arms limping to her sides.
They have been asking strangers for an hour, sweat dropping on their forehead and backs; all the answers they both got were: 'who?' 'I'm sorry, I can't help you.' 'The retired mage?'.
The lists goes on.
Simply put, they had no luck of finding Scar.
Scyth growls, wiping the sweat beading on his forehead. "Where is this witch?!" He spat, his tail wrapping itself around his thigh. Liffy on the other hand was sitting, eyes closed. "I dunno. I must've asked like.. a hundred people." She said with a sigh of irritation. Her small wings flapped against her back—smooth and scaly.
"We should just give up. I'm sure we'll bump into her sooner or later." She cracked one eye open, opting to gaze at Scyth; glazing over his features. He was looking ahead—unfocused, he had a sharp jawline. Hair messy and untamed despite the many times he had brushed through it, having red streaks in a time before her arrival, despite that, it had framed his face perfectly. His ears were flat and floppy—she had to suppress the urge to just play with them.
He wore a turtleneck shirt, tightly wrapped around his upper body, he had a strap right above his pecs.
She could have a piece of him, alright.
"Wake up." He pestered, his face close to her own. Hot breath fanning on her skin.
She hastily pushed his face away, mushing his face and creating a barrier.
"You were in my personal space." she reminded, a faint blush caressing her cheeks. The sound of a tail wagging going unoticed.
"Okay." He flatly said, eyes rolling. He went back to his spot, leaning on the wall and crossing his arms.
A child no older than 7 approached them. Their tail wagged behind them as they spoke. "Hello? sir– ma'am, uh- can you help?" they asked sheepishly, looking down as their wolf ears turned downwards.
Liffy's gaze landed on the child, something swelled in her chest. "hey.. what's your name little one?" She said, her voice becoming softer.
"Machi, ma'am." The boy answers, twiddling with his fingers.
"Alright, what do you need help with, Machi?" She questioned, leaving her chair to crouch infront of the wolf-boy. A warm smile forming on her lips.
"I can't find my dad.." He mumbled, holding his hands close to his chest.
Scyth stayed silent, observing. Asking himself:
(when did Liffy have a soft spot?)
He wretched his gaze away, scanning for the supposed dad. The boy should look like his father, right?
Black hair, golden-brown eyes. Should be easy, right?
It in fact wasn't easy in the slightest. Apparently, it was very common to be a werewolf, have black hair, and hair golden-brown eyes.
"Asking people is getting nowhere, again." He declared, his tail wagging slowly—restrained.
"Calm down. Machi, where did you last see your dad?" Liffy asked in a voice soft with affection. The boy shook his head. "I.. don't know." he said.
"fuck." Scyth muttered under his breath, putting a hand to his forehead.
Liffy glared at him, eyes becoming sharper—a frown on her face. Scyth grumbled in return, crossing his arms.
"The peop—"
"MACHI!" A loud voiced boomed over the talkative crowd, their voice fraying like a broken TV. The trio looked at the sound where it came—the child's ears perking up.
A tanned man with Maroon hair ran up to them, pushing through the crowd.
"Dad?"
Liffy carefully dropped the boy, letting him run up to the father. They both watched as Machi hugged him.
The boy started wailing, hugging tightly to the man. The father comforted the boy, patting his back.
The father looked up, noticing the two standing awkwardly at them. "Were you the ones who took care of my son?" He asked quietly.
"Yes sir." Scyth responded, both of his hands behind his back. His eyes closed and a tight smile on his face.
"H-how can I repay you?" He questioned, his hold on the boy loosening; straightening his posture. The man looked at them, eyes flicking in unrestrained relief.
"Money." The Bloodfiend answered instantly. Scyth looked at her as soon as she said it, eyeing her like it was a crime. His movements stilled.
"Ah, yes I can do that.." He replied, reaching into his pockets. He took out a pouch, givinng them a few copper coins.
Liffy bowed, a smile on her face. "Thank y—"
"—No need, I don't know what I'll be doing without my son." He answered back, his eyelids turning downwards.
He took Machi in his arms with a grunt, while Mashi wiped his red-rimmed eyes. With a smile and a wave, the two walked away into the crowd.
"That person did not look like Machi." Scyth piped up, a deadpan look on his face. "Also—why did you ask for money?—" He turned to face her, shaking his head.
"What if he got mad?" He continued, placing both his hands on her shoulders—shaking her slightly. "I can't handle more people getting mad at us." He said with a frown, a sharp tooth sticking out.
"Sh. I'm calculating how much things we can buy with this." She replied flatly, saying the words a little too quickly. "What... Liff, we need to save coins." He commanded.
"Yeah, will do." Nodding slowly. "Wheres the coin pouch." She stated, finally looking up to Scyth—who had his arms at his sides, lost in thought.
Liffy just raised an eyebrow, punching him lightly on the shoulder. "Don't dooze off here." She whispered. "Hm?" Scyth hummed in response. "Do you have the coin pouch on you?" She repeated, showing the coins in her palm.
He blinked, turning to his sides to search from his pockets. He searched his pockets, then his belt. He grabbed one of the pouches to find it empty—definetly not that one. He took off another pouch hanging off his belt, it was filled with gems. They should sell that.
He searched, and didn't find it. Returning to the first one, he realized.
"We need to get more coins, gosh." He blurted out, closing his eyes and looking up. Liffy took the pouch, deflating like a ballon when she saw the contents. Nothing at all.
She put the copper coins she had into the empty pouch. "We need a job." Liffy grumbled. Pushing back the pouch to Scyth.
.
.
They walked on, again. Silence following their steps—a comfortable one.
What job is the most suitable for us..? Scyth thought.
We could always just ask some people if we could do some jobs for them, but Liffy would complain.. I coul— Scyth got interrupted by a nudge.
"Why don't we just apply at the Adventurer's club??" Liffy suggested. "They have some fun quests we could do." She stated.
Scyth turned to look at Liffy, he was baring his canines—a smile on his face. "You're right, liff you're a genius." He said, holding her shoulders again. "Let's go find it." He declared quietly, his tailing every-so-slightly wagging.
"We should retreat home." Liffy sighed. "We should relax, because my legs are sore!" She complained, her hair stuck to her face, sweat dripped.
They had been—like all other times when they were trying to find something, searching for an absurd amount of time. It's at this point that the sun is now hours from setting.
"Liff, that's the club, right?" Scyth inquired, pointing towards a modest building.
It looked more clean than the other houses made out of bricks and masonry, with the occasional wood and lumber for their porch. It had a big sign indicating it was the club they were looking for.
"Can't you read?" Scyth raised an eyebrow to the question. "Yes. Just that, I needed to make sure..." He trailed off.
"Let's enter." Both of them said.
"Hah! We both said it at the same time!" Liffy jokes, shoulders coming in sync with her laughs. "Just. Let's go inside." Scyth ordered, crossing his arms over his chest.
Liffy came in first, opening both of the large doors with practiced ease; drawing unwanted attention to the Bloodfiend and Merucuian. The laughter and clinking of mugs stopped, making Scyth pause—waiting for all eyes to linger elsewhere; the bloodfiend had already made up her mind with the job, hauling Scyth with her, they gathered at the front desk where a rabbit-hybrid was stationed at.
"Greetings you two!" The purple-hair rabbit said. "What brings you here at the Palacìa's adventure club?" She happily began. "Are you new around here?" The rabbit smiled with her teeth, the two front teeth sticking out.
"We are here to register for the Adventurer's position." Scyth replied, stoic in his expression. "You think you can do it as quickly as you can?" Liffy added, her tail thumping againts the wooden floorboards. "Of course, do you have any identifications?" She asked, already holding a brush.

"Let's do this D-ranked quest." The merucuian suggested. Grabbing the yellowed paper off the cork board. "That is a good amount of coins for a D quest.?" Liffy examines the paper, narrowing her eyes as she pulled it closer to her face. "Oh well, I'm doing this for you." She shrugged, heading for the front desk.
"You two have picked out a quest?" Julianne Asked, one of her ears twitched. "Yea, this D level one." Liffy replied, hands on her hips as one of her hand reached out to place the paper infront of the Rabbit.
"Yes, know where we can find these boars?" Liffy asked confidently, having done these a million times in her long lifespan.
"Of course, ma'am" she pointed the map on her desk, showing the way into the nearby forest that is full of all kinds of animals.
Scyth nodded along, taking every bit of information.
"You go here, where one of the gates resides. It's one of the most safest paths due to the heavy guarding, so it's guaranteed to be free of any monsters."
'hey violet hair, you fucking suck.'
"That's mean." They murmered, putting their head down on the
ir desks. Papers surrounding his face.
They looked up, playing with the pen in his hand, sighing they started reading again, fixing their glasses.
'When can I begin world domination.' she asked, her thoughts going unnoticed by her vessel. 'Bitch.' she grumbled.
