Chapter Text
It had gotten late, dinner long since eaten. Nyx had found the stranger an extra set of pajamas for the other to wear, they are not quite as oversized on her as on their owner. Nxy is seated in her armchair while Kim’dael settles in for the night on the couch, her legs under a wool blanket and a pillow behind her back. She looks at least slightly relaxed for the first time since Nyx picked her up off the mountain earlier in the night, and sips her fourth cup of tea as they sit in the silence. It is only broken when Kim’dael, still staring a thousand yards past the wall ahead of her, asks “Why did you bother stopping for me.”
Her voice is quiet but confident and causes Nyx’s head to snap directly to her. For an awkward moment she just stares before incredulity responding “Or what, leave you to die out there? These conditions would kill a person and you were hardly geared up.”
The other woman shakes her head and casually replies “Yeah, I would have died out there, but why did you actually stop and help rather than ignore me and not have to deal with all this..?”
With a deep sigh Nxy reigns in her reaction before responding “Not sure what your used to, but we do try to help each other around here. It’s hard enough living as is, the last thing you want is someone else kicking you down as well.”
“Very well, what do I owe you in return?” The question caught Nyx off guard, in spite of it being a reasonable response.
“Just stick with me, gets lonely otherwise.” Her mouth asnweres before her mind catches up. Her mind catches up right as Kim’dael’s expression starts to change, stammering “No, not like that, like, uh.”
“Real successful love life huh?”
“Well I mean, not really but seems you kinda already got that…” Nyx trails off “It’s better than it looks though, I’m just not really looking.”
“I will simply take your word at face value.”
“You do that.” Face now red and dignity throughly gone Nyx continues “Well I did mean to ask if you wanted to bunk here. That is if you are even sticking around.
“I don’t have many other options, so I guess I’ll put up with your back flirting for now.” Kim’dael responds, before falling back into the couch with a sigh. Folding her arms behind her head she continues. “And with my housing secured, I am going to sleep.”
“I wasn't even flirting.” Nyx returns.
“It was close enough by my terms.” Kim’dael responds as she rolls onto her side. “Now I’m going to sleep so leave me be.”
“Well sleep well then roomate, I’m up past my bedtime for you anyways.” With that she crossed the room turning off the lights before climbing to her own sleeping nook, a simple cutout in one wall with a matress.
As she lays in the dark sleep does not find her quickly, being met instead by thoughts of soft pink lips and sharp red eyes. It is her beautiful fantasy, and she holds it close as she drifts off to sleep, knowing it’s nothing more than a sweet lullaby.
