Chapter Text
AccountingStudent!Nanami Headcanons.
ଳ The first thing to note about AccountingStudent!Nanami is that he is not nearly as stoic as people think. Sure, he's career-oriented, and he takes his degree very seriously, but when he's alone with you, he's like a normal smitten college student. He isn't against frat parties or going out for drinks; he would just prefer that his work is complete first.
ଳ The second thing to note is that AccountingStudent!Nanami would never let his partner plan a date. It isn't some patriarchal act; he couldn't care less about being a strong alpha male. He just likes spoiling you.
ଳ AccoutingStudent!Nanami learned pretty early into your relationship that you didn't enjoy going out for meals. It wasn't that you disliked eating, because some of your favourite moments were sharing food with the blonde; it was the atmosphere that put you off more. The crowded restaurants, speaking to waiters and needing to communicate your thoughts whenever you were asked for opinions, the constant movement of strangers around you, and worst of all, the food options.
Nanami had made the mistake of taking you to a restaurant for your second date, and the restaurant hadn't served any of your safety meals. He'd watched as you played with the tablecloth, picked at your food, and given short and quiet answers to his questions. Never again, he had decided in that moment, would he take you to a place that dulled your sparkle.
So from then on, dinner dates took a different approach. Nanami would cook for you. Your safety foods at first, and then slowly, new foods. Foods with similar textures to your favourites. If you liked buttered noodles and also liked pasta with smooth sauces, he would make you his fettuccini chicken alfredo. If you liked spicier foods, he would make a curry. He learned that you didn't like dumplings of any sort, so he started trying to find alternatives. His kitchen became your safe place to try new foods.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami buys you plushies instead of flowers. Flowers die, and then the sentiment is gone. He doesn't mind having to replace the flowers; that wasn't the issue. It was the sad pout on your face every time the last flower died. At first, he started pressing flowers for you, and you loved them, but he found that in your scattered room, they would get lost. He didn't blame you, not for a minute; he just found an alternative.
Sea life plushies.
They matched the decor of your room perfectly, and they were never neglected, each one joining your ongoing cycle of which plushie you would sleep with each night.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami bought two annual passes to the aquarium after your first date.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami knows that you don't dress for the weather appropriately. You'll often insist that you aren't cold and then later complain that you're freezing, standing in your miniskirt and camisole in the middle of winter, shivering as he hands you his coat. So, of course, Nanami began carrying a spare hoodie with him everywhere. Initially, he only did it if he was with you, but soon it became a habit, and suddenly he was carrying a hoodie every time he left his apartment. If he saw you on campus while you were walking to your separate lectures, he would stop to ask if you needed it. He'd help you into it, zip it up, and press a light kiss to your forehead before letting you carry on your walk to your lecture.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami is big on hugs. He loves them. Having you in his arms, safe, where he can see you and feel you breathing. But he knows that you aren't always in the mood. When you aren't in the mood, he'll spray your perfume on the collar of his shirt so that he can still feel you near. Gojo called him whipped once, and the blonde man had simply shrugged and replied: "I can't love my partner?"
When you are in the mood for hugs, Nanami is waiting eagerly. His arms envelope you, and his fingertips draw mindless circles on your back until you melt. If you've had a bad day, he'll squeeze you; he'd read somewhere that compression can help autistic people, and he loves knowing that he can help you in that way.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami loves showing you off. In his eyes, you are the perfect person, so why wouldn't he want to show you off? He doesn't care about being a simp or being whipped. He doesn't buy into the 'men should be cold and distant to their partners' ideology. He didn't want to be seen as better than you. He wanted to lift you up and hold you to the highest regard, just as you did to him. You were his equal in every single way, and he made sure that people knew it.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami takes everything slow for you. You were honest from the beginning about your apprehension of sex, and he told you it didn't matter. You told him that you didn't feel comfortable kissing in public, so he saves that for when you're alone. But when you want to cling to him, even around his flatmates, he lets you. He encourages it, his hands find their place on your waist as he allows you to latch onto him like a monkey to a tree.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami body doubles with you. He knows that you're smart, your grades prove it, but he also knows that everything distracts you. It's like you thrive off of procrastination. So he sits opposite you in the library. He works silently for thirty minutes before taking a ten-minute break, and eventually, he'll notice you falling into the same rhythm. Your grades improve while you're his partner, not because you've gotten smarter, but because you're now able to concentrate long enough to finish an essay in one sitting when all of your ideas are fresh and cohesive.
ଳAccountingStudent!Nanami replaced all of the lightbulbs in his flat with warmer-toned ones after you made a one-off comment to Gojo about how they were assaulting your retinas.
Autistic!Reader Headcanons
ଳAutistic!Reader helps Nanami to plan his essays. Nanami was the smartest man you'd ever met, but his essay writing process stressed you out beyond belief. Paper everywhere, random, unimportant phrases highlighted, no real structure, just a man and his notes ready to write. You were not having any of it. You emailed him your plan template the first time that you studied together and sat next to him to help him fit his ideas into the relevant boxes. Now, essays that formerly took him four hours take him one at most.
ଳAutistic!Reader is a little touch-averse. You hate holding hands - how do you even decide whose arm has to sit at an awkward angle anyway? You like forehead kisses but not ones on your cheek. You like his hands on your waist but never your hips. Even a single wrong touch can lead you to withdraw completely. But Nanami doesn't mind. He's patient as he makes mental notes on what to do and what not to do with you. If he makes a mistake once (like his fingers pulling in your hair as he runs his fingers through it), he makes sure to do it right the next time (like brushing your hair with your brush before playing with it).
ଳAutistic!Reader dresses very comfortably around Nanami. In public, it's miniskirts and camisoles, legwarmers and Mary Janes. Whatever is trending is what you're wearing. You think that your desire to follow trends comes from your desperate need to mask and fit in as a child. But around Nanami, you live in joggers and hoodies. Loose clothes with the tags cut out, nothing scratchy, nothing that could negatively affect you in any way. Nanami doesn't care. You could be wearing Vivienne Westwood or Primark clothes, and he'd still think you're the most gorgeous woman in the room.
ଳAutistic!Reader is surprisingly very good friends with Gojo. You'd met him at a fresher's event in the first year of university, and he'd taken you under his wing. He was still loud and energetic with you, but marginally less so. He'd tell jokes and try to annoy you, but his voice softened and lowered to a quieter volume. Nanami hadn't noticed how close the two of you were until you got distracted one night. You'd left Nanami's room to grab a glass of water, and ten minutes later, you still weren't back. Nanami had crept downstairs and peered into the kitchen, only to find Gojo making awful fish jokes to make you laugh while you drank your water.
ଳAutistic!Reader's favourite film is Shark Tale. I will not be expanding on this, it is one of the best films ever made.
ଳAutistic!Reader gives Nanami little gifts like a crow. If you've walked across campus and seen an especially round stone, you collect it to give to Nanami. An old penny that you'd found on the ground that was created in 1972, given to Nanami. A rubber duck keychain that you won at an arcade, gifted to Nanami. Some random piece of paper with random doodles, handed to him like treasure. He kept all of them of course, in their own special shrine on his bedside table. Every so often more things would show up there, more small gifts from your journey from your flat to his.
