Darker Yet Darker In A Sea Of Darkshine

Chapter Text

Your name is—

"IM READY IM READY IM READY!"

You grimaced as your quirk/sister shook around the room like an animal stuck in a sugar rush. You immediately grabbed her, somehow, making her whine. "Dark Shadow, do not fret over entering a horizon of the unknown,” you declared. “It is reckless to act like what you do right now.”

"But both of us already KNOW what will happen!” Dark Shadow exclaimed. “Go to school, beat the shit out of some low-grade villains, and maybe we could beat up HIGHER villains!"

You sighed to yourself. “That is not the point."

"Kids!” Your mother called out from outside of your room, glancing at you in your UA uniform. “Fumikage-san, put her down!”

“She was about to destroy our own room,” you lied.

“Am not!” Dark Shadow deflected.

“You would,” you argued. You glanced at your mom laughing nervously, putting her hands together.

“Anyways,” she started. “Kids, are you prepared?” She suddenly widened her eyes, going like “Oh!” She immediately sprinted back to the kitchen, before returning with a clone of herself. Said replica absentmindedly handed you a bag with something aromatic coming out of it. You sniffed it for a moment, before glancing at her.

“Sushi?” You asked.

“Indeed,” she answered, as she dispelled her clone. “Anyways, again! Are you two prepared to enter UA?” She inquired again.

You simply nodded, saying, "As prepared as I always am, mother of mine.”

"FUCK YES!" You cringed at Dark Shadow just being Dark Shadow, but at least your mother was able to be overjoyed by her enthusiasm.

"That’s the spirit!” You mom grinned. “Now be safe and don’t go beating up random people, okay?” She paused for a moment. “Unless you need to defend yourself!"

“I will promise that.”

You two started to walk out of your room and into the front door. As you were about to open the door, you saw her looking at you with a knowing look. A part of you…don’t want to give her a hug, but you grimaced as you don’t want to disappoint her.

At least she won’t be an ass like those before.

You mom was startled as you clutched her back, hugging her toughly. “Strong one, kid!” She exclaimed, as you pulled out of her. "Now, go, go! Plus Ultra and all that! Make us proud!"

Dark Shadow waved as you opened the door. "Goodbye, mom!"

"Do not get too sappy,” you told her. “We still have her later."

"You’re a bummer as always..." Dark Shadow mock-frowned.

"That is at fault of your own actions of trying to nab my spot at the bed."

'face the consequences type shit'

'Is this literally a healthy sibling rivalry???'

'Maybe.'

‘Let’s just go, guys.’ You sighed as you glanced at the open sunlight of daytime. The breeze is fresh, the chatter is all around, and it’s another new day of being Tokoyami.

Time to start it.

The train ride, as always, was intriguing to you, even if you are getting used to it at this point. For all the problems Japan has, its technological advancements are still prime; or, maybe, BNHA's Japan is prime. Well, either is a possibility because of All Might and all the other Pro Heroes...although you are still confused by the former hero's schemes.

You saw an article detailing the Pro Hero’s sudden exploits, such as establishing a short-lived team called the “Peacekeepers of Smash”. It wasn’t elaborated on how or why he made the group, but you took note of some members from it: Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Sir Nighteye, and Wash, amongst others. You have a feeling he gathered them all for an enemy the public wasn’t made aware of - and honestly? He has a point.

Besides that, though, you lost interest with the other parts of the articles, although you did bookmarked it on your phone, just in case you will return some day to take care of it.

“Entering…UA Area…”

You looked up, and took a deep breath. Alright, calm down Fumi. This is a new day. You are just going to mind your own business, maybe try to break up Midoriya and Bakugo, and do all of the hero stuff. That’s all, and that’s fine.

Anything more dangerous is for future you to go through.

The train stopped, and as some people you recognized to be wearing various uniforms UA has for its students get out, you started to follow them, hiding your phone within your own bag. As you were passing by, you suddenly bumped into someone, making you almost fall to the ground. Instead, you only feel air behind you.

“I’m so sorry!” You felt someone reach out your arm, before you got yanked back into standing up. Disoriented, you shook your head to see the identity of your mysterious savior. One of her arms was outstretched and grabbing onto your own, clutching as hard as possible. Her expression was genuinely worried, yet haunting. Most of all, her other arm was occupied by some packages, possibly from delivery or groceries.

Blond, twin buns, large, toothy…smile…

…and red eyes.

“I-uhh…” Fucking HIMIKO TOGA started to stutter a bit. “I’m sorry for that one, sir! I didn’t know you were coming up my way!”

You simply smiled with your beak. You dusted your body, before glancing at her. “Your mistake was inconsequential. The darkness does not consider you worth holding a grudge on.”

She tilted her head. “I…don’t get it.”

You nodded a bit, although you internally cringed at yourself. “What I mean is, you are forgiven. I have no qualms with holding a grudge against you, miss…?”

“Himiko Toga!” She covered her mouth. “I don’t think I’m supposed to introduce myself that fast…”

You only shook your head. “Fumikage Tokoyami," you introduced yourself. "Nice to meet your acquaintance, Toga-chan. But, alas, I have to hurry to my educational institute."

You stepped beside her, weaving her goodbye - and internally thanking yourself that Dark Shadow wasn’t here to make it more awkward.

‘HEY!’ Dark Shadow screamed in your mind. ‘Why didn’t you pay attention to the fact you met an LoV member!’

You ignored her as you got out of the train, and immediately weaved through the crowd as you got outside of the station. You only sent an indirect confirmation to her about how that is not the same Toga you knew, and she shouldn’t be a form of worry at this point.

…hopefully. You are aware of some non-villain!Toga fanon ideas, and you worried for her state if she wasn’t constantly feeding on people. But, you had no choice but to leave her be for now.

Okay, maybe you were a bit too blunt and fast for her at that time.

But, for now, school!

“Hold on, bird man.”

Fuck.

You froze, hearing a familiar voice behind you. You turned around, and tried not to react in fear or squeeing at seeing Kuroiro again. ‘Dear gog,’ you thought, trying not to facepalm yourself. ‘What is wrong with me?’

He was currently wearing his typical uniform, which is also...what you're wearing. His hands shoved into his pockets, and he's clearly trying to look impressive. “Good to see you here, Fumikage,” he greeted. “Our rivalry of darkness and shadows shall finally commence in physical form.”

You chuckled dryly. “Good luck committing such things while our homeroom teachers watch over us like eagle eyes.”

He rolled his eyes, starting to follow you into UA's buildings. “We don’t have to fight to prove our honor through hands and quirks. In fact, mere poetry or more verbal defenses shall be a decent substitute, won’t it?”

“Perhaps I could accept that compromise,” you agree, before glancing at the hallways you two are now in. "See you soon, Kuroiro. May your Homeroom Teacher have mercy on you." You were sure that your character isn't one of the people Aizawa-sensei would criticize for (because you are not a significant person), but he's still terrifying. He reminds you of them.

He only chuckled at you. "You sound like you had faced the wrath of your homeroom already. Tell me, are you a coward?"

"No," you replied bluntly. "I just want to be sure." You waved again as you two started to split paths. "Farewell for now."

You were writing in your notebook about details you will do for the future. You had arrived earlier than you expected yourself to be, although people like Iida are already in the room. You chose not to interact with the students already here, let alone the students that are arriving. You felt that something was...off, but it might have had to do more with your status than anything about them.

Freak.

Why were you thinking of it again?

You heard the bell ringing. Everyone went silent as you heard the doors slide open, a familiar and sickly form emerging from it. You only raised your head to watch All Might march into the room, ending up standing on top of the podium. He’s wearing that one yellow outfit, and you couldn’t care about any more details.

What you cared for, however, was a theory that was sitting deep in your own mind. 'Wonder why he was here instead of Aizawa,' you thought. 'Was he unusually sick this time? At least it's a fresh reprieve compared to what I know of canon.'

'...not that everything else I've known from digging around the Internet proved anything that suggests that canon even exists.'

“Good morning,” All Might declared. “My name is Toshinori Yagi. Seven years ago, I killed All For One.”

You felt tension around the class, and in yourself with Dark Shadow looming under your seat. You motioned to her for her voice to keep quiet as All Might raised his hand.

“I understand that this information may come as a surprise to you." All Might appeared to be somewhat pensive. "Thirty years ago to the day, I was in your shoes, waking up in a world that was completely alien to me and trying to fill the footsteps left behind by the symbol of peace.” All Might gave you all a small smile. “I can’t say that I’ve done enough, but I’ve done the best I can. I understand that you all have many questions, but before I answer them, I want all of you to know one thing: I promise, you will not be alone in this unfamiliar world. I will be here for you.”

What...what does he mean by that?

Shit, does he know?

There's more of you?!

He looked over at everyone before asking, “Now. Any questions?”

Immediately, you saw Bakugo’s hand shot into the air. “Excuse me, sir. What the fuck?”

And Bakugo’s question led to a floodgates of a lot of people asking All Might about details of his exploits. Some had asked about the circumstances of various villains from canon. You already suspect that some of them had disbanded, weakened, or are in shambles, if your mere encounter with Toga said anything about this world. Others asked about his exploits, which one in specific which you cannot remember well, considering how so many of them are talking to each other.

And then, someone finally asked the right question.

“What about One For All?” Uraraka asked. The room fell into consuming silence as you laid your head into your arms on the table. “You didn’t give it to Midoriya, did you?” She asked again.

All Might smiled sadly, and was about to elaborate. However, nobody can keep their mouths shut for once as chatters return again.

“Everyone’s so loud…” You murmured, wincing at the noises getting louder. Someone asked if Togata got his quirk, or if he didn’t want to give Midoriya One for All.

Honestly…you can agree with some of them who brought that into question. Specifically, the Midoriya detail. You knew that it was by chance, by compassion, or some sort of spark between All Might and Midoriya which led to the latter becoming the 9th User of One for All. In a more logical standpoint, notwithstanding the detail about what if quirkless users vs quirked people got One for All, someone who was primed for training like Toogata is meant for the job.

But, still…something’s off -

Yaoyorozu suddenly used an air horn, blaring it at the crowd. You felt Dark Shadow herself squirm at the loudness, before everything went quiet. As soon as that happened, she (Yaoyorozu) put down her air horn. A part of you calmed down at her taking the lead.

‘Thank goodness,’ you thought.

“Everyone! Please!” She pleaded. “Let Mr. Yagi answer us one at a time!”

“Thank you, Young Yaoyorozu.” All Might adjusted his tie, before continuing onto this impromptu QnA session. “Now, not to repeat myself, but what do you all want to know?”

Sero raised his hand before inquiring, “Can you start from the top, please?”

You facepalmed. That was already redundant, although considering how distracted everyone got, it was not…unreasonable, either.

“Very well.” All Might prepared to explain. “As I mentioned, thirty years ago, I awoke in this world in the body of Toshinori Yagi, just as he returned to Japan. With little else to do, I dedicated myself to ridding this world of All For One. Together with some of the other great heroes of the era—Endeavor, Best Jeanist, Sir Nighteye, and Wash, amongst others—we assembled a team. The Peacekeepers of Smash, as you may know.”

He sighed nostalgically, with a faint smile on his lips. “It wasn’t a lasting partnership, unfortunately, but we eventually managed to defeat All For One once and for all. Though it was a hard battle, as you can likely tell by my appearance.”

You tried not to react as he showed everyone his scars. You were shocked at not being…unnerved at seeing his injuries at his right side, either from just expecting it or not thinking it was grotesque enough. As the rest of your classmates murmured to each other - you decided not to discuss details if you already know of it, before All Might continued.

“Regardless…” he chuckled. “I did my best, but three years ago…I wasn’t strong enough. During a raid in cooperation with the HPSC, the remnants of All For One’s organization struck. Dozens of heroes and villains were injected with a form of the drug known as trigger, causing their quirks to go berserk as a modified Nomu attacked me. I fought, and I won, but…”

He paused for a moment, his breath audible. “I fell. The Symbol of Peace was no more.” Something in his eyes proved that that title was metaphorically dead. “I’ve remained the Number One hero since then, but the title hasn’t carried the same weight that it once did. International villains are beginning to move into Japan, the criminal underworld is gaining more power, and I…I can’t do enough to stop it. Not on my own.”

He shook his head, declaring, “But those are my sins, not yours. You are the next generation, all of you,” he said. “Please, learn from this old man’s mistakes. This world is your future. It is up to all of you to seize it.”

You nodded along with him. ‘But it’s because of him that we have to face more unknowns!’ Someone else yelled in your headspace.

‘It was another thing we cannot control,’ another retorted. ‘Would you want to bring the sins you made to a world you transmigrated into towards another victim of the circumstance that led you here in the first place?’

‘...no…’

‘D### has a point, little one,’ a third voice explained. ‘Don’t blame All Might. We can’t have any more hate in our hearts.’

“With that said,” All Might spoke up. “What other questions do you have for me?”

A short pause happened before Kirishima raised his hand. “What’s up with the League of Villains? Shigaraki and the bunch?”

“Good question, young Kirishima. Many of the future members of the League I’ve been unable to locate, even with Principal Nedzu’s help. However, after defeating All For One, I was able to locate Shigaraki—Tenko—and help him learn to live life as, well, a normal civilian. He’s in university right now, actually, here in Mustafu.”

You agreed. Good, good. You should probably mention Toga’s case, and the fact you met her…maybe later?

‘Would she even consent if you ratted out her home life?’ One of your voices asked you.

‘Should we ask for people’s consent when we are saving them from a horrible life and letting their abusers know that?’ You retorted. ‘Yes, she doesn’t know what we know of her past. But would you rat out someone’s abusive parents even if it’s the only support system they have?’

‘Maybe it wasn’t as bad as you thought it was!’

‘...I should doubt my own complacency more,’ was the only answer you gave.

Kaminari raised his hand. “How did we…How did we appear here? Why us?”

‘By fate.’ ‘But even we believe the concept of predestined fate is a lie.’

‘By a curse.’ ‘A blessing.’ ‘Something else entirely.’

‘Our time is not up yet.’ ‘Maybe we are on borrowed time.’

‘Perhaps we need to pave our own path.’

‘...or maybe we are not real and everything is meant for endings that never come to pass.’ You thought. ‘Not a good thought, though. Fuck.’

“I have to admit, that’s something that I’m not certain of myself,” All Might answered. “As far as I’m aware, between one moment and the next, I appeared here in All Might’s body, and I haven’t been able to discern how to get back—or if there even is a way back.”

“Does that mean everyone here is like us?” Jirou asked. “Is that what’s happening?”

All Might held his hands out when he declared, “For the most part, it seems that way. However, I must admit that I’m not sure if that applies to all of you, so if you are confused about anything that we’ve discussed today…well, first of all, my apologies, and feel free to seek me or your classmates out after class for further details. For now, just know that you’ll still receive a normal education at U.A., and I assure you that none of this should impact your experience here.”

You shook your head. Your memories of your past life as Dusk is…blurry…but even if life is a story, even if circumstances are like this, something that doesn’t belong is something to look out for. Whoever you saw being suspicious, then maybe you can…

‘We are not fearmongering them.’

‘Aww.’

‘Still, we now know Kaminari and maybe Jirou are like us?’

Sero raised his hand. “What about Overhaul and the Shie Hissaikai? Or the other villains that featured in the movies? Are they in jail or are they free?”

“Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to weed out the majority of them,” All Might explained. “But worry not: I have my ear close to the ground for any signs of them and they’ll be defeated as soon as they show their faces.”

All Might nodded one more time as the entire room went silent. “Anything else before we begin homeroom, then?”

Uraraka inquired, “One For All, what did you do with it?”

All Might sighed heavily, before tapping his heart. “It’s with me, still, and it’ll stay with me for the rest of my natural life. With All For One dead, I don’t intend to pass it on.”

You noticed the silence around you before All Might clapped to attempt at livening up the classroom. You can see his face being strained. “Well! That’s enough doom and gloom for today, I believe. We still have a lot to get through, after all. First up: you all need to introduce yourselves to each other, do you not? Even if some of you already know each other…”

Ashido came first, and if it were for you from the future to appear here, both of you already hated her for some reason. "Helloooo to all you players and NPCs out there! I'm Mina Ashido now, reincarnated to win this world-saving game we're in! My blood type is AB, I'm from Chiba, and I can't wait for us to give all the bad guys a co-op beat down!" she pumped her fist into the air like a rockstar before stepping down.

“Thank you, Young Ashido.” All Might glanced at someone. “Young Aoyama, why don’t you go next, and we can go seat by seat afterwards, perhaps?”

Aoyama nodded at All Might, before the latter answered again. “And if you need guidance, Young Aoyama: please give us your name, if you’re a reincarnation, your quirk, and a fun fact about yourself, or whatever information you see fit to give us.”

Ashido grinned guiltily. “Did I go out of order? Oops!”

You facepalmed in your own mind.

Bon.” Aoyama smiled. “My name is Yuga Aoyama, and as far as I’m aware, I am not a reincarnation. My quirk is Naval Laser—it allows me to fire lasers from my navel, bien sûr. A fun fact about me is that I was born in France and emigrated only when I was four. Because of this, French remains my first language, oui?”

“Very good. Now, since Young Ashido has already gone, Young Asui?”

The introductions continued, some denoting their SI status, some not doing it. Some seemed to be a case of people like you, which is fusion. Others have either the originals, or an inverse with the isekaiee instead, being in a ghost situation. There were even some unusual situations, such as Shoji being himself but his quirk, Dupli-Arms, being manned by the isekaiee. Memory situations are also different, varying levels of retained memories from the local of this world, from the isekaiee, and knowledge of the franchise notwithstanding.

You finally have your time as you stand up, eyeing everyone. "My name is Fumikage Tokoyami, raven of the Tokoyami clan.” You started, not letting your mind laugh at your ‘edginess’ like a peanut gallery. “My quirk is Dark Shadow, my sister in darkness, and I enjoy things that no longer exist. Meeting people like you and me will not be entirely a bad predicament, but as the darkness collects, we will be waiting in the dark. Be warned, I may be a reincarnator like you, but my allegiance is with the shadows of my family."

‘Okay, edgelord.’

‘Shut.’

Dark Shadow suddenly spoke up, "My name is Dark Shadow, and we like men and murder!"

You facepalmed, instinctively slapping her on the head. You have to be serious! "She is…merely joking, worry not. Besides obsolete interest, we do enjoy Vocaloid. Our encounter with each other would have been so much worse, so…be warned."

You sat down, your attention within your own mind. ‘What the fuck, Dark Shadow?!’

‘What?’ Dark Shadow shrugged in headspace. ‘That’s true, isn’t it?!’

Way more introductions later (and you taking note of every single detail), All Might finally spoke up. “Well, those were very lovely introductions. I’m also looking forward to getting to work with you this year, and hopefully for the years to come after. For now, though, we still have some one more item of business before I can dismiss you for the day.”

His hand reached under the podium and pulls out a high-tech softball, which he tosses up and down. Your eyes glinted at knowing what it entails. “As many of you might have guessed: it’s time to establish a baseline for your abilities. You’ll each find a set of gym uniforms in the middle compartment in your desk.” He tossed the ball one more time, catching it with a sense of finality.

“It’s time for the Quirk Assessment Test.”

“Woo! Let’s do it!” Ashido cheered.

“Alright! I’ll take ya all on!” Kirishima seemed to be enthusiastic.

“Just try it, Red Hair, we’ll beatcha up!” Liam, which you don’t think any of you would get used to anytime soon, jeered through Shoji’s tentacles. “C’mon, Mezo, let’s crush ‘em into the ground!”

Shoji gave his quirk a disapproving look. “Please ignore him. I don’t wish to compete with all of you.” He paused for a while. “Well, maybe I do a little.”

Liam splitted into a grin. “Ohhh, you guys have messed with the wrong dynamic duo!”

‘I wanna fight him now!’ Dark Shadow exclaimed.

‘Nope.’

All Might smiled at everyone’s…enthusiasm, or a lack of showing enthusiasm, thereof. “I love the spirit of competition, Young Shoji and Young Liam! But hold your horses, everyone; before I dismiss you all to get changed, does anyone have any questions?”

He spotted Midoriya and called on the kid. “Are we allowed to use Support Items?” He asked.

All Might thought for a second, before he shook his head at him. “Not for this exam. This is meant to measure your baseline, after all; not the baseline of the items you can bring.” Once he noticed Midoriya’s silent nod, he called out with, “If that’s all? …very well! You can put your uniforms in your lockers, which are labeled with your class and seat numbers in the locker room. I’ll see you at the training field just outside our classroom.”

He gestured in a certain direction, and into the field. “You’re all dismissed!”

"Great, you’re all here."

You started to stretch your arms as All Might explained everything to all 20 of you in the field. "Now, as I mentioned in the classroom, you and your classmates are going to be running through a series of standard gym tests you may have done in the past. Only this time, you’ll be able to perform each of them while using your quirk."

All Might brought out the same softball from before, tossing it up a bit higher than usual. "Given how not everyone is equally familiar with their new abilities, you should consider this as the perfect opportunity to get used to your powers…"

You tensed as All Might bulked up, Dark Shadow squawking at his presence. The Pro Hero managed to catch the falling ball with such strength that you swore there was a breeze that came alongside it. Meanwhile, your other classmates are in awe of varying degrees at his appearance - and, honestly, that's a fair expression. Your sense of emotions and desire to maintain your edgelord reputation kept you from reacting in the same way as they did.

"...just as I once did." All Might finished.

Kirishima pumped his fist, his hair completely unaffected by the sudden wind. "Awesome!"

All Might let out a small cough as he started to deflate. "Well then, any volunteers for a quick practical example?"

Shoji's tentaclines whined, saying, "Aw, c’mon, stay buff for a bit longer!"

"Are you oblivious?" Iida chastised him. "Why should he strain himself for something so meaningless? He’ll need all the power he can muster for when All For One doubtless returns and orchestrates an entire take over of the Japanese pediatric industry!"

Bakugo walked forward as he appeared to be quite...confident about his actions. Your supposed train of thought about AfO's persistence was cut off as he spoke out loud. "I’ll show you all how it’s done."

He was about to act when Ashido pulled him back at the collar. You were baffled at her actions, and especially with her next moves. "Don’t be boring, you already got to do it in the show!" She exclaimed. "Let someone else go right now!"

Bakugo glanced at her confusedly. "…But I want to."

Ojiro stepped up instead, taking a breath. "A simple throw shan’t be very difficult for my prodigious might."

Ah, so he's really that edgy. Man, same.

Sero snickered beside him. "Dude," he said.

"What?" Ojiro asked.

Sero answered with, "Just…dude. Chuunibyou, much?"

Ojiro sighed. "It’s not exactly my idea."

You only glanced at him with a knowing and affirmative look. "We commend your dedication, Ojiro." Meanwhile, you noticed Sato raising his hand up, when Uraraka suddenly interrupted everyone else. She raised up her hand, already walking ahead.

"I’ll go!"

All Might replied enthusiastically. "Alright! So, Young Uraraka." He passed onto her the ball, which she fumbled with ever so slightly, before he faced all of you in the field. "What she’s going to do is a simple ball throw with her Zero Gravity quirk applied to it!" He whispered something to Uraraka about the whole set-up, and even if you couldn't really hear what he was saying to her, it might had to do with her quirk's...properties.

'I think her ball floated into space...?' You thought to yourself.

All Might flashed a grin as Uraraka agreed to what he was talking about, walking to the throwing spot. Hagakure then approached him, her invisible body motioning at him and Koda hiding behind her...which was a hilarious scene, not gonna lie. "Um, excuse me, Yagi, sir," she murmured. "My friend here is wondering if you’re going to suggest expelling one of us like some Aizawa person would’ve."

"Good question," All Might admitted. "But no, I won’t. All of you proved your worth a month ago at the entrance exam, fair and square!"

Shoji's tentacles spoke again. "Isn’t that kinda lame? There should be some sort of risk. Oh! Or a prize! Something to make it more exciting!"

All Might stroked his chin as he considered that. "A reward sounds intriguing, perhaps…"

Kaminari raised his hand. "Uh, what about some ice cream after class?"

All Might agreed to his idea, and most of you started cheering. Some hollered for the promise of ice cream, while others started suggesting other awards. You also noted someone asking if that can also include All Might-related merch, which was...hilarious by the bit. You said your own one-liners, you spoke alongside all of them...but not everyone appeared to be happy with this sort of arrangement.

You reacted as Todoroki suddenly took the ball from Uraraka's hands, and quite rudely, in fact. He manifested a pillar of ice from his legs, and with that, he ended up throwing the ball at a very distant point, even before All Might could notice he was already doing it at all.

"This is serious business." Todoroki melted the miniature iceberg he had manifested. "If you need some sort of prize to focus, then you should just leave. The rest of you, you’d better stop acting like children before you put any real lives at risk."

You scoffed at his attitude. Isn't this the same guy who has that whole superiority bullshit? Soemthing something Force or such? Honestly, the person who took over Todoroki was way ruder than you thought he would be. Sure, juvenile whimsy can be destructive at times, or can interrupt actual progress of life. But...

This guy is just oh-so fun at parties, and you're sure of it. Not to mention, it's quite...painfully funny how Force is much more like Endeavor than Todoroki would ever be...

AND HIM.

...no, at least this guy has no reason to hurt you beyond combat.

"What was my distance?" Todoroki asked.

All Might coughed, looking at his phone. "435.6 meters, Young Force."

He adjusted his tie as he saw Todoroki and Uraraka march back into your group. "Well done, Young Force. And while you’re correct that hero work is serious business, it doesn’t always have to be. You’re still teenagers, after all." You nodded at his statement. "There’s time for fun and games and there’s time for serious work. For today, well..." He smiled. "You will need to take it seriously…if you want to win that ice cream and poster."

The entire class started cheering again as you covered your ears, All Might continuing his speech. "Now, with that impressive demonstration from your classmate, it’s time to start the Quirk Assessment Test properly! The first event on the list is a simple 50-meter dash, with…Young Yaoyorozu and Young Tokoyami. Let’s head over to the track and I’ll explain further."

You widened as you glanced at Yaoyorozu. Oh, damn..

You almost feel like you're gonna die.

Maybe you should had worked out more...or at all. Maybe you should had tried hard enough. Maybe you should had deployed Dark Shadow more.

But...it's too late.

Your stats aren't that high and mightily impressive. Yaoyorozu had gotten passed you in the 50m Dash, you had been flimsy with the Side Steps, you lost stamina that quickly in the long distance run, and you aren't that flexible much to begin with.

Shit. Don't panic, please don't panic.

"Are you okay?" Dark Shadow asked worriedly, as you just finished your sit-ups - the last activity of the QAT.

You only glanced at her with a neutral look, trying not to let your emotions flare up. "I'm...I'm fine." You got up, wiping your own sweat. "Nothing to worry about. We should simply train harder for this case."

"Don't lie to me!" Dark Shadow suddenly exclaimed, pressing your face into her arm-like formations. "I could feel your true feelings, you know? And I know that you're thinking back into being a failure again! We shouldn't be competing here, bro!"

You only laughed anxiously. "Yea....yea. Apologies for that."

"No need to apologize!" Dark Shadow seemed happier now. "Let's be better than that Force guy and go on with our OWN LIVES!"

You raised a brow. "Why?" You glanced at him, who seemed to be dissatisfied as he stood up. Or...something like that. You could not tell. "What's wrong with him?"

"You already know why!" Dark Shadow whined. "He's stuck-up, and I was utterly DISAPPOINTED at what you described what Todoroki would be like, compared to him! I really wanna ragebait him, but how can I ragebait THAT GUY?!"

Ojiro, who was your sit-ups partner, looked at you two with a confused expression. "What are you two talking about?"

"None of ya business!" Dark Shadow was about to quip some more, before All Might blew a whistle on everyone. The former was shocked by the whistle that she immediately retreated back to you, making you only feel awkward at her outburst.

"And that’s a wrap on our final exam!" All Might cheered. "Well done, everyone. I saw some truly impressive times today."

Many people cheered, with two of your own classmates threatening the other to a match of their own. But you only ignored it at the mere fact you still don't feel...adequate.

"…that was not enough," you murmured.

Dark Shadow popped up, angrily. "Awww, don’t ruin the mood!"

All Might then cleared his throat, removing you from your train of thought. "If I may have your attention for a few moments longer?" All of you went silent. "Thank you. Now, I won’t leave you in too much suspense about your final scores, so here they are..."

He clicked on some device, and a holographic projection appeared in the air. It appeared to be some sort of glorified spreadsheets and ranking list, with all of your names and pictures on the screen, alongside numbers and such. Then...you looked at your own score.

Fumikage Tokoyami - 9th.

"See?!" Dark Shadow cheered. "We did good! We only seemed to be lower because the rest are try-hards!"

You let out a small laugh. "Perhaps that was the case." You peered into your classmates talking to each other about their own experiences, wanting to be challenged, and so much more. You...clutched onto your chest, your expression souring a bit. Everyone...was talking to each other, having their own friend groups at this point. Having someone to talk to, and such things of love and friendship.

Two things which you lacked.

It's because you're on your damn phone.

Fuck you. It's not your fault that you haven't encountered any of them.

Your thoughts get interrupted, again, with Todoroki coughing. "Mr. Yagi, can we just get on with it?" He asked.

All Might stammered, before he talked again. "I - very well; far be it from me to curb your enthusiasm, but I’m sure some of you have places to be and don’t want to just chit chat all day. Now, Young Yaoyorozu, as you can tell, you are our winner! I’ll get the poster and ice cream for you after class tomorrow. As for everyone else, well done, and I’m looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. I hope you have a wonderful day and I truly hope that you enjoy your time here at U.A."

He paused for a second, looking over the class, before nodding.

"You’re all dismissed."

You noticed that Todoroki/Balin (the fuck do you call HIM) immediately left the place, making you frown at him. Everyone started to chatter at each other again, talking about their own plans for the rest of the day.

Ashido clapped her hands and held them high in the air. “Hell yeah! Day one: complete!”

Sero grinned, putting his hands behind his head. “You can say that again. Good work on that assessment, everyone.”

Yaoyorozu commented, “Yes, well done indeed. Like I said, it was very impressive seeing what everyone can already do; I’m quite looking forward to growing alongside all of you.”

‘Y-yeah, you guys were all super cool!” Uraraka spoke out loud. “It was really fun, too!”

Violeta nodded at a certain greenhead. “You did particularly well even without a quirk, Midoriya.”

Midoriya…doesn’t seem to have processed the complement well. “Ah. Thanks.”

Violeta stumbled upon her words as she was trying to complement Midoriya, when Iida suddenly interrupted their conversation. “Don’t worry about it too much. He’ll be fine once All For One uses Overhaul to resurrect himself into a city-killing Kaijiu and All Might gives One For All to Midoriya since only someone quirkless can pilot the giant mech that Nedzu’s hidden under U.A.”

Bakugo remarked, “The hell are you on about?”

“The truth.”

All of y’all literally stared at Iida. Look, you suspected that canon is off-the-rails now…but this?!

Man, he’s insane.

“We like you,” you said, grinning.

“Anyways,” Sero said, “is anyone doing anything after this? Anyone want to stop by the arcade or something? Karaoke?”

You glanced at him, hesitating to speak. You only decided to say instead: “Unless we are invited, we have zero obligations to come.”

Yaoyorozu stared at Midoriya (man, what a weird dynamic) and shook her head. “I’ve already got plans, I believe. Would it be possible to reschedule after school tomorrow?”

Sero nodded at her. “Yeah, I should be able to do that.”

Kaminari stopped dead, realizing something. “Oh, we should make a group chat! Quick, what’s everyone’s number?”

You immediately pulled out your phone from your bag, before showing him your number like it was a weirdly-sized picture frame. He squinted as he took note of your phone number, before you pulled your phone back.

After a few minutes, Kaminari finished off. “Alright, and… sent!” You felt your phone buzz on your hands. “Someone needs to get Force’s number, but I think that’s everyone else? Oh, and Bakugo, but I’ve already got his number so I can just add him.”

Yaoyorozu nodded. “If I’ve counted correctly that should make twenty, yes.”

All of you reached the locker rooms, with you grabbing anything you needed to take from there. A silent, pregnant pause occurred, before Midoriya spoke up. “Well, it was very nice to meet you guys today!” He gave a slight bow. “I’m looking forward to working with all of you as heroes.”

Sato grinned, crossing his arms. “Same here, Midoriya, and that goes for the rest of you, too. Let’s learn to be heroes together, yeah?”

Ojiro cheered. “Of course!” He sighed. “So long as the fates decree it thus.”

“No idea what that means, but heck yeah!” Kirisihima pointed out.

Uraraka then glanced at everyone, saying, “See you guys tomorrow!”

“À demain!” You almost forgot about Aoyama’s presence, despite his literal quirk, as he struck a pose and left.

“Goodbye, everyone!” Yaoyorozu declared. You only waved goodbye at her, before sighing as you made your way back home.
