Chapter Text

The Great War had just ended. However, peace was fragile. Currently, European nations are watching each other extremely carefully as if a lever releasing eternal chaos could switch at any moment. Conflict is around the corner, so the government of Britain decided to assimilate a plan.

This is where Agent Sovereign comes into play.

Agent Sovereign has carried out countless missions, some minor, some extremely dangerous that the military couldn't even handle. He handles all missions with ease. Taking out a couple of thugs? Simple. Nothing is too hard for him.

Hence why this file shocked him.

“Let's see here… eh…secure a a family within seven days?”

“Okay.”

“SECURE A FAMILY IN SEVEN DAYS? WHAT AM I?! A BLOODY GOD?!”

Sovereign was stunned. What did they expect him to do?! How do they expect him to do such…

Oh.

He’s yelling.

“My sincerest apologies.” He said softly, sitting back in his seat. He looked around on the train, families, kids laughing, couples holding hands and soft kisses. “Right… I know why I do this. So people may exist alongside each other in peace.” He whispered to himself, licking his finger and turning the page.

Sovereign sighed and took a glance out the window. Why does he even agree to this stuff?...

Oh.

He's got it.

To ensure a happy, loving environment amongst Britain.

(Small timeskip)

As he arrived off the train, he first went to see his informant. Antonio Fernandez Carriedo. He recently moved to Britain from Spain, but not new to being an informant.

“Well, here you go. Your new name’s Arthur. Arthur Kirkland.” Said Antonio, sliding his “ID” across the table. “Thanks, Toni. Say, know of any orphanages nearby?”  Antonio blinked.

He scratched his chin, thinking of anything. He then had a lightbulb moment, and lit up. “If you go down that street right there, there's an orphanage. A bit sketchy looking, sure, but that's probably the only place you’llt find around here.” Arthur grabbed his ID and walked off. “Well then, thank you.”

“Hey!! What about a,”

“Wow Toni!! You sure are the greatest Spaniard I have ever met!”

“That would be a huge lie.”

“Damn you, Kirkland! Your whole job is lying!”

—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The first thing Sovereign needed was a house. A good one.

“Well sir, this apartment is for sure fit for a family!” The man said. Sovereign inspected every corner of the place, wiping dust onto his finger and moving his fingers in a motion that made the dust fall off slowly in the sunlight. “Say, do you have a little girl or a little boy?” Sovereign looked up and blinked.

“Guess we'll find out soon.

—--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sovereign, or now, Arthur, looked up at the door. The place was half falling apart… Why wasn't this place shut down already?... As he opened the door and looked down the hallway, children lined the hallways. Malnourished. Tired. Wanting. Wanting love and care. He’d be lying if he didn't feel bad for all of them. The head of the orphanage, a clear drunk, walked in front of him.

“Heyyy… looking to adopt…?” Said the man drunkenly. “Yes. Me and my wi-”

“Cool… nobody cares.”

Wow.

Rude.

Put that beside you, sovereign! You are a spy on a mission. There are important things at hand.

“Me and my wife would like a child that can at least read and write.” As soon as Arthur said that, the man lit up. “I’ve got you a real prize here! Look, her name is Amelia.”

I can finally get this weirdo off of my hands…

Thought the man.

Arthur looked down at her. She had short, blonde hair. Two little star hair clips, rather cute. She had gorgeous ocean blue eyes, and had a small, worn out little alien plush along with a black dress with one white bow at the top.

She looks no older than four or five… she won't do. The requirement is six.

“I’m six.”

“Hm?”

“I’m six!”

Wow, it's like she almost read his mind. She immediately answered his question and he didn't even ask! Maybe he can give her a crossword puzzle.

Amelia went and grabbed the puzzle. See, the thing is, Amelia is different from other kids. She lost her mother as a baby, and eventually ended up in a lab facility in New York. Due to many experiments, she can now read minds. But if Arthur knew, what if he doesn't adopt her?!

“That's easy for a spy like me. But for a little girl, it's practically useless. She won't solve it. That one is metamorphosis, then that's prosecution, and that's punishment, and–”

A SPY?!

Woah…

Thought Amelia.

She quickly copied down the answers in a rush, reading his mind and writing it down. “I'm done.” Arthur blinked. How… How did she do that?!

“Well sir,” Arthur began. “I think I’ll have her.”
