Melancholy Bloom

Chapter 3: Rest

Chapter Text

Her mind went back to the thought of Fishie’s eyes when she was caught. The furniture she carried from her back nearly tilted sideways when she misplaced her footing when she saw his eyes turn red. That hint of vibrant red that was always dull, until that moment.

“Seems you're having memory issues alongside the pain coming back” Rafayel mumbled after he rushed to her side to help her.

Ms. Hunter's breath was caught before mumbling in agreement.

“Seems so…”

She knew he was mad. The thought of her being more hurt then he wanted pained him. She knew it hurt him further when she lied, and told him to leave for his exhibition this morning. Rafayel was always right, unfortunately so. Last night the passion of trying to prove something was nothing, but a waning pain now.

The relief she got from the shower last night became a craving while she eased to sit up. She knew that she needed a medical device, but-

And, that was the issue. She believed that she had to push through the pain because that's what she was told. There was no option to have a mobility aid other then a numbing cream that felt like it was burning along the pain. It didn't matter because the pain was never meant to grow with her. It was meant to stay contained, and she was supposed to be allowed to push herself everyday. To train for hours on end, pushing mission after mission, and feel free.

She was lost then ever, and she knew she Rafayel would tell Zane himself after he came home. She just didn't want to think about that now. Knowing that it was only time before she sees that vibrant red glow in his eye filled with worried.

Ms. Hunter softly pressed her hands against the doorframe, and arched her spine. She cherished the relief before pulling herself up. Her legs quivered trying to settle her spine in a position that didn't hurt, but standing was different then walking.

Ms. Hunter remembered how her leg pain simmered against the hot water. The pain softly dragged along, almost becoming distorted. Pain that felt like it was barely touching the skin, almost floated around her, while she laid there. Her hand dragged along the tub before it accepted its fate into the water. The slow descent before softly sighing.

Rafayel had knocked on the bathroom door before he came to help her up. He settled her down on the chair before she softly tugged on the towel in his hand before he tugged back. She softly smiled reminiscing while she tried to focus on walking.

Her body leaned against the walls getting used to walking in pain. She wobbled about knowing a mobility aid would be helpful now, before her left leg carelessly leaned against the wall. Her other leg intrinsically moved despite being blocked, almost making her fall to the floor.

Ms. Hunter has never been thankful that they hadn't moved her flower table away from the hallway.

She slouched over, feeling the twist finally winning over before she pulled herself up. She hated each time it won because it stole something from her each time. Ms. Hunter allowed herself to know this pain too well. She knew it left her vulnerable when battling, yet she hoped one day it would just leave.

Maybe she will overcome this. Her mind was still blinded by delusions of her faith, yet the words of her mother rang in her mind.

Her hands clung to the wall while she adjusted herself again to walk. Ms. Hunter was also thankful that they settled their bedroom on the first floor. The second, and third floors were hardly decorated, but Rafayel decided that the guest rooms would be there.

It had left her mind truly, how big this home was. The living room was the size of her first parent’s home, then she turned the corner. Ms. Hunter found herself in the kitchen basking in the rays of the sun coming through the window.

She softly opened the fridge picking out a cold torta that had been saved before heating it on the stove. Ms. Hunter settled herself down slowly on a chair next to the stove. She carefully turned wrapping the torta in tin foil before settling it down on the comal

Notes:

In light of my own recent pain flare up because of my own hubris of thinking that i was above my own pain. Nope!

I was in fact in pain for 2 week, and couldn't walk properly without looking like a bend stick. I'm better now, but i wrote this as a comfort fic to deal with the pain.
