Chapter Text
Stretch POV:
I land onto the couch, the pillows beneath me soften the blow. I look to check if the human’s still awake, to no surprise at all they’re out like a light mumbling to themselves about something I can’t understand. The memory of them from a couple nights ago is still fresh in my mind. How would they think of me if they knew what I was doing? The thought of never seeing them again made a pit in my stomach. Red and Classic were too busy arguing about something I didn’t care enough about as the human kept giggling about something.
“WHAT IS THAT.”
Everyone stops talking. The entire room focuses on Edge who was staring down at the human, towering over them with what I could only describe as disgust.
“BROTHER. WHY IS THERE A HUMAN WENCH IN OUR HOUSE?!!” Edge starts to walk closer towards me and the human. On instinct I tighten my grip on them. I don’t want him to waste our only chance at returning home.
“Wait boss! It’s not what it looks like I swear! We only need to interrogate them for a while. We’ll have them gone by the morning I promise!” I look to Red, the poor guy looks like a kid getting caught with his hands in the cookie jar. Serves him right. Although, I can’t also help the feeling of guilt as the human cradled in my arms turns on their side, still mumbling about something in their sleep. This was a terrible idea.
“Give them to me.” I look up to find Edge glaring down at me, hand outstretched as he grimaced down at me.
“Why would I do that?” I answer, returning his glare as I lean back, if I hold them any tighter they might wake up. I’m not exactly keen on explaining everything to a drunk human.
“I’ll make it quick. They’ll be dead before they hit the ground” Edge says it with confidence although I heavily doubt that he’ll be so benevolent.
“We haven’t even started the interrogation yet.”
“I DONT CARE. LETS GET IT OVER WITH.” I use both my legs to push Edge away from the human. It barely moves him but it sets both him and Red off by a mile.
“Why you little shit-”
“HOW. DARE. YOU...” Edge grabs the collar of my hoodie staring straight into my sockets. He can’t even hold his temper for one second. Somewhere out of the corner of my eye I can see Sans try to calm down Red. Great, I gotta deal with Skeletor alone. I open my mouth to reply but the commotion wakes up the human. They stir in my lap as they yawn. Shit.
“Bones? Is that you..?”
The whole room turns silent in a second. I can feel my body go cold. Edge let’s go of me as we all stare down at the human who had just turned over and fallen back asleep.
“No fucking way.” Red is the first to speak wide eyed, a trickle of sweat drips down his skull as he shoves classic off of him. Classic looks as if he’s seen a ghost. Edge well, Edge is standing there. And I’m pretty sure my mouth is agape. The human just called Edge Bones.
Oh god. It really is them.
This can’t be happening. Out of all the humans we could’ve kidnapped it had to be them.
“There’s absolutely no way, it could just be a common mistake. A lot of humans' first thoughts on us are bones anyways. Cmon boss, just take their soul and get on with it.” Red tries to brush it off but we all know that he’s bluffing. Not even Red is willing to risk it.
“No.” Edge leaves no room for debate. He snatches the human from my grasp before I can even process it.
“Get Off.” He orders. I can’t think of something to say right now so I silently teleport to the beanbag on the other side.
Edge places them down on the couch. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him be that gentle before.
“You All Go To Bed, I’ll Keep Watch Over Them Tonight.” Edge kept his back turned to us just, watching them. Classic looked like he had something to say but ultimately decided to teleport away. Red opting to do the same.
I take one last glance at the human before following suit.
(Reader) pov:
When you first arrived in the dream world you notice that Bones wasn’t around. You were put in an art gallery. Every turn I took was an empty room. You didn’t notice how empty everything seemed without him. You kept searching and searching for him through the halls only to be met with walls and walls of paintings. You felt your stomach sink in. Was he really gone? Just like that? The thought of never seeing him again made your eyes watery.
All of a sudden you’re transported to another dream. The sudden change left you stirring. In this dream you were lying down on something, from your blurry vision you could make out tall, white bones, and…yelling? Is that him?
“Bones is that you?” You called out. Everything stopped moving. Bones seems to back away from whatever he was doing. For a second, you can make out his face. Sharp teeth and…a scar..? A wave of relief washes over you when you realize he’s wearing the black silk pajamas you see him in from time to time. You can feel the silly smile plastered on your face, a quiet sigh leaves your lips before you feel your eyes getting heavier. Wait! You don’t wanna leave him yet. You start to shift forward before another dream takes its place.
You end up in a waiting room, the walls are painted in a childlike manner, hills, rainbows, and flowers decorate the room. The chairs seem to be made of pastel plastic. There are two doors on each side of the small room. You don’t get up to open any of them. He’s gone. You look around the room to see if you can’t spot him. With no luck you sit back in the chair and just wait.
You don’t know why you’re waiting but there’s not much else to do in the small room. You focus your eyes on the right door - you don’t realize the left door opening behind you. You jolt as a boney hand rests on your shoulder. You look up to see Bones in the same black pjs. The blur around his face has cleared up a little, you can make out the long scar on the side of his face and his sharp teeth. Your whole body relaxes, you let out a relieved sigh as you stand up. You jump to wrap him into a tight hug, he tenses for a second before giving in, wrapping his arms around you. You hold him there for a long time before the two of you finally let go. He takes your hand - softer than he usually does, falanges intertwined with yours as he reaches to open the right door.
“Wait!” The words form on the tip of your tongue but nothing comes out. It feels like you're talking into a pillow. You tug on his arm to get his attention, shaking your head.
“What if we get separated?” You mouth the words in a desperate attempt to get him to stop. You don’t know what’s gotten into you, the fear of losing him has always been at the back of your mind, everytime you close your eyes you hope and pray to find him there, scared that one day he might just disappear from your life.
Bones pauses for a second, seemingly trying to understand what you’re saying. You fear that you might’ve lost him. He turns back towards the door, then back towards you. He tightens his hold on your hand as he guides you through the door. He slowly opens the door. Behind it is a grassy field, the sky is set in a purple - pink ombré, a lone side walk greets you lit by street lamps. You and Bones walk quietly along the street. The concrete path seems to stretch on forever. You stare off into the distance, there’s not much else to do.
At some point you come across a lone poppy flower. The deep red color enchants you in a way you can’t explain. Bones comes up from behind you, plucking the flower, he slips it into the pocket of your work clothes - you forgot you had them on.
“…thanks” you mumble, you can feel your cheeks heat up from the small action.
Although he can’t hear you, Bones still nods through the blur. A crimson red seems to also form onto his cheekbones, it’s the same color as the poppy flower that was pinned to your shirt.
The rest of the walk is silent. You and Bones eventually stop at a lone bench. Bones sits down first, he looks toward you expectantly, waiting for you to join him. The two of you sit in silence as you watch the sunrise from the bench. The sun starts to shine a lot more as the sky turns lighter by the minute.
The pink takes over the night sky as clouds start to move south from the rising sun. It’s enamoring. Bones turns towards you taking a deep breath for his non existent lungs.
“I won’t leave you, I…” You snap your head towards him. He talked.
Holy shit, he talked. You’re pretty sure the shock shows on your face because Bones opts to staring over the hills.
The blur around his head reflects the beautiful pink sky. You shake yourself out of the initial shock. Closing your jaw, you wait patiently for him to finish his sentence. Breath still caught in the back of your throat.
“I promise.”
He finishes his sentence, putting his hand on top of yours. You didn’t even notice he moved it. You sit there for a long time, watching the sunset before he gets up to leave. You wave him off, not taking your eyes off of the ever rising sun. Suddenly a boney hand comes into your vision. You look at him in surprise. He’s holding out his hand, waiting for you to take it. The two of you intertwine fingers as he pulls you to your feet. You slowly make your way to the end of the path, savoring every moment you get with him like this. The farther you walk the lighter you feel. You notice flowers starting to bloom around the two of you. Beautiful poppies spawn all around the both of you. As you and Bones make your way towards the end.
The path ends at an open door, it’s too foggy to see inside but Bones lets go of your hands and beckons you to come inside. You find your feet frozen in place, scared of what could be on the other side. The cloudy inside of the door keeps you frozen in place, unable to move. You sigh in an attempt to hide your fear.
“Go on without me, I’ll catch up,” You mouth. You shoot a smile as he disappears into the fog. You hope that he's alright, a part of you nags that you should’ve gone with him but another holds you in place.
You turn your attention towards the happier things in the dream. The flowers - a beautiful scape of poppies as far as the eye can see. You kneel down to a good look at them. The colors are all different. Expanding from a Bright blue to a deep indigo and much more. You stand up to leave, facing towards the ominous other side. You close your eyes and step inside.
You wake up in an unfamiliar house. You think you're still dreaming so you pinch your cheek. Ow. No, you’re awake. You look around and panic. Where are you? Whose house is this? You try to remember what happened yesterday. You recall going to the bar with sans and meeting his cousins, that’s right. Red gave you “monster liquor” and you knocked right out. A cold sweat takes over your body as you make sure your clothes are still all on you, wiggling around. Nope, nothing feels sore but you're still scared shitless.
“I gotta find Sans,”
