Chapter Text
“11:47 pm, Becky Boxford (aka wordgirl) sits with her two average friends.” Tobey scribbled down eating whatever his mother packed him. He didn't have to worry about someone peering over since he usually ate alone. He figured everyone was just intimidated by his intellect. Or maybe they just knew that they weren't good enough to sit by him.
Tobey had been attending school more often as of late. His mother was glad to see him prioritize his education. In reality school was the last thing currently on his mind. Finding out what to do with the information of Wordgirls identity was top priority in his mind as of now. He wouldn't do anything rash yet. For now he was purely observing aside from the occasional time he helps Becky and the other ones with their math work. Hopefully if he had researched correctly then, by the end of the month Becky's friends and or becky would start to approach him unprompted. Or at least he hoped..
Tobey heard snickering approaching and switched his notes on wordgirl to his english ones. “Whatcha working on tobey?” some person swung their arm over his shoulder. “Carefulll, you know how he is.. Oh! No offense.” the over one whispered only apologizing after realizing he could hear. The first one poked Tobey's cheek “nahh, he knows we’re chill. We’re best friends, right Tobey?". Tobey grabbed his things and walked off. Those.. people… were from his english class. He didn't expect much from them. He was in mostly remedial classes due to missing most of his tests. With Remedial classes comes remedial people. He couldn’t wait to test out of that class. Everyone there didn’t have a clue about what was going on. Tobey had once seen someone cheat on a one paragraph response. Not to mention everything was something he had learnt about 2 years ago. Everyone there was idiotic. At least he could forget those second class people in his math class.
Today Tobey sat near the back in his assigned seat where he could take notes in peace. Surprisingly the back was more silent than the front of the class, for whatever the reason was he was just glad to be left alone. “12:52 pm, math class. Oddly peaceful.” he added to his observation log. He then started to work on his packet quietly, occasionally glancing at Becky's table. “Hm, Becky got up.” he mentally noted turning back to his paper before snapping up to the sound of his name. “Hey tobey? I hope it’s not asking too much but scoops, violet, and I are kinda confused on this problem and wanted to see if you could help.. Then again it's fine if not!” Becky stammered fiddling with the edge of her paper. How laughable, word girl, the hero of the city, couldn't overcome a math problem. “I suppose it wouldn’t be much trouble for a genius like me.” Tobey looked over at her paper.

With that they all huddled by Tobey. It felt nice, almost natural. Maybe his plan was working. Now that he thought about it. They were already approaching him unprompted– albeit for math work, but still! The whole thing was moving towards the most favorable possibility.
After math came his coding class, after that came science and after– oh. Nevermind that was his last class… his mother had been picking him up and dropping him off. Not for any normal reason. She thought if she left her son intended he'd go off and start another rampage. What kind of woman was afraid of her own son? Tobeys apparently. He didn't blame her. He could and would blow up at any minor issue. Even now, as he promised himself to get better he still found himself wanting to send robots people's way when they annoyed him. The only reason he hasn't was that any violence would hurt the probability of his plan succeeding.
Even though school was over Tobey had only started to work. This device would be revolutionary to his plan. As he drew up plans he found himself adding small doodles about his fantasy of getting flown over the city. Atlas, he had to focus on the issue at hand. He would have to cover up his device as old tech just so no one can recognize what he's doing. It would have to be secretive about it and.. No, that design was terrible. What if.. “Urghhh.. I'm getting rusty.” Tobey tossed his pencil away and stepped away from his work desk.
Tobey had to go to the one place that brought forth ideas even a genius like him overlooked. The library. He didn't bother taking off his goggles and just headed off. On his way over he saw a familiar face walking to presumably the same place. After pondering for a moment Tobey decided to see if they would be open to a friendly conversation “Ehrm.. hello Becky. Are you heading to the library..?”. Becky turned to her side and gave him a small smile “Tobey? Are you going to the library too?”. “I am, matter of fact , I’m going to research something to further one of my current projects.” Tobey chuckled, which in hindsight, probably made him sound suspicious.. “Projects? What exactly does that mean Tobey?" Becky took a step back and made a look that matched her accusatory tone. Ah Becky. Times like now Tobey could see the resemblance between Becky and wordgirl. Of course he didn't mind her tone. After all, he destroyed the city multiple times before. “Oh please Becky. I'm getting too old for that, you know. I have better things to do.” Tobey snorted, making himself seem above it all.
Becky was very visually surprised by Tobey. Him saying that was something she never thought would happen. “That's.. Mature of you.” she murmured astounded. Tobey took much amusement in seeing her face so flustered. “Oh stop, I’m going to blush.” he snickered, looking away one hand on his cheek and the other pretending to shoo away Becky. “Are you making fun of me?” Becky grumbled, only growing more annoyed with Tobey's laughter.
“No I'm not.” Tobey giggled. “Yes, you are.” Becky huffed. “Nuh uh.” Tobey clutched his hands together and playfully leaned towards Becky. “Yuh uh! You– urgh!!” Becky sped off to which Tobey followed, laughing till Becky couldn't handle it and let herself smile and joke with Tobey.
