Chapter Text
Okay, I was right the first time. This blows.
Even Bon is struggling to keep a cheerful mood. Will and I gave up on that about an hour ago once we’d realized we would be out here until the sun was set. I let out a noise that was a mix of shock and disgust while Anthony pumped his fist in the air, excited for the gorgeous view.
By now we had split into smaller groups (so, just me and my bunch), making this slightly more bearable but still annoying. Thank God, or whatever is really up there, for Anthony allowing us all to use his bug spray since no one else in our cabin thought to bring any. Typical.
“Yo, Coy—” I felt a hand on my upper arm. It was Anth, halting me before I tripped over a rock that was placed perfectly just for tripping. “That was close.’
I looked back at him and couldn’t help the goofy smile that spread over my face. “Aw, how observant!” I teased him in an overly sweetened sarcastic voice, even pinching his cheek. He went red…oof, good thing Will and Hanbon were busy looking at some strange bug. Me, however—I was looking at my own strange thing; Anthony.
“Well, uh, someone has to look out for you, you airhead!” He clapped back, but it lacked his regular energy.
“Right, because I’m not capable of it.”
He stared at me. A look that said ‘you know damn well that’s not what I meant’. I only smirked at him in return—it seemed to be more than enough though because that pre-existing blush rose up to his ears.
“Whatever, let’s keep moving.” Anthony turned around to call for the other half of our pod. So what if I admired the view? “If you guys make us miss the sunset, I…well, I don’t know what I’m gonna do yet but it’ll be threatening once I say it, okay?”
“Aye, aye, captain!” Hanbon joined in, back with her energetic mood at full power.
I followed behind my three friends, but my eyes seemed to permanently situate on Anthony. The way he walked—no, he strode—throughout the forest was way hot. My eyes darted around him like a fly trapped in a car. From the back of his head, to the yellow converse he sported, and his biceps…Oh, those biceps…
Coy, that’s disgusting. A little voice in my head scolded me.
I allowed myself to stare at him a bit longer, but for multiple reasons I’d ignore his sexy muscles.
…
Dude, sexy? Anthony?
Before I could even attempt to start a conversation with someone, anyone, but Anthony, he was already back at my side and rambling to me about some songs he’d been perfecting on his guitar. Apparently, he’d been getting deep into his quote unquote ‘rad’ new vinyl—Abbey Road by The Beatles. I mocked him by saying “that’s not anything new,”, but he persisted with his passionate rant. Once we were stopped for a break at a bench in the middle of the woods, he finally got to the point. Anthony was learning a song called’ Something’.
“Yeah, I’m learning ‘Something’, actually.” He had said to me as I chugged my water.
“What’s it called?” I basically breathed out the words, fatigued from the summer heat.
“Something,”
“Just tell me—I’m not playing any guessing games with you, Anthony.”
“No, it’s literally named ‘Something’.”
I give him a look before putting my water back into the pocket of my obnoxious—or as he’d stated, nerdy-looking—book bag. He looked at me like he was expecting something. Ha, ‘Something’.
“You’ll have to let me hear you sometime soon, yeah?” I said awkwardly, trying to ignore the buzzing tension between. Anthony, on the other hand, seemed to embrace the chemistry we had here.
“That was already the plan, Coy.”
Woah. That’s my name.
I guess that, like most other people, Anthony had had a lot of names in this lifetime and would continue to do so until he died or social crumbled and all words were lost…Not sure which one scares me more. But anyway, the way he said my name just sounded special, you know? Maybe I’m crazy, maybe I’m just a teenager in love, but I felt like he wanted me to notice that.
I scooted closer to him on the wooden bench, letting the world around us fade away for just a moment. “You sure you’d rather not play it for one of your little girlfriends?” I questioned him, testing the waters.
“Hm, I think I’d rather have you as my audience.”
“Right, your little boyfriend.”
Anthony’s eyes widened in a way that was probably only noticeable to me. He looked at me with eyes that almost seemed loving. Almost. His expression was similar to the one he sported while embarrassingly drunk at a party that would result in him getting driven home by Hanbon since ‘I’m not a trustworthy driver’, and Will was deathly afraid of Anthony puking in his car. I would’ve liked to take Anthony home, hold him too-close…
I was gently pulled out of my daze as an awkward laugh escaped Anthony’s mouth. He was blushing. Why was he blushing?
I placed a hand over his and he gave me a look I’d never seen on him before. He was admiring me. Loving me with his mouth slightly agape and eyes full of amazement.
He stood up and yelled for everyone to keep moving.
