Chapter Text

Purple sat at their chair, looking over every security screen. They sighed to themselves.

White’s death had been unfortunate but the way everybody acted, its like it never actually happened at all. Especially Red. Purple cringed lightly at the thought of them and shook their head, paying attention to the cameras again.

Nothing much was happening. Cyan and Black in the ore+ room together, Brown and Yellow dancing in the cafeteria. Purple liked that about those two, how they acted when nobody was near. Always a lovely pair.

Blue was in med bay, going over the scans.

“Damnit!”

Purple turned around, looking down at Lime, who stared back up at Purple.

“What’re you doing? You scared me!” Purple stated.

“Gettin’ to a different room is what!” Lime retorted, going back down. Purple watched them leave before swiveling back around.

“Damn crazy, that guy is.” Purple muttered, sighing again.

Lime appeared on the security footage, in Med Bay this time. Blue looked over, giving a wave. The two talked though Purple had no clue what they were saying, as this old rusty machine had no audio to give.

They were curious as Lime got out of the vents, though. Purple looked back over to the cafeteria camera, watching as Yellow and Brown continued their little dance, before looking back at Lime and Blue.

“Hm. I should get Orange to inquire Blue.” Purple made a mental note about that, as this was confusing.

A crazy bean, who more than once rambled about their disbelief of medicine and lies of the government, hanging out with a doctor, not to mention an attractive one at that. Even through this grainy, black and white screen, Doctor Blue still looked handsome.

Lime sat down on one of the Med Bay cots as Blue faced him. The two stared at each other, though Purple couldn’t tell if they were talking or not.

Blue walked forward, putting a hand on Lime’s cheek, their visor lifting upwards, in a type of smile. Purple watched intently, interested in this new breakthrough.

“Are they mates?” Purple questioned, watching as Blue undid their own backpack.

“…appears so. Wish I had popcorn at this moment.”

Blue’s flower, a shade of dark green, unfurled quite quickly, almost as soon as the backpack was removed. Lime looked anywhere but at Blue, until his face was cupped by the doctor.

Purple felt their face heat up. This was a private moment and here they were, watching. Intruding. But isn’t that their job to?

Lime looked away for a second again, upwards this time. They made eye contact with the security camera. Purple flinched back, feeling like Lime could see them in the room.

Lime pointed, standing up defensively. Blue looked over, realizing, quickly putting their backpack back on.

Purple quickly left the room, trying to calm themselves. What had they just done? Lime is definitely going to track them down now. Purple accepted, they were dead meat.

So caught up in their thoughts, Purple bumped right into Red, who had also been thinking.

The two stared at each other, silence.

“I—uhm… hi.” Red muttered.

“Hey.” Purple replied, still breathless. They probably looked like a complete mess right now.

“You okay?”

“Yes! Yes, I’m fine. Peachy.” Purple answered, walking past Red without another word. Red watched them walk away, before continuing in the direction they were originally going.

“Stupid, stupid…” Red muttered, wishing they could fix the tension between them and Purple. They would do anything to have them be how it was before. He shouldn’t have…

Blue walked quickly past Red, barely missing him.

“Doc?” Red called out, to no answer.

…He was the Captain. People should reply to him, not leave him standing. But what could he do?

Captain Red continued walking, passing by the security room, looking inside the open door for a moment before continuing on.

They stepped into the cafeteria, finding Yellow and Brown sitting at a table next to each other.

“You two. Start cooking lunch.” Red stated as the two got up and he took their place, sitting down.

Yellow started, chopping the vegetables. Brown kneaded the dough.

“Hey, what’s up with them?” Yellow whispered, eyeing Captain Red as they held their head in their hands.

“No clue.” Brown replied.

Everyone gathered in the cafeteria, the smell of fresh pizza like a siren to them. Purple opted to stay far away from Lime and Lime didn’t get close to Blue.

Cyan could sense the tension, though there was so much of it that they couldn’t decipher who it was coming from.

Brown set the pizza in the middle of the table before going back in to start a second.

Green and Orange took a slice, before slinking off to the corner.

“Y’know, this kids memories are just, worms. Every single one of them includes worms somehow. Pathetic.” Green muttered, taking a bite of the pizza.

“Mine’s all about work! Didn’t ever have a personal life, except once. With a partner. Kind of sad, really, this kids partner wasn’t even, like, bare minimum.”

“Don’t tell me you’re feeling sad about that chump’s memories again! I can assure you, it happens to a lot of beans!”

“…I just…I don’t know. You’ll think I’m stupid.” Orange rubbed their hand, looking away.

“Yeah, I probably will, but say it anyways. What’s up?”

“I…I don’t want to kill any of these beans. This memory all paints them in good light and it…feels like I know them. And you wouldn’t understand because you don’t have memories of any of them!” Orange added the last part with a huff.

“You make me laugh,” Green muttered, grabbing Orange’s chin with one hand, bringing them close, “On how absolutely pathetic you are.”

Orange looked away as Green let go, going back to join the others with a smiling visor. Orange followed, silently.

Lime cornered Purple in their own security room, her back to the cameras.

“What did you see!? Tell me now!” Lime demanded, somehow looking intimidating and flustered at the same time.

“I—I saw nothing!” Purple insisted, holding both hands up.

“Don’t you lie to me, you scally wag!!”

“Fine, fine! I saw Doctor Blue take off their backpack, okay!? That’s it! That’s all I saw!”

“…ya’ won’t tell nobody, right?” Lime replied, losing the fight in his voice.

“I won’t. Promise.”

“Good.” Lime replied, before jumping back into the vents.

Purple stood there, catching their breath.

Orange walked alone, looking at themself every time a window passed by them. Every memory felt so real, they didn’t know how Green did it. Maybe because the people Green knew aren’t here?

But Green should still have at least a connection with the body? Or maybe it was just Orange who thought like this. Orange stopped in front of another window, staring at themself.

“That’s me. I—I like this. This body.” Orange stated, to themself, continuing to stare. All the memories, even if it isn’t theirs, they still felt connected to in a way. Whatever it was, sad, happy, anger, it was real. Raw, pure emotion from this amongi.

They were true and honest. And Orange wanted to be just like them. They promised themself to, no matter what Green said or thought!

“What up?”

And of course, Green’s here to ruin the moment. Orange turned around, looking at Green.

“Nothing, you?” Orange replied, trying not to look disappointed.

“Eh, just thinkin’, mostly. About who to kill, y’know, the usual. Doctor Blue sounds good, right?” Green barely waited for a response, replying to their own question, “Of course it does! And don’t worry, I got it taken care of. You just…be you!” Green patted Orange’s back, walking off.

Orange looked back at the window, “Be yourself…”

Green hummed to themself, walking past security. Purple sat at the desk, normal.

Blue in med bay, still the usual layout. Brown and Yellow in cafeteria. Red in the front of the ship. Green walked back into the cafeteria, sitting at a table.

They’d have to locate Lime and make sure Orange stays clear from suspicion. If Lime were to see Green, Green thought of an argument to put against Lime. After all, Green knew he was more trustworthy. And with Orange’s information about MIRA guidelines, it’d be easy but suspicious for them to put up a big argument against an innocent.

So it wasn’t worth it.

Green sighed. After Blue it definitely had to be Lime.

Green looked up as Brown walked over, sitting next to them.

“Hey kid, how’s the trip goin’ for you?” Brown asked.

“…a little homesick if I’m being honest. But it’s also exciting to be all the way out here!” Green answered, defaulting to a cheery tone.

“That’s good! Not the homesick part but the other…you’ll get more used to being far away the more trips you go on. Took me a few trips to get used to not havin’ my sibling around!” Brown laughed lightheartedly and Green chuckled, looking over.

“Did you have any siblings?” Brown spoke up again.

“Oh, uh, yeah! I had two, actually. Charcoal and Leaf!”

“How sweet.” Brown looked over as Yellow joined them, sitting next to the other side of Green, practically squishing Green.

“Oh! Are we talkin’ about siblings? You should’ve met my sibling, they’re a wreck! Their name is Banana.”

“Remember that thing they always said?”

“I oughta get you with my spatula!” Both Brown and Yellow said, laughing.

“You too know each other since before this trip?” Green asked, looking between the two.

“I’ve known this dork since we were saplings!”

“A lot of the team has history with each other…Lime and Black went to the same public high school. Red and Purple do have history, though neither have ever said what it is exactly, and oh! Yes! Lime also knew Blue before as well, both working in the MIRA company building.”

“Didn’t Orange and Red also knew each other from work?” Yellow replied.

“Oh, I actually think Captain Red did mention that before! Just in passing though…” Green stated, getting up, “Well, I best be going! See you two later!”

Green walked off as the other two amongi waved goodbye and continued chatting.

Green walked into the oxygen room, humming again. He walked right up to the tank. Heracles swam out. Green stared at the fish for a long moment.

“You’re defenseless.” Green stated, “Alone. Do you know I could just kill you? Anybody could. You’re weak.”

Green looked over, hearing footsteps and jumped into the vent. They watched as Purple stepped in, cooing at Heracles. Green rolled his visor, crawling away.

Green started to get nervous the more they stayed in the vents. Each time they found a vent, somebody was in the room.

Green found a vent again, looking into it. Med bay. Doctor Blue was, again, looking over the scans. Green looked over at the closed door.

Very silently, Green crawled out. Blue was caught up in their work, not noticing. Green locked the door with a click noise which did catch Blue’s attention.

“Oh, Green! Hello dear! I didn’t hear you come—…in.”

Green’s body ripped itself apart, showing off the heap of pink substance, making what looked like a figure. The figure didn’t have a coherent shape, though definitely not random.

Blue dropped the papers they were holding, looking around in a panicked state.

“No, no, you’re not—that’s…Green? Please?”

“Beg.” Green stated, smiling as they got closer to Blue.

“Please, I won’t tell anybody, this could be our secret! Whatever you need, I can do it!”

“…eh. Not really satisfied. For someone as pretty as you, I thought you’d know better than promising to keep secrets. I know you’re lying.”

Blue took steps back until their backpack hit the wall, looking up at Green’s visor.

“Go on. Beg. Properly, this time.”

“No.” Blue replied.

“What? What did you just say?”

“I said no.”

Green looked taken aback, just a moment, before closing in. Blue ran towards a corner, using the wall to give them an extra bound of speed. Green spluttered, quickly following Blue.

Blue tugged at the doorknob, though remembered that Green had locked it.

Blue knew that they didn’t have enough time. Blue knew they were going to die. And in the moment, they turned to face Green one last time.

Green stuck a tentacle right into Blue’s visor, crushing it. Blue coughed, reaching up and pushing against Green’s tentacle. Green merely laughed.

“You think you’re so smart? Look at you. Can’t think if you don’t have a brain!”

Blue died, right there. Almost instantly. Green pulled out his tentacle, the entirety of Blue’s face coming with it.

“Oh, I have the perfect idea!” Green took Blue’s body and placed it upright in a standing position, facing away from the vent, “Lime’ll love this.”

Green left through the vents again, popping up in security. They walked off, humming lightly to themself.

Green watched as Lime was the one sent to check on Blue, the only one who could. Orange waited outside the Med Bay doors, ready if anything happened.

Lime shimmied through the vents, going in whatever direction they were fed by Captain Red. Which only led them to a dead end.

Purple took the layout map of the vents from Red, giving the correct ones instead.

Lime made it to Med Bay, waving at the camera. Green was the only one who waved back.

Lime carefully stepped up to Blue, calling out their name a few times, before turning Blue around.

Doctor Blue’s entire face was gone, replaced by a hole where you could see the bone and organs. Blood had stopped spilling, clotting near the edge, even hardening somewhat.

They’d been dead.

Lime flinched back but couldn’t help themselves from staring at Blue.

Everyone in the security room gasped, Purple running to the Med Bay entrance.

“Open up, Lime!” Purple shouted, though got no reply. Red rounded the corner, skidding to a halt.

“They left! Lime left the room through the vents!” Red stated, catching their breath.

“…that much running made you winded?” Purple asked as silence ensued.

“Wait—what exactly happened?” Orange spoke up, looking quite worried.

“Blue’s dead.” Purple stated, starting to walk back security, “And the only damn amongi who can get in med bay just fled! Goddamnit!” Purple punched a wall, before continuing on, grumbling to themselves.

“Christ…sorry ‘bout that, Orange. But, yeah, the Doc is dead.”

“Shouldn’t have Purple seen what happened on the security cameras? We can’t just have deaths! It’s bad looking on MIRA!”

“And on my reputation! This just feels like a nightmare. Nothing feels that, like, real anymore.” Red sighed, sitting down. Orange sat down next to them.

“Hey Red?”

“Yeah?”

“Are you okay?” Orange asked, not hesitant to ask at all.

“I—I don’t know. Sometimes it’s just, as if I’m not here. But I am. I’m right here but it’s like I’m drifting off, into space.” Red explained, wiping at his face.

“I may not understand but, I’m here for you, Red.”

“Would it be okay if I talked a bit more? About that?”

“Of course.”

“It’s just, I’m trying my best but I’m…I’m not cut out for this. At all. I keep trying and trying but I’m not getting anywhere! And I feel like I’m moving slower than—than Purple is! They act more like a leader than I could ever do and it’s just—I shouldn’t be a Captain. And then I started doing that weird spacey out thing and that’s completely thrown me off and I don’t know what it is. I just—I wish I knew what was wrong with me and fix it already.”

Orange listened, occasionally nodding or making a small hum noise in response. Red sighed again, falling silent.

“Thanks for telling me, and I won’t tell anyone about this. You’re doing great, Captain.” Orange stated, standing up and holding out a hand for Red. Red took it, standing up.

“We should go with the others.” Orange stated, taking Red’s hand again.

“Yeah. Thanks again for, uhm, listening.”

The two walked towards security, looking into the room as everyone was in there except for Lime, of course.

Green looked over as the two entered, looking down at the holding of hands before back up.

Purple was trying to find a way to rewind the tape, to see back when Blue was murdered.

“Piece of shit!” Purple banged the side of one of the monitors, “Do you see what I mean!? This shit is as useful as a trash can!” Purple turned to face Red, their angry expression staying.

“Why weren’t you here when it happened then, huh?” Red replied, taking a step forward.

“I can’t just sit here all day! I was taking a break, walking around! Stretching! Y’know, it was Blue who recommended me to do that actually!”

“Do your job correctly! I don’t care if you have to sit on your ass all day, do it!” Red reached near shouting level.

“You are so insufferable, Red! By that logic, you should sit at that wheel all fucking day! But no, you get to walk around!”

“I’m the Captain! I have to do more than just steer the ship! You don’t get it!”

Green slowly backed away, others following as they left the room.

Brown and Yellow walked back to the cafeteria, careful to not step on the blood that spilled out of Med Bay. Cyan and Black went to the storage room.

Orange and Green didn’t make it far.

“What the hell was that?” Green asked, pointing a finger at Orange’s chest.

“What was what?” Orange asked, putting both their hands up.

“Holding Red’s hand? What are you trying to do here?” Green replied, they themself grabbing both of Orange’s hands.

“Nothing! I was just—“

“Ah-ah! I don’t want to hear it, you’re killing Lime. If it doesn’t happen in the next three days, I’ll kill you myself. And no more hanging out with Red, got it?” Green interrupted, their voice having a growl to it.

“What’s Red got to do with any of this?”

“I don’t have to explain myself! Don’t hold his hand or nothin’!”

“…are you jealous?” Orange asked, finding themself now holding back a smile.

“What!? No!” Green sputtered, completely caught off guard.

“Yes you are~! You like me~!” Orange replied in a singsong voice.

“You are so annoying!…Red’s coming.” Green muttered, turning to look at the corner.

Orange turned Green’s head back, whispering “this is strictly to keep from suspicion.”

Orange clinked their visors together, as much as a kiss could do for the amongi specimens.

Red, did in fact, come across the corner, pausing at the sight of the two.

“Woah! Sorry!” Red quickly walked past, covering their visor.

The two separated instantly, mostly Green pushing Orange away. Though by Green’s flustered state, Orange felt their self smiling.

“You liked it! I can tell~!” Orange giggled, grabbing Green’s hand.

“No I did not.” Green grumbled back, though let Orange hold their hand.

Lime sat in a bigger area of the vents, one he set up to be a fully holy place. Bottles of holy water, a cross made by their wrench and toothbrush, and a star on the floor made by salt, surrounded by candles.

He also had paper, lots of it, in a stack next to the corner. And pencils, pens, and markers, all stolen from Doctor Blue’s office.

They needed to get their thoughts out. Lime knew, they knew they had to expose the aliens.

Lime formatted a plan, clumping the salt together and off to the side, making room for a layout of papers.

A weapon. They needed a weapon. They wrote that down, along with a list of materials that they had access to.

On another paper, Lime wrote two names. Green and Orange. They knew it. Didn’t really know how, but something was just off with those two. They were too close together to having been just met.

To add to that, Green and Orange are the only ones who didn’t have much of a job! They had all the free time to themselves! Lime didn’t trust them one bit.

“I’ll just…how could I show?” Lime muttered, already taking apart the homemade crucifix. They reconstructed a jug, into a water blaster and filled it with holy water. They put that to the side.

“…ah.” A thought did occur, one that Lime never would have thought if they weren’t one hundred percent sure it was Orange and Green.

They wrote the idea down, bigger than they wrote the other words they wrote.

Lime sighed, looking over at the water blaster. They knew it wouldn’t do shit. But, to put this into play, Lime knew they had to act like it did.

To pose a threat against them. And expose.

Lime left with the water blaster, careful to not break it. If Lime was wrong, nothing would happen, they’d merely splash either Orange or Green with holy water. But if they were right, Lime was ready.

‘Expose Aliens and Die Plan’ was written in big blocky letters on the paper. Right to the point.
