Chapter Text
Now sitting on the couch with Derek still a bit flustered and Avery still slightly giggling, while holding another capri-sun.
‘Avery, why are you on your fifth capri-sun?’
“Fifth?” Derek asks “I thought this was, like, your second.”
“Oh yea I kinda like these, so I'm not surprised that this is my fifth one.”
“Ok then, it's not like I can judge too much. I do have an entire mini fridge of soylent.”
“Oh?”
“Yea, but straying from this conversation, what do we do today?”
“Good question, it’s January second so I don't have to go back to work till Monday, so we can pretty much chill till monday night then i have to work.”
“Ok, should we watch a movie?”
“Yea sure! Anything in mind?”
“Not really, we could look on Netflix?”
“Oooo, could we watch a bug documentary? They’re my favourite!”
“Sure I don't see why not.” Derek says making a reach for the tv remote.
“YAY!” Avery says with joy.
“If you don’t mind me asking where do you work? You said you have to work on Monday so I was wondering.”
‘I can answer this one he works as a ba-’
“A barista! Just a barista, nothing special!”
‘That's weird’ Derek thought to himself. It was obvious that Avery was hiding something from him, but what?
Instead of asking why Avery lied Derek decided to pretend he didn't notice and continued on with their conversation while tuning on the tv and quickly moving to netflix.
“So, where do you work? I know there's a Starbucks right around the corner.”
“Yea I work there!” which wasn't a total lie Avery had worked there before getting his current job as a bartender, but Avery didn't want to tell Derek about that, he was embarrassed to have such a shameful job, at least that's what his parents called it when they would still talk.
“That's cool.” Derek says scrolling through Netflix to try and find a good documentary till he finally finds a good one about moths.
“Does this work?” Derek asks Avery, gesturing at the tv.
“Yup! I haven't actually seen this one yet!”
While watching the documentary Avery ends up moving closer to Derek, it was a small gesture at the start, but now Avery was fully snuggled into Derek, as if he was a moth himself trying to cocoon himself in Derek's body heat.
Pulling a blanket over them and turning the volume down.
Looking over at the time to see that it was only 2 pm, he took off his glasses and put them on the side table beside the couch, but before going to sleep with Avery on him he decided to ask the king something.
“Hey, hope this isn't weird or anything but would you want to come under the blankets with us? Avery seems chill enough with you and if he’s ok with it I don't see why I shouldn’t try to trust you either.”
‘Why not.’
The king responds, moving to sit beside Derek and Avery while Derek lifts up the blanket to let the king in.
‘You do not have to continue calling me the king, or the king in yellow. You may just call me Hastur’
“Ok king- I mean Hastur” Derek says, closing his eyes fully.
—- A few hours later —-
It’s now around the time of dinner and Avery was still asleep beside Hastur. Derek was in the kitchen making a box of craft dinner (mac and cheese for all you Americans) as Avery slowly stretched awake from his nap.
‘We see that you're finally awake, Avery.’ Hastur says, slowly opening eye like shadows on his face.
“Huh?” Avery, response.
Rubbing his eyes with the palm of his hand to try and wake up, Avery sits up from where he laid upon Hastur’s lap, seeing that he has gained enough power to have the slightest amount of a physical form.
“You fell asleep on me while watching the documentary. Me and Hastur decided to take a nap alongside you but I had to leave to make supper.”
“OH!” Avey exclaims, slowly turning into the shade of a very bright tomato.
“Oh, I’m so, so, so sorry! I didn't mean to fall asleep on you!”
“Hahaha” a soft chuckle came from the kitchen, cutting Avery off mid panic.
“It’s fine Avery, I really didn't mind. If anything I found it endearing.”
“Yo-you did?”
“Yes Avery.”
The blush that was on Avery's face a few moments ago began to die down to a light dusting of red on his cheeks.
“Wait, who’s Hastur?” Avery asked.
‘That would be me.’
“The king?”
“Yea, while you were asleep the king said that we may call him Hastur instead of ‘the king’ or ‘king’.”
“That’s cool.”
After Avery stood up, he then walked over to the kitchen to watch Derek finish up the mac and cheese that he was making for the two of them.
“That looks good!”
“It does? Thank you!”
“Your welcome, I can’t wait to eat, I’m actually super hungry right now.”
‘I would assume so, you have not eaten since earlier in the day, around 9:30 to 10:30, it’s not 7 pm.’
“It’s been that long?!”
‘Yes.’
“No wonder I’m hungry then” Avery responds.
“Yea, now go sit down, I'm just plating the food.”
“Ok!”
After Avery sat down, he started to kick his feet back and forth like a little kid, as Derek finally finished putting the KD in the bowls.
“Fork, or spoon,” He says, opening the cutlery drawer.
“A fork will do!”
Derek grabbed a spoon for himself and a fork for Avery and closed the drawer.
Walking over to the table he handed Avery the bowl and sat down across from him.
“Its not that glamorous, but I hope you enjoy.”
“Don’t worry, I love mac and cheese. Thanks for making dinner.”
“No problem.”
With that final sentence they both began to eat in a comfortable silence, with the king sitting beside them.
