Chapter Text
Waking up with a blaring headache and pain all throughout his body is not how Izuku imagined his Tuesday morning would be like.
Pulling himself up was painful and his head felt like it weighed a 100kg. Looking around confused for a moment he tried to remember what happened to him to feel this way.
Oh, right. That is what happened.
Standing up Izuku felt his side throb painfully. He is still in his school uniform and for a moment he is worried if there is any blood on his clothes. Looking at the time shows that he would not have enough time to actually wash his clothes.
Looking himself over in the mirror he lets out a sigh of relief. He looks fine from the outside. No bruises were visible and there was no blood on his clothes.
Pulling off his jacket and pushing up his shirt he looks at his side. He winces as he looks at the large bruise. Red, blue, and yellow come together to create a picture of pain. Moving around is painful.
‘Hiding this will be a pain’
With a sigh he checks his backpack to see if he has everything he needs for the day and leaves the apartment silently to not aggravate his mother. Another beating is not something he can deal with right now.
__________
Standing in front of his classroom, he gets ready for a long day of pretending to be fine. Putting on a smile he pushes open the door and steps inside.
“Deku! Good Morning!” Uraraka greeted him kindly.
“Good Morning!” Izuku smiled at her while also addressing Iida and Todoroki.
Walking to his seat slower than normally to ease the pain at his side. Sitting down also appears to be more difficult than he anticipated, so he lowered himself on his seat slowly. Maybe a bit too slow considering the weird look Kacchan is throwing him.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, nerd?!”
“Ahhh it’s… it’s nothing, Kacchan, really!”
“Then stop acting weird! It’s pissing me off.”
The gods must have mercy on him because he gets out of this conversation as Aizawa comes into the classroom and quickly starts the class.
____________
Shouta knew something was up with Midoriya. All throughout class he saw Midoriya subtly, or at least trying to be subtle, squirming in his seat. While it isn’t unusual for him to be restless and moving around this looks different. This wasn’t a product of too much energy or finding a topic exciting. No, he was shuffling in his seat because he is uncomfortable.
At the start of the year Midoriya was always nervous and anxious in his class, so he can easily recognise the behaviour, however he hasn’t done this in a while, due to warming up with his class. Going back to this is therefore concerning to say the least.
Not wanting to jump to conclusions Shouta decided to further watch the kid.
Later in the day during heroics class he found the issue easily. Watching Midoriya spar with Iida showed him moving more carefully, which in its self isn’t a problem, but seeing the pained look every once in a while made Shouta sure of what is going on.
The kid is injured.
The question now is how. When he brought Midoriya home last night he didn’t look injured or to be in pain. He surely would have noticed. So this must have happened afterwards. Maybe on his way to school? No, if he got injured on his way here the kid would have looked like he got hurt. Some dirt on his clothes or some wrinkles.
So it must have happened during the night. Maybe he went out again after his mother left to go wherever she needed to go? It was a possibility, but something in his gut told him that this wasn’t the case. Being a pro for so long taught him to always listen to his gut feeling, so how did this happen?
“Midoriya, stay back for a moment.”
Shouta can see the slight panic in the kids face and not for the first time that day he asks himself what exactly is wrong with this child.
After the other students leave the training ground to change out of their costumes Midoriya approaches him wearily.
“You wanted to speak with me, sensei?” Midoriya practically whispers.
Letting out a sigh Shouta speaks: “Yes, I noticed some odd behaviour today during not only homeroom but also during this class. You seem to favour your right side and you shift your weight around a lot. Additionally I can see your face scrunch up when you move too fast. So, tell me problem child, are you hurt?”
“No, sensei! I’m not! I’m not sure what you saw but believe me everything is fine!”
The lie is so obvious that even the dense man that All Might is could have noticed it. He really needs to teach this kid to lie better.
“Midoriya, I don’t know why you want to hide your injury but you can’t fool me. I will ask you once and I expect the truth, understand? Where are you hurt and how did that happen because I know for a fact you weren’t injured when I brought you home last night.”
Shouta can see the panic even more now. It is clear that the kid is still trying to come up with some excuse but it seems like he can’t find one.
‘Shit.’ Shouta thinks when he notices Midoriyas breaths coming in shorter and more laboured.
“Midoriya, kid, I need you to breathe. Come on breathe with me.”
Shouta slowly took Midoriyas hand into his and took long, obvious breaths. Every time he breaths in he squeezes Midoriyas hand a bit more.
‘Why is this kid so scared. Did he do something stupid? Illegal? No, non of this makes sense. What is going on with this child.’
“I’m sorry, sensei. I’m really, really sorry!”
And if this isn’t making him more concerned than he doesn’t know what would. No normal kid would apologise for a panic attack.
“Don’t apologise, Midoriya. Talk to me. What the hell is going on?”
Now noticing the tears in the Childs eyes, he feels like this will be a long, hard day.
“Sensei… I don’t know what to do…” Midoriya sobs. Clearly not ready for this conversation right now Shouta sighs.
“Okay, we can fix this. Let’s go to Recovery Girl first. She will take a look at your injuries and then we will talk, okay?”
The only sign he gets that Midoriya headed him was a small, barely noticeable nod. Laying a hand on the kids back he leads him to the infirmary.
What the hell is going on here?
