Chapter Text
Thirteen colonies was 13 now, his golden birthday, as his friend Canada had said.
Canada said they were “engaged” but thirteen just considered the other boy his friend. Canada’s mother and Thirteens father were good friends as well. Though France seemed to continuously push the two together, despite Thirteen being uncomfortable with that thought.
Anytime Russia came along with his father on a business trip Thirteen would sneak out to talk with him, infodumping all the things that had been happening, and Russia would quietly listen, staring blankly in a way that most would think was dismissive, but Thirteen knew that when Russia was actually dismissive, he would act like he cared, if he didn’t care to act that meant he was not bored.
“So me and my cousin were in the field and the squirrel just lunged at him because of all the syrup on his coat!”
“Very intriguing story.”
That was Thirteen’s cue to let the other man get a word in.
“You are twitching today, what is changed.”
Thirteen looks up to see the other boys head was tilted, white locks falling in his face.
“Just, oh I dunno… my Dad’s been upset lately anf my best friend is acting weird.”
“Am I not best friend?”
“I only see you twice a year Rossi…”
Thirteen squawks as the other boy bonks his head with a fist.
“HEY! Not fair! No hitting or I’ll tell my dad!”
Russia huffs, crossing his arms.
“You act like large baby some days.”
Thirteen pouts at the others comment.
“Whatever, at least i show emotion!”
They were interrupted by their fathers, both looking a bit annoyed.
“Thirteen Colonies. Go to your room at once, this is improper behaviour!”
British Empire glares at Russia and turns his eyes to USSR.
“You and your son should go, I’ll see you at another date.”
Thirteen sighs as he sulks up to his room, sitting by the window. Noticing something on his desk, he opens it in confusion, it’s a note signed by Russia.
“I will be coming back soon, as I must take English course as part of my education, I will be seeing you then.”
Thirteen cheers quietly, twirling around his room- excited. He only really had Canada for a friend other than Russia, so this was BIG NEWS!
As he’s cheering, he flops into his bed, looking up at the ceiling covered in star stickers, thinking of the future.
His head was filled with the brightest colors, even when his eyes closed he still only saw visions of the future. He couldn’t sleep all night.
