Chapter Text
Immediately, Katsuki found himself dodging a jagged spike of ice. The vigilante in front of him with his hand raised, quirk activated, aimed straight at him.
“Fucking hell! Chill out!” Katsuki blew the ice to pieces before it could reach him. “I helped you, asshole! I’m not another fucking villain!” The guy lowered his hand immediately, taking a couple steps backwards, seemingly analyzing his best escape route. “Stop looking at me like I’m about to attack you. You’re not a villain, you’re not worth fighting. What the hell are you doing out here anyways? Who are you?”
The pair of heterochromatic eyes narrowed at him. “I’m helping people. Why does it matter to you who I am?”
“You don’t actually look old enough to be legally licensed. You a vigilante, too?” Katsuki commented, mirroring the other’s actions.
“So what if I am?” The mask hid most of his face, “You don’t need to know anything about me.”
“I’m a vigilante. We made a good team, you don’t seem too fucking weak. So if you’re a vigilante too we can help each other. Plan shit. We’d be unbeatable.”
“Call me Freezerburn.” The heterochromatic eyes never softened, but the unfamiliar brought his right hand up and pulled his mask down.
“Call me Ground Zero.” Katsuki countered. Freezerburn looked him up and down once more, then extended a hand.
“Alright. Give me your phone.”
“What? The hell would I do that for?” Katsuki spat, stepping backwards.
“I’m going to give you my number. Don’t share it with anyone.”
“Like I have anyone to share it with anyways.” Katsuki muttered sarcastically. He handed his phone to Freezerburn, watching as he typed in his contact information. Freezerburn barely batted an eye at the short length of his contact list.
“There, text me. We’ll set up a patrol together.” And just like that, the guy took off, launched onto the rooftops by a pillar of ice.
“Weird fucking night.” Katsuki muttered. And with that he headed off towards his house.
It went on like this for several weeks. Katsuki meeting up with Freezerburn and going out on patrol. More and more the two started to talk to each other. Freezerburn sharing about how much he trained and how much he hated his father. That was really all the information he shared about himself though. The rest of the conversations the pair had were mostly about opinions on different heroes, recalling details of different fights they got into, and complaining about this and that. They never revealed much more about their personal lives and Katsuki was fine with that. It was perfect. Katsuki had never really been one for friends. He’d had a group of extras who followed him around in awe, and there used to be Deku… But that was a long time ago. Before everything. And now he didn’t want some extras riding his coattails to the top. And Deku was gone, Katsuki doubted he would ever see him again.
Then a week later, just as Katsuki was finally starting to allow himself to get attached, it happened. Freezerburn didn’t show up for their night time patrol. Katsuki sat on their usual rooftop, tapping his foot, frustrated. Usually Freezerburn was here early, not earlier than Katsuki, but earlier than the time that they’d set. After forty-five minutes of missed calls and unanswered texts the blonde finally got impatient. He pushed himself off the ledge he’d leaned against and blasted himself to the ground from the rooftop, stalking off into the street.
However, after an hour of running through the streets Katsuki was ready to give up. But then something caught his attention from an alleyway. The vigilante paused, stepping back to investigate. No one was ever in these backstreets in his experience. And yet, despite that, there was a figure lying motionless on the ground. Creeping closer, Katsuki recognized the person.
“Freezerburn?!” Katsuki rushed over, sliding to his knees beside his friend as fast as he could. He shook his shoulder, praying that he would wake up. Of course he didn’t. Checking over his friend, he discovered several bruises and burns littering his frame, some looking several days old but most of them looking brand new. “Fuck…” The vigilante muttered under his breath. He knew basic first aid. Basic wasn’t enough for this. There was blood dripping from his friend’s forehead and soaking his shirt in several places. Freezerburn was missing his usual mask and hood, actually he wasn’t even wearing a jacket. Katsuki quickly pulled off his own hoodie and wrapped it around his friend, choosing to ignore the blood that began to soak it. He could wash it later. Unable to think of any other option, Katsuki scooped up his friend and ran to the only place he knew; Aizawa’s house.
Katsuki crashed through the front door, not even bothering to take his shoes off as he rushed into the living room.
Shouta was sitting in the living room’s armchair, and immediately jumped up when he entered. “Katsuki?! What the hell is going on?! Who is-” He cut himself off as soon as he got a look at the kid in Katsuki’s arms. He got up and ran to the bathroom, grabbing the first aid kit as he called out to Present Mic, “Hizashi! Call Recovery Girl! Now!” Katsuki settled Freezerburn down onto the couch and moved back as Shouta ushered him back and out of the way. Pulling out medical supplies and immediately starting to treat the wound the boy had on his head. Next he pulled Katsuki’s hoodie off of the heterochromatic boy and started on a scrape that was still dripping blood on the kid’s arm. Shouta was too focused on treating wounds to actually focus on the kid’s identity. But once the bleeding was quelled, he paused and finally got a look at the child’s face. Duo toned bangs hanging over his eyes, light complexion, and a dark scar surrounding his left eye.
“Katsuki…” There was recognition in the pro hero’s voice. “Do you know who this is?”
“He’s my frie-” The blonde cut himself off. “He’s another vigilante. We’ve been working together. He goes by Freezerburn. I’ve never gotten his actual name.”
“Katsuki.” Shouta said seriously. “This is Shouto Todoroki. He’s the son of Endeavor, the number two pro hero.”
