Chapter Text
The call was fast and direct
“Hey, Tooru, do you have time today?”
He replied instantly
“Yeah. Why?”
“I wanna meet. School rooftop.”
“Okay.”
That was all, it barely made one minute
By the time you stepped out the door
There was nothing left
Not a hint of hesitation or reluctance
-
A gentle breeze greeted you on the cheek as you stepped out from the door to the school rooftop
He was standing there, watching the sun set with the same fascination he had as a kid
It was then that your theory became your long desired conclusion
You had liked him since you were both kids, you buried these feelings because you thought that the Tooru you knew was gone in junior high
But standing here, that belief had been disintegrated.
He was always Tooru
Your Tooru
“Tooru”
He turned around, expression softening immediately.
“Kura”
The nickname made your insides feel warm
You had missed being called Kura
Hearing it again felt…
Well it didn’t need to be described
A quiet gust of wind pushed you from the back, as though it was telling you to go on
You took a deep breath
And it all came out
“I’m really sorry for avoiding you these past few weeks, especially without saying anything.”
He cut you off
“It’s fine, I’m sorry I forced the confession on yo-“
You grabbed his hand, the way you did in the rain
The way had done it since preschool
“Don’t apologise.”
You swallowed
The words finally coming out
“Because I-“
“I like you!”
His eyes widened
Shimmering in the remnants of the sunlight
You met his eyes
Then, he reached out, hands gently caressing your cheeks
Then you nodded
Understanding his intent
You tiptoed, he leaned down
And your lips met
It felt surreal and long deserved
You reached up, cupping his cheeks without once breaking the kiss
His arms wrapped around your waist
Then you both pulled back
When you opened your eyes
Tears of joy, sadness and regret all flowed
You didn’t know why
But you just let yourself cry
Tooru pulled you into his arms as you cried into his chest
He didn’t need any words to comfort you
And you didn’t need any words to be comforted
All you needed was to be allowed to live in the reality that you had finally confessed
He rested his chin on your head as you cried
Fingers carding through your hair
This was your new reality
No,
This had always been your reality
Like the blooming flower
It had just been waiting for you to accept it
The rooftop maintained its silence
The only sound you heard was his steady heartbeat
Somewhere between heart beats
The near-silent breeze
And your soft crying
The kiss
And the embrace
The rooftop had become a small, perfect universe
In which its only inhabitants were you and him
