Chapter Text
“So um. Are you ok?” Paramedic tried to chuckle, but it just came out as a dry cough, it was probably taking everything he had not to duck out of the room in shame, any other day, surgeon would praise them for this. Not now though.
”What the fuck happened. I thought I told you to handle any hiders.” Surgeon could feel the anger bubbling up in him, but he kept calm , no use yelling over something that might not have even been Paramedic’s fault. Hiders could’ve appeared after he dealt with them.
”Well, Um… I-I didn’t have a fire extinguisher so I thought if I made them all chase me until they vanished it would work…”
Oh. It was his fault after all.
”Why didn’t you just get a fire extinguisher! It would’ve been so much quicker!?”
”Well this was faster.” Paramedic stated, he didn’t seem to see where he was wrong, or maybe he did. Surgeon was far to stressed out to be able to tell at this point.
”Y-You almost got me killed!?"
Paramedic flinched at Surgeons words, "well I didn't mean to! I thought they were all gone!"
"And you never double checked?"
Paramedic scoffed, "I already took a risk doing it that way, why would I go back?"
"Well you put me in a much bigger risk because of that! Why are you so damn careless all the time." Surgeon rasped, he felt a seedling of regret for saying that, but he easily dismissed it.
"What? I'm not that careless." Paramedic rolled his eyes.
"Really? Not to careless? Remember when you accidentally threw your coffee away so I had to give you mine when I got mine? Or maybe when you almost got a patient killed in room seven, maybe even the time you decided not to double check the god damn room and almost got me killed!?"
Paramedic's eyes widened, "your really gonna bring up all those old times, those were ages ago, and at least when I messed up in room seven I was able to save it. You clearly didn't save this though." Paramedic hissed.
Surgeon felt his chest tighten, it was an odd feeling, he wanted to say something so much worse, but he barely bit his tongue, "what makes you think your better than me."
"What?"
"You say that like your so much better than me, I messed up once, you mess up every damn day."
Paramedic rolled his eyes, "oh please, you got lucky this was an anomaly."
"Fuck off. You make a bunch of mistakes and people don't start running around calling you a bad mother. But I make one and all of a sudden I am?"
Paramedic froze, staring at Surgeon for a while, the realization hadn't hit him yet, the words that just came out of his mouth.
"What?"
Surgeon finally realized what he said and felt the color drain from his own face.
"Wait, I didn't mean it like that I just, um..."
"What did you just call me?" Paramedic stammered.
"No!" Surgeon blurted, he did but he didn't exactly mean it like that, he didn't even know what that really meant.
"What the hell does that mean?"
"I- I don't..." Surgeon hung his head in shame.
The two stood there for a while, not making a sound, before Paramedic finally mumbled something Surgeon didn't pick up on, his sanity was falling to a dangerously low number again.
"Can you bring me a coffee..." Surgeon murmured, but when he looked up Paramedic was already gone.
Surgeon opened up his lunch box he brought to work every day, it was finally his lunch break and after spending hours desperately avoiding Paramedic, he needed this. He really needed this lunch box filled to the brim with nothing but broccoli, lettuce, and tomatoes.
"Of all days to pack a salad..." Surgeon groaned, he;d rather go out and buy something. But leaving without Dr. Harlow's permission was prohibited, unless you were Secret Agent of course.
He took a bite of a tomato, any other day this would be all he needed to keep him in a good mood, but it was hard to stay positive when his sanity was stuck below 25% because the coffee machine is to slow and the entire staff kept coddling him all day. He sighed, he didn't even pack any ranch to go with his salad. He was sitting in the area with a lot of chairs, best spot for a lunch break in his opinion, especially if you don't want to be bothered, only issue is that it was right next to the check in, and Security or Secretary could glance over at any time and watch him. Or it could be Paramedic sneaking glares from inside while he waited for a coffee
Surgeon couldn't help but feel a bit angry about how everything went, he felt awful for going off on Paramedic, but he didn't exactly regret it, if anything he should be much angrier. He could've ended up in a body bag getting dragged out the hospital while Paramedic was left all alone, and forced to think about what he did. Surgeon felt his chest tighten at the thought of Paramedic being left without him. Then he realized he was thinking the wrong things.
"Damn it..." Surgeon felt his own face flush, because now all he could think about was Paramedic, it made his angrier sure, but it also made him feel even worse about the things he said to him. Surgeon sighed heavily.
Surgeon was so caught up in his own thought he didn't notice Paramedic had came around behind him, but he did notice once he felt Paramedic's arms slide around his neck and snake down his chest.
"Hey."
Surgeon's face flushed instantly, "what do you want."
"I'm sorry for everything I did and for not staying with you."
Surgeon froze at the apology, he thought he was going to have to go apologize himself. He wanted to stay angry, but the seconds he put his hands on his chest it was already over.
"It's alright, I don't mind, I'm sorry for... um."
"Calling me a bad mother?" Paramedic pressed his muzzle into Surgeon's neck, "yeah, I forgive you too."
Surgeon could feel Paramedic's breath right on his neck, he shivered at the sensation. He was somewhat disappointed in himself for folding so quickly, but it was worth it for this. Surgeon leaned his head back and kissed Paramedic's cheek, they were disturbed last time they were together, so he wanted to make up for it as well as he could.
He grabbed Paramedic by his shirt collar and brought his muzzle to his lips, sinking into each other, in a blink of an eye Paramedic already found his way onto Surgeon's leg, breaking from the kiss for only a moment before going back in, even more feverishly now. Surgeon rested his hand on Paramedic's waist, his lithe frame twitched a bit in his grasp.
Who knew how much farther they would've went if Secretary didn't bang on the window to the Check in room. Surgeon's eyes snapped open and noticed Security and Secretary could see them, along with any patients that walked in. One looked especially disgusted, Surgeon hesitated to pull off, but he eventually did. Paramedic seemed confused for a bit, before noticing everybody could see them as well.
"Oh..." Paramedic mumbled, getting up from Surgeon's lap, hesitantly of course.
Surgeon stood as well, by now everybody had stopped staring at them, it was taking everything for him not to say fuck it all and melt back into Paramedic.
"Back to work hm?" Paramedic groaned.
Surgeon could hardly meet his disappointed gaze, "hey, just wait until we get off of work okay?" He planted a kiss on Paramedic's forehead.
Paramedic blushed profusely, "promise?"
"Promise"
"Gonna be hard to work right with a promise like that y'know." Paramedic laughed as Surgeon pet him.
"Surgeon, another surgery at room eight." Secretary yelled from the check in room, Security shot Secretary a glare and he quickly added, "if you can handle it right now of course."
"I'm more than able." Surgeon puffed his chest out, feeling a bit of his pride return.
"Great, get to it then."
Surgery walked off, feeling a bit off not having Paramedic next to him, he looked back to Paramedic, who seemed to be feeling the same, but he just shot Surgeon a wink.
It was going to be hard for Surgeon to focus as well.
