The Great Crush Triangle Disaster

Chapter 7: The Endgame is Snacks

Chapter Text

By the end of the month, the triangle had evolved.

No one understood how.

Not even the children.

Permpoon no longer wanted to marry Lunar-- he just wanted to start a detective agency with her.

Lunar no longer wanted to marry Muvmuv. She declared she now wanted to make a sapphic princess comic where Muvmuv designed the dragon.

Muvmuv still liked Permpoon, but only on Tuesdays and during art class. When asked why, she said “Because he still gives me pretty stickers.”

On Fridays, she liked nobody because “love is tiring.”

The parents accepted this with relief.

Mostly.

Then Lunar announced at dinner, “I think I am sapphic but also maybe I am just seven.”

Namtan nodded with the calm of someone who had been practicing.

“You can be both.”

Film nodded and smiled at her moonbeam.

“Seven and sapphic are not enemies.”

Lunar nodded.

“Good.”

Permpoon raised his hand.

“I think I am hungry.”

Pond pointed at his son and said, “Valid identity.”

Phuwin sighed at his two bears.

Muvmuv pointed at her plate.

“I think I am rice.”

Milk nodded, “That is a beautiful journey, princess. Rice is essential. Rice is precious.”

However, Love, being the sane one, said, “Please eat the rice, not become it.”

The children and adults laughed.

After dinner, they played in the living room again.

The couch was a castle.

The coffee table was a mountain.

The rug was lava.

The laundry basket was still a spaceship prison.

This time, there was no marriage announcement.

Only a new sign taped to the basket in Lunar’s handwriting:

SPACESHIP PRISON IS SAFE FOR ALL FEELINGS.

Muvmuv had added dinosaur stickers.

Permpoon had added his precious mango stickers.

The parents stood in the doorway watching them.

Namtan leaned into Film.

“I think we did okay.”

Film kissed her temple, “We did.”

Milk looked at Love, “Our daughter invented consent stickers.”

Love smiled proudly, “She’s brilliant.”

Pond looked at Phuwin, “Our son survived his first ever mango heartbreak.”

Phuwin took his hand, “With emotional support alien and glitter pens.”

Pond sighed.

“I love Friendship Alien.”

“You cried over Friendship Alien.”

“As I should. As we should.”

In the living room, Lunar handed Muvmuv a glitter pen.

Muvmuv asked, “Friendship or crush?”

Lunar thought about it.

“Friendship today.”

Muvmuv nodded.

“Okay.”

Permpoon offered Lunar mango candy.

“Friendship mango?”

Lunar smiled, “Yes.”

Muvmuv held out the alien, “Group alien.”

Permpoon gasped, “Best kind.”

The three children sat together inside the laundry basket spaceship, eating mango candy, drawing sapphic princesses, dinosaurs, aliens, and one very dramatic cloud.

No endgame.

No heartbreak too heavy.

No story finished before it had time to grow.

Just children learning that affection could be spoken gently, refused kindly, changed freely, and held safely.

Just parents learning that sometimes intervention meant listening more than fixing.

Just a living room full of family, laughter, glitter, snacks, and feelings that did not need to become anything yet.

At seven years old, love was not a destination.

It was a mango candy offered with permission.

A bracelet accepted without pressure.

A dinosaur sticker clarified before use.

A spaceship prison safe enough for everyone.

And when Lunar looked up from her drawing and saw her mothers watching, she smiled.

“Mama, Mommy!”

Namtan and Film looked over.

Lunar held up her picture.

It showed two princesses riding a dinosaur under a rainbow.

One princess had Lunar’s curly hair.

The other had sparkly shoes.

Beside them were a boy with a mango crown and an alien wearing sunglasses.

At the top, in wobbly letters, Lunar had written:

EVERYBODY CAN LIKE WHO THEY LIKE AND STILL PLAY WITH EACH OTHER.

Namtan cried again.

Film did too this time.

Milk joined them.

Pond sniffed loudly.

Phuwin closed his eyes.

“I live with criers.”

Pond wrapped an arm around him and chuckled, “Admit it. You love us.”

Phuwin looked at the children, then at their friends, then at the ridiculous drawing held proudly in Lunar’s hands.

He smiled. “Yes,” he said softly. “I do.”

Notes:

Feeling a little bit under the weather upon seeing JuneMewnich's announcement earlier and then I saw Permpoon with PondPhuwin during their event and I realized I haven't posted my WIP involving Permpoon, Muvmuv, and Lunar so here it is! I hope you enjoy the ride :D
