Chapter Text

Kai hated the Allied Armor of Azure. It wasn't enough that Morro had Lloyd, that he had powers while the ninja didn't, that he absolutely kicked their asses. Nooo, the master of wind also had to have a way to summon other ghosts as well, as if they had the means to defeat incorporeal beings.

He looked at the aeroblade in his hand. He supposed they did now. Good. He didn't want to walk around with a water gun of all things as his weapon. The half a dozen ghosts surrounding them had been easy enough to kill, but there were two others. It seemed those two were intended to be more permanent of a company to Morro than the other ghosts were.

Morro whispered something to them before running off to chase after Ronin. Kai did not waste time, the four of them right behind the ghost possessing their friend.

If not for the drastic change in appearance, this could almost pass for a regular occurrence: the team following Lloyd as they chased after a thief. But it wasn't. It wasn't Lloyd and the only reason they were not fighting was because Morro cared for the scroll a lot more than about beating them.

"So," Morro said suddenly, looking at him. "You're Kai?"

"Uh...yes?"

"Hm, okay, I can see the resemblance."

Huh???

"Why don't you make things easy and stay back?"

"Lay off, man," Jay huffed, inserting himself between Kai and Morro. The five of them turned around the corner just in time to see Ronin dodging attacks from the two remaining ghosts. Whatever Morro was talking about, the ghost did not clarify in favor of going after the scroll.

"Guess the better ninja won!"

Morro did not fly away like Kai expected him to. Lloyd's corrupted dragon merely circled him like a vulture and for a moment Kai thought Morro was gonna stay to watch him die. It did not help his panic as even more strangleweed wrapped itself around him, it's grip not yet fatal but still painful.

And then–

"MORRO YOU ASS!"

It was a girl's voice, something about it familiar to Kai.

"Help him!"

"He's not my problem," Morro replied, almost lazily so. The wind master lay on his dragon like he had all the time in the world.

Ectoplasm blades scared the strangleweed away just in time and Kai stumbled. Unfortunately for him, there was little room on the wooden pole he was standing on and so, he fell.

He braced for impact, already dreading the feeling of water rushing over his head but it never came. A ghost had caught him, sickly green hand wrapped around his wrist. He followed it up to the now unmasked ghost girl–

Oh god.

"Hey," said his sister, like he hadn't watched her disappear beneath lava all those years ago.

Kai could not for the life of him explain what happened next. His brain pointedly refused to work and any time he tried to form a thought or evaluate his surroundings, her ghostly green face would be within sight and he shut down all over again.

He blinked. He was back on wooden boards of Stix, a hand having pushed him off the dragonback– did Morro give them a ride what the fuck?!

"Are you alright?" she asked, already by his side and looking him over for injuries. Her hands ghosted– heh, Jay would love this one– over him, hesitating to embrace him. Something in him screamed danger at the chill coming from her ectoplasm flesh, at the proximity with ghostly hands. He supposed their earlier encounter with a chain bearing ghost had shaken him more than he thought. But that wariness was hardly strong enough for him to act on. After all, how was he supposed to feel anything but unbridled love when seeing his sister's face for the first time in years?

"I bet he'd feel better if he went for a swim," Morro cackled. That was enough to snap him out of his stupor.

"Only if you go first," he snapped back, stepping forward as he did so. Nya stepped out of his way, her shoulder phasing through his as she did so.

"Kai," she said, warning in her tone clear. "C'mon, we should get going if you're okay."

"Excuse you?" Morro snapped. "We are not taking him."

"Of course not, we'll just take him home. I'll fetch him myself once we're done."

Morro refused to play taxi. The two ghosts argued about what to do with him while Kai's brain went through the painstaking process of rebooting itself.

His sister was here. Nya. Nya was here and she was a ghost and she was working with Morro, who had possessed Lloyd. Nya was here and she didn't hate him but she was on the opposite side of the battle–

"We had time for your autographs, we have time for me to explain things to him."

"I'll fetch Archer while you have your family reunion, then we're leaving," Morro compromised, looking about as willing as Kai was to let his little sister run off with the fucker. He flied away without waiting for a response and Nya sighed.

It was only once they were alone that the realization sunk in.

"First Master, Nya," he murmured, pulling his sister closer to himself. She eagerly returned the hug as though afraid he'd disappear– he was sure he was no better. "You're here."

Notes:

This is too linear, too organized /j

I should write a chapter from a completely different point in time or at least add a flashback.

FEEL FREE TO REQUEST STUFF RELATED TO THIS AU, like "how did [x] happen without Nya in s1-4" or "what happens during [y]". And also because I love Morro's character, he's having ✨️emotions✨️ and not-quite-redemption-but-similarish-thing-to-canon off-screen and then I'm forcing him and Nya back to life.

Notes:

Comments would be appreciated!

Some things from before s5 changed and I might touch upon that later, but feel free to request stuff.
