Chapter Text

Out in the main courtyard, the blaring sirens slowly began to die down into a pathetic, static whine as Jay frantically rewired his ruined prototype, loudly complaining to Cole about "phantom electrical surges." Master Wu stood a few paces back near the training lanterns, his eyes narrowed as he surveyed the area. There was no residue left behind—wind didn't leave tracks, after all—but Wu’s acute senses caught the lingering, abnormal draft whistling through the rafters. The air current was sharp, deliberate, and entirely too controlled for a natural mountain breeze. He stroked his beard thoughtfully, a quiet suspicion beginning to take root in his mind as he looked toward the eastern wing.

Ignoring the chaos he had just unleashed down the hall, Morro slipped silently back through the shoji screen of Lloyd’s bedroom. He materialized fully, his translucent form shivering slightly as the tether snapped back into its comfortable, close-range perimeter. The frantic, terrified energy radiating from Lloyd across their spiritual wire was intoxicating. Morro leaned against the bedpost, folding his arms with an arrogant, self-satisfied grin, fully expecting the Green Ninja to praise his brilliant tactical distraction.

Instead, Lloyd bolted upright from the mattress, his eyes flashing a fierce, dangerous emerald. The lighthearted bickering was entirely gone, replaced by a sudden, heavy wave of raw emotional angst. "Why did you save me?!" Lloyd demanded angrily, his voice a harsh, frantic whisper as he gripped the bedsheets. "You could have been caught, Morro! If Wu or Kai found out you left your cell, they would lock you away in a venge-stone vault forever! We wouldn't ever see each other again, and I can't bear to lose you! I can't believe you could be so careless!" His chest heaved, tears of absolute panic pricking the corners of his eyes at the mere thought of being permanently separated from the ghost.

Morro didn't flinch or offer a sharp, defensive retort. He simply stood there, his glowing eyes fixed entirely on the blonde ninja. The arrogant smirk melted into a remarkably soft, tender smile as he watched the sheer depth of Lloyd's hidden affection boil over into pure rage. The vulnerable neediness in Morro’s own chest flared up, deeply comforted by how much Lloyd actually cared. "You know..." Morro murmured softly, his voice dropping to a low, teasing purr. "You look really pretty when you're mad, Greenie."

The sudden compliment caught Lloyd completely off guard, instantly shattering his authoritative lecture. An intense, fiery blush exploded across his cheeks, darkening his face to a brilliant crimson. "Shut up," Lloyd choked out, utterly mortified. He groaned loudly and buried his burning face directly into his hands, trying frantically to hide his flustered expression from the ghost’s amused gaze.

A sudden, familiar wave of freezing, tingling energy washed over Lloyd's fingers. He looked up through his hands to find Morro sitting right beside him on the edge of the mattress. Without the scroll, the ghost couldn't exert true physical mass, but the sheer force of their malfunctioning tether allowed Morro to softly wrap his translucent fingers around Lloyd’s wrist. The cold contact was gentle, sending a thrilling shiver straight down Lloyd’s spine as Morro slowly tugged his hands away from his face.

"I'm not going anywhere," Morro whispered, his gaze locked onto Lloyd's lips. The slow-burn tension that had been building since the archive room completely broke. Guided by the tether's deep, magnetic pull, Morro leaned down, gently guiding Lloyd backward onto the mattress. As their bodies overlapped, the cold, tingling sensation of the ghost's spiritual energy blended with the radiating heat of Lloyd's body, creating a dizzying, electric spark at every point of contact.

Lloyd didn't care about the cold or the danger anymore. He reached up, his hands tangling into the spectral fabric of Morro’s shirt as he pulled the ghost down into a heavy, deeply heated makeout. The kiss was desperate and full of unvented angst, a chaotic release of all the stress, secrets, and fears they had been harboring from the rest of the family. Morro poured all of his protective, needy energy into the embrace, his lips moving against Lloyd’s with a fierce, possessive warmth that felt entirely real in the privacy of the dark.

When they finally broke apart for air, neither of them moved. Morro shifted into a tight cuddle, his ghostly arms wrapping securely around Lloyd’s waist while Lloyd buried his face into the hollow of Morro’s neck. They lay there in the quiet sanctuary of the bedroom, listening to the distant, fading voices of the other ninja down the hall. They held each other tightly, wrapped in a fragile, forbidden peace, staying locked in the heated embrace until the first gold rays of the morning sun began to filter through the shoji screens.
