Chapter Text
A lovely voice echoed into Green’s head while they were sleeping.
“…Green?”
“…Green and White…”
“Green? Wake up!”
“GREEN!”
Green jolted awake, sitting upright, taking quick breaths. They looked to their right, and Blue was standing there, looking at them with concern.
“Green! Why are you and White in a MedBay bed? Are you two alright?”
“Wh..- Hold on…”
Green looked to their left, and saw White lying peacefully beside him, still holding onto their hand.
“Be quiet, Blue… White is still sleeping.” Green rubbed the top of their head, and then rubbed their visor.
Blue gave Green a thumbs up before whispering; “Why are you guys here? What is going on? Everyone was looking for you two!” Green sighed…
“I- uhm, well…”
Green didn’t want to reveal White’s drunk night, since they would resent them for it.
“My… uhm… Bed! Yes, my bed, and their bed, we spilled crumbs on it… We were too tired to clean it up for tonight, so we just… went to Medbay instead. I’m so sorry, Blue— We’ll get out of your hair-“
“No, Green, it’s quite alright. I just wanted to make sure that you two were safe and secure, and you are free to sleep in Medbay anytime you would like.”
*Swoon…*
“Oh- aha-! T-thank you, Blue…”
“Of course. I’m going to get to work now, if you don’t mind.”
“Yes- yep… work is important…”
Green looked back over at White after Blue walked away. How did they look so good, even while sleeping? They gulped, and pondered on whether to wake them up or let them rest. Green didn’t want to wake them up, but also didn’t want to leave them alone with Blue in Medbay.
‘Or, maybe I can just take them to their own room… Hopefully that wouldn’t wake them up, hah…’
Green grabbed White by the body, slowly and carefully lifted them and carried them princess style out of Medbay. They weren’t heavy at all, to Green’s surprise. It looked like they had to go through Cafe, the most open area in the ship, to get to White’s room. Bummer…
Green snuck through the cafeteria, trying to walk as slowly as possible not to disturb White. They dodged the preinstalled cafe tables, which were arguably harder to clean under than folding ones (Green would know.) They finally met the Weapons hall, White still sound asleep in their arms. Finally, after getting through, they turned left to their destination: White’s room. Green opened the door to find a bunch of small but expensive souvenirs; about a million of the same shirt, some fancy robe, golden chains, and a polaroid of what looks to be White’s parents. Green walked over to their bed, flung down the covers, and set White down, who went limp over the mattress. Green tucked White in slowly and snuck out of the room.
This looked to be going smoothly. Atleast until Red, coming from Navigation, who also had been looking for them both, spotted Green leaving White’s room. They both eyed each other, and Green, realizing how it looks, immediately spoke.
“Captain, this is NOT what it looks like, I swear!!” Green pleaded.
“Have you been in there this whole time? You know I was looking for you! You have a job, this isn’t freaky kissy season!”
“THATSNOTWHATHAPPENEDPLEASEBELIEVEME!!” Green shut the door to White’s room and started fidgeting with their own hands.
“Then what is it, then, Green?”
“Eh- I uhm… It’s a long story and I have to go!!” Green looked away from Red before going back where they came; walking through Weapons and stopping in the Cafeteria.
The problem was, Green didn’t have anywhere to go. They didn’t even have a room. So, they decided the weirdly spacious janitorial closet would be best.
They ran down into Storage, taking a right into the Electrical hall before finding the closet.
They rushed in and slammed the door, hoping no one would find them.
Green began pacing around the room, holding the back of their head.
“I’m a horrible crewmate… I haven’t done a single task for a day straight, and I—”
Green let out a huge gasp in realization.
“I kissed White while they were DRUNK?! What kind of crewmate am I to do that? I should’ve just taken care of them—“
And then, there was a knock… on the janitorial closet door. Who knew Green was in there?
Green quickly wiped their visor clean and walked closer, dusting themselves off.
“Who’s out there?”
There was no response.
“Hello..?”
…
“Please..?”
Nothing.
Green gulped down their fear that it was an alien monster and cracked open the door. They looked through to see a familiar figure;
White was standing at the door, fidgeting with their fingers and looking away with guilt.
Green immediately slammed the door shut, followed with a “Nobody’s in here, you can go…”
White rubbed his head before turning the doorknob and looking through the crack. Green was teary-eyed and afraid to confront White face to face, hoping they would think it was a dream. White opened their mouth to speak, and Green braced themself for impact, wondering what sort of insults they would receive.
“…I knew you would be in here…”
“Huh?”
“…Thank you.”
“…What?”
“Thank you for lying for me in Medbay…”
“You were awake?”
“The whole time.”
Green got the confidence to walk a bit closer to the door, and then stopped themself.
“Do you… hate me?”
“Why would I hate you, Green?”
“Do you remember what happened?”
“…Yes. And- I’m… sorry. For that.”
“I should be the one sorry, White! I totally took advantage of you while you were drunk, and I KNEW that, and I did it anyway, and it’s all my fault and it’s okay if you don’t like me anymore, and-“
“Calm down, Intern…”
“CALM DOWN? IM A HORRIBLE CREWMATE! I DONT DESERVE TO BE ON THIS SHIP ANY-“
White pushed the door open, and pulled Green in for a hug. It immidiately shut them up.
Green let out sniffles that sent chills down White’s spine.
“You have nothing to worry about.”
“You really don’t hate me..?”
“Why would I?”
“I told you why-“
“And you think that matters?”
“Yes!”
Green pulled out of the hug, their hands still on White’s shoulders.
“I care about you and your feelings, and I knew you wouldn’t feel the same about me when you were sober, and I did it anyway-“
“You’re wrong.”
“…”
“Listen, I’m not good with all these… ‘feelings’ and stuff- but, uhm… I really do like you, Green…”
“You do?”
“Well- I know you don’t really- I’m just a bland, rich crewmate, and I know that… I was raised that way- but I never took a fancy to the rich or attractive beans my parents offered to me because they had no personality. But— on this trip, I met you, and you’re… different. You have to fight for things I don’t- I commemorate you, Greenie…”
Green’s face flushed, their visor widening in surprise.
“Wow, White… I had no idea you could like someone like me-“
White took Green’s hands in their own.
“You are worth liking, Green… so I was thinking, that maybe- uhm- You and I could… work on my personality together..? Maybe… if you wanted-“
“Haha- yeah. Yeah… we could do that.”
They were both holding back something incredibly important from the other. White was the first to speak up.
“Green, I… um, well… listen… Since we uhm, y’know, knew each other on the ship for a while, and… that had already happened…”
White was extremely fidgety and weak in their legs.
“Would you.. maybe want to… be my partner?”
White looked away, squeezing their eyes shut tight, dreading and awaiting a response at the same time. They put both of their thumbs on Green’s hand, pressing them down just a bit.
Green looked at White in excitement.
“Really?! You’d- You’d want to be with me for real? You’re not joking, right? Haa- I mean, that would be a pretty bad joke-“
“Is… that a yes?”
“I wouldn’t say no, White. Not ever!”
White let out the air they didn’t know they were holding in.
“Phew… That’s great!”
White gave Green a quick hug before gesturing for them to walk out of the door.
While they were walking, Green spoke up.
“I have a question, White…”
“Hm? What is it, Greenie?”
“Did you really mean everything you said last night-?”
“Uhh… Yes. I did mean that, yes…”
“So, you really think I’m courageous and intelligent..?”
White’s face blushed. “I said everything-“
“And pretty?”
“D- uhmm… W-well, you’re… um- physically sufficient compared to the rest of the crewmates…”
Green grabbed White’s hand, locking their fingers together and swinging their arms.
“I must say, you are really strong, Greenie.”
“Strong? Me? Nooo..”
“You carried me from Medbay to my room without breaking a sweat! That seems pretty strong to me…”
“Oh- well I… didn’t know that was irregular. I worked on the farm my entire life, I guess I could’ve gained some muscle..”
Green gestured a bicep curl with their other arm.
“Probably all that wet bedding… compost n’ stuff… Enough about me, though… Why do you drink so much wine?”
“Oh, I’unnoo, I don’t… really do anything else. I need new hobbies, huh?”
White elbowed Green, chuckling.
“But… I mean, I guess I could find something to do. There has to be something on this ship, right?”
“Well, you were just invited here, right? You don’t work here?”
“Yep. Why?”
“Maybe you could stay with me while I do tasks… It would be much easier by your side, White! What do you think?”
“That sounds nice, i’d like that, Greenie.”
There was a small pause before White spoke up again.
“Are we… gonna keep this a secret?”
“We have no choice… They aren’t allowing colleague- I mean, relationships, on the ship…” Green scratched the back of their head. “Sorry, White…”
“Ugh… that snob Orange… always ruining EVERYTHING! I just want a good vacation, and now I’m always signing paperwork and I can’t do ANYTHING anymore-“
“White, it’s okay…”
“It’s not!” White paused, let out a sigh, and looked at Green. “…I just want to be- do everything with you in peace…”
Green also let out a sigh, getting closer to White and intertwining their arms together. White took a deep breath in, relishing in Green’s presence.
